olivia rodrigo's new album sounds like watching a romcom teen coming-of-age movie from the 90s idk how she does it

the show is enjoyable at face value but i feel like kdrama plots with school bullying (a very real extreme problem in south korea) that showcase an attempt to make a change and fight against school violence often goes for the fantasy of "beating your bully" and taking revenge successfully but it just stops there. a fantasy. the viewers will feel satisfaction through that drama and nothing much is really done about the real world. i think the public would move if a drama has a plot where the bully gets away with it and lives their life forgetting the violence they caused while the victim suffers, because that's the reality of that premise. there's no satisfaction, no revenge, all cases where a victim exposes their bully in korea gets sweep under the rug and nothing is done about it. i know this isn't a documentary but that's just my 2 cents about why koreans are tired of bully dramas and find this specific show controversial among other things.

if i was koyun i'd be super pissed that everyone wants to push a romantic narrative on her and yota after she finally made a good platonic relationship with a guy after all the shipping mess that created her trauma in middle school

why does minato think people owe him a space in their hearts just because he's nice to them... people can just not vibe with you and that's fine but he's acting like koyun owes him the same treatment she gives to yota and miki. i do like that he's aware that he's being arrogant tho

Minato is such an interesting character. Without him in the equation, this series runs like your typical shojo romance with the charming boy Yota melting Koyuki's frozen heart but he's there, in the equal position as Koyuki as the main lead. In contrast to Yota and Koyuki's wholesome friendship, you have Miki who knows what Minato is like and is every much cautious of what he does around her best friend. It's so great. I love when authors aren't afraid to make their main characters unlikable with a purpose of depth and development, like he will annoy the audience but you can't help but wait to see what his whole deal is

no followup about sokka and suki, the most stable ongoing relationship in the series at the time. toph's relationships with 2 baby daddies is never addressed. no confirmation on who zuko married and had izumi with. but somehow the couple whose entire dynamic is "she scolds him like a mother and he doesn't listen, her entire purpose is to be his emotional support surrogate mother" stayed together all these years because of "the protagonist gets the girl" rule in male-written fiction. the fact that the supporting characters has no established relationships outside of gaang is sooooo....
