I took inspiration from the many Slovenian fairytales about the so called "water man", been thinking about this for awhile in the Valvert context, but I kinda forgot.

Most of the Fairytales involve the water man either kidnapping children/ asking women to mary him because he's lonely. He's also very rich in every one of them, but usually the stories end with him letting the People go (or something dying if he also killed people? Idk there's a few ones)

So emmm Valjean is lonely around the time Javert... Makes contact with water so emmm, what if Valjean saved him because the house of Rue Plumet is actually underwater (also great hiding spot).

Also humans in these stories tend to not have any issues breathing underwater? So it makes sense how Cosette could live with him there and how he can then live with Javert there. (Water man can also go on land disgusted as a human, usually depicted wearing a green fancy suit, which to me is a Valjean colour).

Interpret this however you wish, I am not doing great and this is unfortunately the result of me only wanting to cry myself to sleep and do nothing else.
