Randal Keith (Broadway's Jean Valjean for over 3k performances) as Javert at the Tuacahn Amphitheatre. He is so guard dog to me!! This entire production was biblically accurate. The chaotic look in his eyes and the snarl. He's perfect?!
Cat AU where cat!Javert is chasing cat!Valjean through a cat tree and ends up making a bad jump, falling, and eating shit in a water bowl. And yes, this is at 3:00 in the morning and yes, the noise causes a chain reaction that scares every other cat in the house.

On Javert being possibly Roma, why do you think he sides so hard with the law?
So it's just ambigous enough that his race is implied rather than stated but I do interpret him as Romani or mixed-Romani based on the language Hugo uses to describe him. You also have to keep in mind that this is a French novel from the 1800s and bohémien was a common way to refer to the Romani people at the time. It also makes sense that it's because of Javert's internalized racism that he is so fanatical about crime and criminals. It's outright stated that Javert hates the race that spawned him. It's also the character's biggest tragedy because given his background and the way he sees Romani people or the race of "bohémiens" treated he is only capable of seeing himself in the context of prison bars and which side of them he is on.
If he does not enforce the law himself he will fall victim to it. I feel like that ideation makes the most sense for a character that has never seen anyone of his own race in a context where they weren't criminalized. His father was galley slave doing forced prison labor on ships and his mother was a bohemian fortune teller ("bohemian" and "fortune-teller" both being common short hand for Romani and Romani coded characters in classic literature). Javert was, quite literally, born inside of a jail while his mother was incarcerated. It doesn't surprise me that he feels some intense need to distance himself from his roots and prove to himself and everyone else that he is "one of the good ones" or "not like the rest." Despite his simplistic black and white view of the world he is a complex character and the fact that he doesn't survive having his worldview shattered says a lot about how desperately he needed that worldview to be right. How much he needed to feel that he had broken free of some kind of mold and in doing so he became an enforcer of the system that created that mold in the first place. The idea that Valjean isn't a criminal because he's evil means that the words "criminal" and "law" have no meaning. Javert cannot handle a world that operates in shades of grey because he has never allowed himself to exist in a world that didn't revolve around cages and being the one in them or the one who puts others in them. The idea that a person can break the law and not deserve punishment is beyond his comprehension. This is also just head canon but also don't doubt that in his upbringing and his parents background he was mostly raised in institutions which probably inflicted more than a little trauma onto his psyche. We're looking at a character that only knows two sides of the law and he was already on the wrong side of it before he was even born. He's had to spend his entire life proving he's not one kind of villain only to find out in the end that he has become an entirely different kind.
Seeing as they both suffer from a severe lack of whimsy, this party will probably be... interesting.
