The illusion of waking up

I often dream through my alarm that I wake up and start the day. Get breakfast, brush my teeth, maybe send an email or two.

“Where I come from,” he says, “the Father of Lies is our favourite god. Every year there is a festival devoted to him. Everyone tells all the lies they can and their lies become more and more beautiful. At the end of the festival, the man who has told the most beautiful lies gets a gift.”

“What does he get?”

“His lies become true.”

Last year I finally had an excuse to illustrate this simple little Tumblr story by @bees-with-swords I've had bookmarked forever for class.

I’ve been playing around with bringing my digital and traditional styles closer together though, and that’s been a fun process. If you enjoy the watercolour texture one of the best things you can do is play around with putting a bunch of watercolour down on a page and scanning it!! It works well as backgrounds, borders, overlays, etc.

Last year I finally had an excuse to illustrate a couple little Tumblr stories for class. This one's by @appropriate-as-always
