Midnights aesthetic: Maroon
the mark you saw on my collarbone the rust that grew between telephones The lips I used to call home so scarlet, it was maroon
wild how people refer to tmi as the incest books when the entire thing was a master plan created by their evil supremasist father to make his children feel like theyâre monsters in order to maniplate them into thinking they donât deserve to he happy (âto love is to destroyâ) and should totally stay with him instead and caused everyone involved suffering and pain like babe. i dont think the narrative wants you to like it
Choso vs internet
I just want to know what happened between the Merry Thieves Generation to the Circle's generation to make them the way that they are. Like, how did these families go from being so respectful and kind to downworlders to their direct descendants forming a downworlder hate group that almost destroyed the Shadowhunting world. Like, was the Circle's generation just on something or was this a horrible, gradual shift that made these families unrecognizable to what they once were?
The reblogs and replies have SO MANY great analyses, and I just wanted to come and add my own because I love spending my time analyzing the world of the Shadowhuntes teehee.
I think the best way to think about it is by looking at contemporary politics, and how a lot of politicians use fear mongering and convincing people that different=bad to get people on their sides. Valentine, an extremely manipulative, charismatic, and political man, convinced the Circle that Downworlders were different than Shadowhunters, and force-fed them anti-Downworlder rhetoric (and punished those who opposed him by framing Downworlders) that convinced Shadowhunters to hate them. I think that Valentine convinced them to fear Downworlders, overlaid it with so much hatred, and proposed such idealistic policies on how to change the Clave through the medium of Shadowhunter self-righteousness that got the whole Circle hooked. Everyone thought that they were doing the best thing for Shadowhunter society.
Valentine used his confidence and magnetism to manipulate incredibly young and impressionable Shadowhunters. They gravitated towards that sort of leadership because they were upset about the world and wanted change, which Valentine offered, even if they only realized too late how evil it was.
I think it's also cool to point out that The Era of the Circle took place right around the presidency of Ronald Reagan, where the U.S. but also the entire World's political sphere changed completely. I don't know if it was an intentional act by Cassie or not, but if it was, then Cassie defamiliarized that era's politics perfectly.

my toxic trait is i cant accept the roll over and die mentality even when someone tells me theres nothing u can do im always like arson is an option forever btw
female protagonists will literally go through 30 life altering traumas at the age of 16 and you ppl still have the audacity to call them annoying bc they cry about it and act like teenage girls
people treat clary like this.
This is so sweet
Jace'a eyebrows went up. "Is that a copy of the Gray book?"
[...]
"It's not gray," Clary felt compelled to point out. "It's green."
"If there was such a thing as terminal literalism, you'd have died in childhood."

Those sickos may have kissed while thinking they were siblings
Those sickos may share the same f-ing toothbrush
But those sickos saved the damn world
(and more than once basically??)
And you know what? I DIDN'T FUCKING CAREEEEEE
PERIODDDD
I wish that the entirety of TSC by Cassandra Clare was more popular and well known. Donât get me wrong, I know that it is an incredibly successful franchise and she has been hugely successful from them, but I hardly know anyone in my real life who loves those books like I do, or even know about them. Those who do know about the books only know it as âoh isnât that that one series with the incest plot line?â and every time I hear that I want to SCREAAAAAAM because itâs SO much more than that and its so much more nuanced than that. sure it may be weird at times but I wish people could just see past surface level hate for it and give it a chance. These books are so lovely and well written, I just wish it got the same level of love as other series like ACOTAR or something. A series that also has weird ass moments sometimes but can still be well beloved.
some people have requested I post the âoffering of moonlightâ of Jemâs perspective on his first kiss with Tessa and here is it

As part of my Master's degree in Publishing at the University of Strasbourg, I'm writing my masterâs thesis on the success of Cassandra Clar
Hello everyone ! I study a Master degree in publishing, and I'm writing my masterâs thesis on the success of Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments saga. Here is a link to a questionnaire that I created. Its purpose is to assess the real impact of the books and the extent of their success on several points. I would like to thank in advance all those who will take the time to answer this survey in its entirety. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions about my work. Have a nice day !!
thinking about when Mark encounters Simon in Faerie & tells him all about his siblings, and how he says that Julian will not be able to help Helen, that he will try but he's too young. of course the obvious tragedy of this is the reality: Julian has been caring for their siblings essentially alone and Helen is not there at all but there's another level to it too.
because Julian's 14 when this happens. yes Mark is unaware of how much time has passed since he was taken, but he's not completely oblivious to the abstract of it. right before this he's talking about how Tavvy won't remember their parents and him, how Dru might not either, and he's saying all this to someone who shouldn't have changed but did anyway. the significance of this is when Mark was 14, that was when Eleanor died and Andrew checked out. a 16 year old Helen would become the primary caregiver for Tavvy but what about their other four younger siblings? who was looking after them? (Mark. the answer is Mark)
and I imagine it started well before Eleanor died, because before that she was sick. before that pregnant. parents of 6 who are also in charge of running a major Institute. when Helen was ten and just starting her training, Dru was just born. caring for newborns is crazy without having five older children (2. 2. 4. 8. 10) who do you think took on the responsibility of watching the others when everyone else was to be busy?
Mark says Julian will not be able to Helen because he is too young, but how old was Mark? even at 12, Julian is older than he probably was. does Mark see that he too was too young?
combined this with how Mark legitimately considers rejoining the hunt despite wanting nothing more than to be with his siblings. because before, his relationship with all his younger siblings was founded on looking after & caring for them - something he cannot do anymore. without that what place is there for him? yeah it makes me a little be crazy.
