Part 18 - The Walls of Ivy

My heavy, tear-stained eyelids fluttered open as my head pounded heavily against my skull. I closed my eyes, desperate for a couple more minutes of peaceful void, knowing that a few minutes would turn into a few hours. I heaved my head and groggily rolled out of bed. Putting on a fresh set of clothes and lathering deodorant on, I trudged towards the wooden building where I spent all my waking hours.

Twisting the doorknob, I was met with the sight of my two best friends.

'Morning.' I said still half asleep

'Morning.' replied Frypan and Ace in sync

'What's on the menu today?' I queried Frypan

'Pancakes. I hope it puts everyone in a slightly better mood after yesterday.'

There it was. The thing that I desperately pushed out of my mind all last night, had now reemerged. I know that it was silly, but I am just not ready to come to terms with Ben's death. The whole thing still shook me. The pleas. The walls closing. The scream. I shook my head, in a desperate attempt to stop thinking. 

My legs moved towards the kitchen counter as my hands worked on helping Frypan with the batter. Frypan and I were working as Ace watched the pancakes in the oven.

'Why did Alby go into the Maze?' asked Ace out of the blue

'Huh?' replied Fry

'This morning, I saw Minho and Alby go into the Maze. Why? Alby isn't a Runner, is he?' 

'Alby and Minho went to trace Ben's footsteps before sundown. They are trying to figure out how he got stung in broad daylight.'

'They are going to where Ben was just stung? Isn't that just suicide?'

'Alby knows what he is doing, alright?'

'Alright' he said clearly irritated

We got back to cooking, tension still thick in the air but slowly releasing. The rest of the day went by slowly, as if a sloth was in charge of it, until it started pouring. We moved to a little wooden shelter in the centre of the Glade. All fifty of us were there, in small groups. I looked around and my gaze set on Thomas and Newt who were both looking towards the Maze when I noticed something. Alby and Minho weren't back yet.

Once the rain ceased, Ace and I rushed towards the opening in the walls with Frypan, Thomas and Newt on our heels. Soon a swarm of teenagers had formed with the five of us at the front, waiting for any sign of life. 

'Can't we send anyone after them?' questioned Ace

'Either they make it back or they don't.' rebutted Gally calmly

'Can't risk losing anyone else.' added Newt

The Maze let out a deep roar as the doors started closing. The air felt tight and shallow around me as the Gladers stared spiralling into chaos at our lost friends. Thomas pointed out towards the maze, where we saw little figures in the distance. It was Alby and Minho

'Wait. There is something wrong.' said Newt. Minho was carrying an unconscious Alby on his back as he was swaying side to side at the heavy weight. The Gladers erupting into a sea of 'Come on' and 'You can do it'. 

The doors inching even more closely together, my mind went blank as the noise of the Gladers went deaf. I knew that wouldn't make it but why is no one even trying to help them. Encouraging them wouldn't get them out of the Maze. I made eye contact with Ace, and we made a silent agreement. My mind was spinning, knowing I had only one option. We couldn't lose more people. With the doors a couple feet apart, I looked back at Ace, and I nodded securing our plan. 

We ran into the Maze, our feet carrying us through the tight, closing walls of ivy. The Maze doors closed locking us in with inevitable death.

Part 17 - Denial to Acceptance

We were all gathered at the East Door awaiting Ben's arrival. The Keepers, who were holding sticks in a semicircle, made a small opening for Ben and Minho, as they made their way to the centre of the crowd. Ben, with his hand tied behind his head, quietly pleaded with Minho. As they situated in the centre, Minho brought Ben to his knees and cut the rope allowing Ben's hands free. Ben, on his hands and knees, let out some shaking breathes and cries, as I watched the horrific scene unfold in front of my eyes. 

I was on the outside of the crowd, next to Ace who looked as horrified as me. Minho, who somehow still held his composure, tossed a bag of Ben's things into the open doors. The Maze doors started closing as Alby yelled out "Poles!"

The keepers lowered their sticks pointing them at Ben, trapping him. He scrambled to his two feet, trying to fight his way through the defences, while letting out a string of cries and pleas. He pushed against the poles trying to escape between small gaps formed between the wall of keepers. They kept moving in, until Ben had no choice, except to go past the doors, into the terrifying Maze. Bens screams were cut off the closing of the East Doors, securing him inside. 

I looked around at the broken mess of Gladers. My heart shattered into a thousand tiny pieces. It is not like I was close with Ben, but the feeling of someone you know, dying a horrible death. That sticks with you. The guilt of indirectly killing someone. That sticks with you. The screams of a dying person. That sticks with you. I look around at the crowd of Gladers again. We had all crossed a path from denial into acceptance.

Slowly, the Gladers departed, leaving the grieving scene, until the last ones left were Minho, Alby and Newt. Ace, Frypan and I all left together to go to the kitchen, to prepare dinner. None of us dared to say a word all throughout dinner, grief thick in the air. Ace and I were sitting at the table, eating our food which seemed to lose all its flavour, while Frypan was serving plates. The silence was deafening. After a while, Fry came to sit with us, joining the silence. 

I couldn't help but think of Ben. Is he already dead or is he seconds away from dying? Has he seen a griever yet or did he kill himself due to his injuries. An inhumane blood curdling scream pierced the dark. My eyes instinctively looked towards the Maze knowing it came from Ben. I made eye contact with Aces dilated eyes, across the table. Frypan took note of this interaction, questioning us with his eyes.

"Heard ben scream." I replied coldly, unable to confront the emotions. Once we finished dinner, we all departed to our hut, knowing fully well no one was going to do much sleeping that night. I arrived at my isolated hut and flopped onto my bed, unable to deal with the grief on my pushing down on the shoulders. I kept replaying Ben's last hours in my head. Him attacking Thomas. Him going to the pit. His pleas and cries. Him trying to escape. His scream. That scream that I know would haunt me for the rest of my life. The true pain and terror it held, knowing that I just heard his last seconds. Ben was gone.

Part 16 - Like Some Movie Planning

~Your POV~

I woke up surrounded by some figures. My eyes blurry so I couldn't make them out, but once they cleared, I saw Ace and Frypan on either sides of me.

'Thank God! You are awake!' screamed Frypan, giving a huge bear hug. Last night's events came rushing to me. The fight, the claws, the passing out. Everything. I looked over at Ace, knowing he was feeling horrible and I gave him a hug too, reassuring him that I didn't blame him. 

'I am so sorry Y/n.' Ace said, sadness laced in his voice

'It is ok, but next time I won't even hesitate to kick your ass.' We all laughed at that comment.

My hands found my neck as I searched for any claw marks, any remains of last night, but I came up empty-handed. They had already healed.

'So, what happened after I collapsed?' I questioned

Ace started 'Well after you collapsed, I brought you to the kitchen where Frypan and Newt were-'

'What Newt saw? What did he say? What did you guys say?'

'Calm down, we didn't say anything. We told him that you two were racing and you fell and scraped your neck on some sharp rocks. Of course, he didn't believe it for a shucking second, but it was better than nothing.' continued Frypan

'Frypan, Newt and I all brought you here, where we just cleaned your wounds. After we convinced Newt to leave and we finished cleaning all the blood, we saw that the marks had already healed, but we thought it would be best to let you rest and recover. When Jeff and Clint came in this morning, we told them that you had been throwing up all night so we thought it would be best for you to stay the night here.' finished Ace

'Wow, that is like a whole shucking movie planning there. That was pretty smart.' I praised

'Thank you. Do you think you can stand up?' asked Frypan

I slid to the edge of the bed and planted my feet on the ground. I stood up, feeling a bit uneasy but able to stand.

'Ok good. You are going to work the whole day in the kitchen with me, ok?' Frypan told me. I nodded as we made our way to the kitchen. Breakfast and lunch had already been served, so we waited for dinner to roll round. 

It was about 2 pm when we heard screaming coming from outside. We all rushed to the door, trying to catch where the noise was coming from. Our eyes landed on the scene. Thomas was sprinting out of the Deadheads, closes followed by. Ben?

'HELP!' screamed Thomas

We all darted to Thomas, knowing that Ben could easily overpower him. Ben tackled Thomas to the floor and started shouting in his face. All of a sudden, Newt swinged a hoe over his head, getting Ben in the temple, knocking him to the floor. Everyone swarmed Ben like bees as Newt, Gally and Frypan held him down.

Someone asked Thomas what happened.

'He just attacked me.'

Ben looked so distressed on the floor as Alby entered the circle of fifty teenagers. We all collectively held our breath as Alby order someone to lift ben's shirt. As the shirt rose, it revealed a purple circle on the right side of his stomach, with purple and blue veins spreading all over his lower stomach and chest and his stomach rising and falling in an uneven rhythm.

'He has been stung. In the middle of the day?' asked Gally as we all were shaken. Ben was pleading with Alby, knowing there was no hope in doing so.

'Put him in the pit. Come on everyone! Put him in the pit.' demanded Alby as Ben tried to tear away from the forceful restraints of Newt, Gally and Fry. He started screaming at all of us trying to persuade us. Held my head low, knowing that this was Ben's last hours in the Glade.

Part 15 - Bloodthirsty

~Newt POV~

I was at dinner with Thomas, Minho and Chuck, looking at the empty spot next to Chuck that used to be occupied. The three of them were chatting, while I was thinking to myself. I don't know what happened, but even since that night a couple of weeks ago, she has been ignoring us. I don't know if I did anything or if something happened. I am really worried about her. 

'Have any of you guys talked to Y/n recently?' I asked the group once it was quiet. They all shook their heads in response

'The only people who have talked to her recently are Frypan and the Greenie, Ace.' replied Chuck

'Why is she talking to Ace but not us?' I questioned

'You jealous Newt?' Minho snickered

'I am not jealous, I am worried. It is not like her to completely ignore us.'

'Maybe you shank should go talk to her, then tell us.' suggested Thomas

'No, she is avoiding us for a reason. I just need to know what that reason is.'

We left the subject as the three of them kept talking about something else. I waited awhile until I saw Ace and Y/n walking out of the kitchen, going in the direction of the Deadheads.

This is my opportunity. 

I waited for a couple of minutes before leaving the table as I felt the groups gaze on me. I knocked on the wooden door of the kitchen, letting Frypan know I was there.

'Hi Newt. How are you?'

'Hey Frypan. Good, how about you?'

'Yeah, good thanks.'

'Is Y/n okay? Do you know why she has been avoiding us?'

'Y/n is fine.'

'That is a lie. We both know it is.' I countered. Frypan put the sponge down to face me. A serious look the covered my face was mimicked on his.

'Newt, as much as I am dying to tell you, I can't, I am sorry.'

'You can tell me; you are just choosing not to.'

~Your POV~

Ace and I were walking towards the deadheads. After we finished dinner, Frypan told us to go to the Deadheads and teach Ace everything he needs to know about control his powers, while he cleans up dinner. Once we got to the deep part of the Deadheads. We started talking about how to control his powers. 

'I need you to get angry. This way you can learn to control your powers.'

'I will turn into a bloodthirsty animal. What if I lose control and can't bring myself back.'

'Then I will bring you back.' I said, while producing fire in my hand, showing him. He stared at my hand in awe, shocked by my abilities. Honestly, I was uncertain myself if I had the strength to bring him back, but I had to convince him even if it meant myself not being convinced.

'Come on, get angry.' I said

'I can't.'

'Think about the fact that you are stuck in the middle of deadly maze with almost a certainty of death. Think about the people that put you in here. The people who separated you from your family.' I said, his eyes turned a violent shade of yellow as fangs and claws emerged. 

Ace darted to me and jumped on me. We both fell back, as he started attacking me. 

'CONTROL YOURSELF!' I reminded him as I fought him off me. He didn't stop attacking as he roared at me, clawing at my neck, leaving a trail of crimson red.

'ACE, LISTEN TO ME! CONTROL YOURSELF! FIND SOMETHING!' I yelled as wrapped his hands around my neck, choking me while pressing his claws into my skin. I felt his claws piercing the layer of skin, as I screamed in pain. I grabbed his arms, prying them off my skin, not without going in for a punch in the eye. I felt his knuckles had contact with my eyeball as blood started dripping down from the surrounding bone area and my nose. I had no choice but to fight back if I wanted to see tomorrow. 

I felt my eyes turning orange as fire erupted from all over my body forcing Ace of my body from the heat. That didn't stop him from trying to attack me again. This time I was prepared as I erupted into a human fireball, scaring Ace off. Making him return into his human form. He looked at me in horror as he saw the blood running down from my nose, eye and mouth. His eyes finally landed on my neck which was painted in red with deep scratches and handprints coating it. The world started feeling dizzy as I fell, darkness consuming me.

~Ace POV~

I was ashamed of myself as I rushed to Y/n as she collapsed. I knew that I was the reason she was so hurt like this, but I had no choice than to bring her to Frypan. I picked her up as her white t-short became a puddle of blood, seeping in from her neck. I ran into the kitchen careful of her injuries. I arrived to be met with not only Frypan but Newt too, luckily, he was facing the opposite way. I made eye contact with Frypan as he registered what was lying motionless in my arms. He quickly sprinted to me, grabbing her out of arms, resting her on the table. Newt looked around quickly as his gaze rested on the bloodied, unconscious girl, who I might have killed.

Part 14- Hounds and Wolves

'Here, come with me. I think I know what you are.' I said as I got up and held out both my hands to help Ace up. He took both of them and followed me to my hut. When we got there, I crouched down and got the book from under my bed. Sitting down on my bed, gesturing for Ace to do the same, which he did, I started explaining the bestiary.

'Welcome to the bestiary. This is the book I was talking about. It basically has every single supernatural creature and their origin, strengths, weaknesses etcetera.' I started flipping through the book until I found the page I was looking for.

'I think... you are a werewolf.' I told him as I showed him the page. He picked up the book out of my hands, sat it on his lap and started reading.

Werewolves are supernatural shapeshifters, who are pack animals. There are two ranks of werewolves: alphas and betas. In a pack there is an alpha, who is the leader of the pack, with usually at least three betas. These betas don't have to be werewolves though, as they can be another supernatural creature or even human. Werewolves draw their power from their pack.

There is two ways of becoming a werewolf; being born one or being turned by an alpha or beta either through a bite or scratch.

Alphas are the strongest out of the ranks and are the leaders of their pack. They have red eyes along with being more powerful compared to betas. Alpha werewolves have distinguishable red eyes making them seem more dangerous. There are many ways for a werewolf to gain the rank of alpha; by inheritance, killing and stealing another alpha's power or, in rare instances, becoming one through the sheer force of will.

Beta werewolves are one rank lower than alphas, usually being lead by the them. Betas have the same supernatural abilities and physical appearance of other werewolves, but a beta's eyes can be two colours: either blue or gold. Betas with blue eyes are said to have ended the life of an innocent, while betas with gold eyes have not.

In human form, werewolves appear normal with all their supernatural creatures hidden. In werewolf form, they have fangs, claws and glowing eyes (either red, yellow or gold). However, once a werewolf is experienced enough, they can transform into a real wolf.

Since a werewolf gains their power from the moon, when a full moon occurs, they are at their strongest but also most dangerous. During this time, they are more likely to act on their animal instincts leading more likely to hurt someone and lose control.

POWERS AND ABILTIES:

Super Strength:

This is a common power among the supernatural world. This power allows werewolves to easily overpower other humans and some other supernatural creatures. However maximum strength depends on the individual.

Super Speed, Agility and Reflexes:

Werewolves, like other supernatural creatures, can run extremely fast and are very agile. however, maximum speed, agility and reflexes depends on the individual.

Super Senses:

Werewolf's enhanced senses allow them to hear, smell and see things that a normal human can't. When they are in werewolf form, they can see in the dark. 

Super Durability:

A werewolf's body is extremely durable, allowing them to endure impact with little to no injury.

Shapeshifting:

Werewolf's can transform their human body into werewolf form. This includes their glowing eyes, fangs, claws and sometimes pointed ears.

Accelerated Healing:

Werewolves have the ability to recover from mild to moderate injuries very quickly. However, when their body comes in contact with wolfsbane, mistletoe or hellfire, it becomes almost impossible to heal, making them easier to kill.

Pain Absorption:

Werewolves have the ability to absorb pain from others, including animals, humans or other supernatural creatures. It is usually done through touching the person in pain and drawing the pain into themselves, which makes the werewolves veins turn a blackish colour in the process.

WEAKNESSES:

Wolfsbane:

Wolfsbane is a toxic herb for werewolves. It has the ability to not only stop healing but also kill a werewolf if they come in contact with it. Wolfsbane can cause werewolves to have difficulty breathing, weakening of powers, vomiting and hallucinations. The only way to get rid of wolfsbane within a werewolf's blood stream is to burn it out.

Full Moon:

Although full moons don't harm the werewolf itself, it can injure the people around them. Full moons make werewolves feral and bloodthirsty making other humans and animals a threat.

Intense Emotions:

Similarly to the full moon, intense emotions can lead to the werewolf losing control and possibly hurting others.

Mountain Ash:

Mountain ash is used as effective barriers against most supernaturals. If something is surrounded by mountain ash, then the werewolf cannot enter the thing or get out. It is very useful for people who aren't affect by mountain ash (druids, banshees, hellhounds etc) to protect themselves of others.

Overall, werewolves are dangerous supernatural creatures who can lose control quickly.

I could see on his face, that he was still processing what he had just read. After a couple of minutes he finally spoke.

'So, I am a werewolf? What colour are my eyes?'

'They are yellowish gold colour' I answered trying to comfort him

'So, I am a beta, but I haven't killed anyone'

'You haven't killed an innocent person'

'So, I need to find a pack in order to gain power? How do I control myself on a full moon? How do I actually do my powers?'

'I am honestly not sure, but I know someone who will know.'

I picked myself off the bed, Ace following me as we made our way to the kitchen. Inside contained Frypan leaning against one of the counters looking at the oven.

'Hey Fry' I said, happy to see my best friend

'Hi Y/n. You brought the Greenie ay' He replied

'Yeah. What are you making?'

'Some chicken with vegetables. Do you remember your name yet Greenie?'

'Yeah, my name is Ace' Ace responded

'That has a nice ring to it' 

'Thank you.'

'I'm Frypan. Nice to meet you, Ace.'

'Nice to meet you too.' There was a moment of comforting silence before I decided to tell Frypan about today's events.

'Fry...' I started

He looked at me wearily, scared for what I was going to say.

'Yeah?'

I looked at Ace, gesturing to show Frypan what we found out. After a quick moment, Ace's eyes glowed and Frypan looked shocked.

'You're a werewolf?'

Ace nodded his head. 'I actually have a couple questions and Y/n said that you could answer. First is how do I control my powers on a full moon? How do I actually do my powers? and now that I think of it what is hellfire?' Frypan took a place at the table that we were sitting at and started talking.

'To control your powers on a full moon, you will need to find what works for you. I know that pain is a way that werewolves stay in human form but there are other ways, you will need to find yours. To do your powers, I guess it will come naturally, like how you glow your eyes. Finally, hellfire is the fire that hellhounds produce'

Ace looked at me. 'Better not burn me Y/n.' Ace joked. I laughed in response.

'Can't promise anything.'

The oven timer went off causing all of us to jump. Frypan got up and rang the bell for dinner. He started serving people as Ace and I waited for his return. After he finished, Frypan brought all our dinners over to the table and we started eating.

'Why are we eating here?' asked Ace

'Because Y/n over here, refuses to go near the other Gladers even Newt, because she is scared that she will hurt them.' Frypan said

'That is fair. I see where you are coming from' Ace responded

'Thank you.' I replied, happy that someone finally agrees with my decision

Frypan shot me an annoy look which I smirked in response to.

'Is newt that blonde guy that you kept looking at when we were at the box?' Ace questioned

'Yes' Frypan said shooting me an amused look as revenge

'So... you like him?'

'No' I said, trying to sound confident

'Bullshit' Frypan said, trying to disguise it as a cough.

I threw one of my carrots at Frypan, hitting him in the shoulder.

'Hey! That carrot is going to go to waste.'

'Boo-hoo' I said laughing. The three of us spent the rest of dinner talking and laughing and for the first time in a while, I felt truly happy.

Part 13 - Shared Secrets

It has been two weeks since I started reading the bestiary and completed it three days ago. I spent any time I had spare time reading it, learning it. In terms of my supernatural abilities, I have made some progress. I can glow my eyes, get fangs and claws and able to produce fire with my hand. Whenever my hands are on fire, it feels weird, like it is supposed to hurt, yet it doesn't

The Glade was buzzing with chatter this morning, everyone eager for the new Greenies arrival. I was hanging out with Frypan in the kitchen, washing the dishes after breakfast. The alarm went off, as if it was like clockwork, everyone dropped what they were doing and ran to the box. I followed too along with Frypan. We both got to the front waiting for the box to arrive. After two minutes of metal clacking, the box finally opened its roof, leaving us to greet the newest arrival. Gally and another builder opened the box's wired doors and Gally jumped down to greet the Greenie. I couldn't see due to the Greenie being in the corner. Gally helped him out and they were both next to me now. He stood up and I finally got a good look at him. He is quite tall with wavy short brown hair, brown eyes and a sharp jawline, honestly quite attractive.

As the Greenie examined in the surrounding area, his fists clenched in distress. He turned around and his eyes landed on me. Despite not knowing him, I felt a connection with him. Like we had a shared secret. All of a sudden, his once-brown eyes glowed, a bright yellow hue. As if by instinct, my eyes flared in response. After a moment his eyes died down, mine following soon after. 

'Welcome to the Glade, Greenie. My name's Alby.' said the dark-skin boy startling me in the process

When did he get there?

'Where am I? Who are you people?' asked the boy with a surprising calm tone

'Would you mind showing the Greenie around? You deserve the day off; you have been working too much.' Alby turned to me and whispered, ignoring the Greenies question. I nodded my head in response.

'Come on Greenie. I will show you around.' I told the taller boy. As the Gladers dispersed, returning to their jobs, it turned the Greenie. 

'I'm Y/n. Do you know your name yet? Remember anything?' I questioned in a curious tone

'My name is Ace. Other than that, I don't remember anything' he replied

I was shocked. Usually the 'do you know your name?' question is for people to acknowledge their lack of memory. I thought everyone remembered their name after a couple of hours or days, not minutes.

'Ace? Ace. That has a nice ring to it.' I said, trying to lighten the mood

'Why, thank you very much' he said in a ridiculous accent, joking in response. Beside the whole glowing eyes saga before, I could tell we were going to be good friends. 

'Ok well, time to show you around.' I showed Ace around the Glade, the same way Alby showed me. I showed him all the important place and people. I mentioned the three rules and told him about the maze. By the end, we were both exhausted, so we sat down, back leaning up against a log on the edge of the central part of the Glade. We kept talking about random klunk, reminding of my first day with Chuck, when we did the exact same thing. 

'So before, after I got out of the box, both of our eyes glowed. Now, I don't think that is something normal people do, so what are we?' questioned Ace, I could tell this question had been in his mind all day

'Honestly, I'm still figuring it out myself. Basically, I'm a hellhound. I can produce fire and heat from my body and can sense where someone is going to die.'

'How did you find out what you were?'

'I had these dreams that were actually memories one night. In the memory, I was carrying a dead body, and I placed it down, then my body set on fire. I woke up with my eyes glowing a deep orange. I went back to sleep and told Fry about the dream and everything. He told me that I was a hellhound. He has this book; it is like an encyclopedia for supernatural creatures. He showed me the hellhound pages and I learnt about myself. Every day, I have been going to the forest and practising my supernatural abilities.'

'Does anyone else know?'

Part 12 - The Hellhound of the Glade

Frypan and I sat on the edge of his bed as he handed me the book. I put my uneaten lasagna to the side and started flipping through the pages. I made a mental note to make sure I read all the other supernatural creatures as it may be important. I kept on flipping until I reached a page with the title 'Hellhounds'. I took a deep breath, preparing myself to find out about myself and started reading.

Hellhounds, also known as the Black Dog, Bearer of Death or the Guardian of the Supernatural World is a supernatural shapeshifter. Hellhounds main duty is to protect the supernatural world by keeping it a secret from the human world and hunting and capturing supernatural threats.

Hellhounds are considered one of the most powerful supernatural creatures due to their incredible durability along with their powers and abilities. They are considered unstoppable and unkillable making them feared among the supernatural community.

There are only two known ways to become a hellhound, being born one, by inheriting the creature from at least one of your biological parents or being burnt with fire while having kanima venom in your blood stream.

In human form, hellhounds appear normal with all their supernatural features hidden. In hellhound form, they have flame-like, orange eyes along with fangs and claws. In this form, hellhounds have different skin textures. Their skin can look like normal human skin, black volcanic rock with lava veins or flame covered. The state that the skin is in depends on how far through the transformation the hellhound is.

POWERS AND ABILITIES:

Super Strength:

Even though that this power is possessed by majority of supernatural creatures, the hellhounds have greater strength then others, however maximum strength depends on the individual.

Super Speed, Agility and Reflexes:

Hellhounds are considered one of the swiftest supernatural creature although maximum speed depends on the individual. This power is also possessed by the majority of supernatural creatures.

Super Senses:

Hellhounds enhanced sense allow them to hear, smell and see things that a normal human can't. In hellhound form, are able to see in the dark.

Super Durability:

A hellhounds body is very durable, allowing them to endure impact with little to no injury. This makes hurting or killing a hellhound extremely difficult.

Shapeshifting:

Hellhounds can transform their human body into a hellhound form. This includes orange eyes along with retractable fangs and claws. Hellhounds can also transform their body so their skin appears to be volcanic rock with lava veins. They also can transform their body so it is completely absorbed by fire.

Accelerated healing:

Hellhounds are able to recover from mild to moderate injuries very quickly. This power is also possessed by majority of supernatural creatures

Pyrokinesis:

A hellhounds main ability is that they can produce very hot flames from their body. It can either be from the whole body or just one part. This power also allows hellhounds to create fireballs.

Thermokinesis:

Hellhounds have the ability to produce a lot of heat from their body which allows them to direct heat to other objects. This includes being able to bend metal by heating it up or radiating heat to melt guns metres away. Due to this power and pyrokinesis, hellhounds are immune to fire and hot temperatures

Supernatural Immunity:

Hellhounds are immune to various supernatural abilities making it hard for a supernatural creature to kill them. Some immunities include, electricity from kitsunes or eels, kanima venom will not paralyse them and they are immune to the banshee screams. These powers will not affect them in any way.

Death Sense:

Like banshees, hellhounds can sense death. Instead of sensing when the death is going to happen like banshees, hellhounds can sense where the death is going to occur in the days or hours leading up to the event.

WEAKNESSES:

Silver:

The hellhounds main weakness is silver. Unlike other supernatural beings, where it is a myth that they are susceptible to silver, hellhounds actually are, leading to silver being one of the leading causes of death among hellhounds.

Intense Emotions:

Although this weakness doesn't do any harm to the hellhound itself, it can harm the people surrounding them. Intense emotions such as grief, anger and sadness can lead to the transformation of a hellhound, leading to the hellhound to lose all control and likely killing everyone around them.

Overall, hellhounds are very dangerous supernatural creatures who are capable of anything.

I looked up at Frypan whose eyes were set on mine, waiting for a reaction.

'Is that why I started transforming into a hellhound this afternoon, intense emotions?' I questioned. Frypan nodded his eyes now drifted to my uneaten lasagna.

'Wait, so either my parents are hellhounds or I was burnt with kanima venom? What is a kanima? How am I meant to protect the supernatural world? How can I gain my abilities? Learn to use them? How can I control my abilities? How do I create fire? What is a banshee and why I am connected to it?' I asked, with questions filling my head

'Woah, calm down ok? Yes either your parents were hellhounds or you were burnt with kanima venom. A kanima is another supernatural creature who is basically a homicidal lizard. Their venom can paralyse people. To control your power you need to find an anchor, someone that can bring you back to reality. A banshee is again, a supernatural creature which is able to predict and sense death. Also their scream can kill people. You both are connected as both hellhounds and banshees are harbingers of death basically meaning you can sense death. As for the rest of the questions, I don't know, but I do know that you will figure it out. You are now the Hellhound of the Glade. Now it is getting late so go to sleep. You can keep the book.'

'Thank you Fry. Good night'

'Good night Y/n/n'

I grabbed my now cold lasagna and make my way back to my hut. The walk wasn't long but it was a peaceful way to clear my head. Once I arrived, I set the book on my bookshelf and fell on my bed, falling sleep instantly.

Part 11 - Bleeding Hands

I walked out of the kitchen getting looks from everyone surrounding me. They must have heard the screaming but hopefully not what I was saying. I kept my eyes on the ground, mouth shut, and fists balled up to prevent revealing my supernatural side. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Newt running up to me, probably curious, like the others, about what happened.

'What is wrong Y/n/n?' he said calmly, but I just pushed past him, too angry and concerned about losing control. I walked in the direction of the hut, deep in the deadheads, where no one could hear me. I got to my hut and started punching a tree around it, screaming with so much anger, not towards Frypan, but more myself. I was angry about being a hellhound, angry that I couldn't control it, angry that I got angry with Frypan, angry that I couldn't talk to my friends, angry with everything about me. I hated myself. My claws, eyes and fangs had returned as I continued screaming and punching the tree. I kept punching it until all that was left in me was a broken mess. I slumped against the tree and started crying, letting everything fall. I cradled my bleeding hands as I continued to sob.

I felt someone's hands on me, holding me.

'Shhh, it is ok, I have got you' said a voice from above that I recognised as Frypan. He wrapped his hands around me as I buried my head into his chest, getting his shirt wet from my tears.

'I'm so sorry Fry' I say with tears still streaming down my cheek.

'It is ok y/n/n'

We stayed there for a little bit longer. Once I had calmed down, I removed myself from Frypans hold and wiped all the tears from my cheeks

'Now it is safe to that everyone is extremely concerned and worried for you' laughed Frypan trying to lighten the mood. I laughed a little bit. We both stood up and made our way back to the kitchen. Not without a few stares from the boys who had seen my meltdown. We entered the kitchen and started making dinner, which was lasagna. Frypan and I each made two big trays of lasagna. It didn't take long to make the trays as we only needed, lasagna sheets, sauce, cheese and egg. It was also repeating layers, so it was easy to remember what to do next. It took about 30 minutes to finish our trays, and we put it in the oven. Frypan turned on the radio and played some music and started singing, but I didn't feel like singing so I just leaned against the counter thinking. My thoughts consumed me like a weighted blanket. Pulling me down into them.

How did I lose control so easily? Do I change into a hellhound whenever I am angry? What if one day I can't calm myself down and I end up burning down the Glade?

The ovens timer went off, pulling out of my thoughts. I went over to the oven and pulled out all the trays. I helped Frypan distribute all the lasagna to all the plates. While frypan served the boys, I was in the side room sitting at the table. The side room was hidden so they couldn't see me from the serving window, but I could still hear them. Occasionally, a boy asked Frypan if I was alright and what had happened. Frypan would brush them off saying I was alright. That was until I heard Newt voice. As he asked Frypan if I was alright, he had pure concern and worry in his voice. Unlike the other boys, who wanted to know for their own curiosity, Newt was genuinely concerned for me. He cared for me. Once again Frypan said that I was alright, but I could tell that Newt didn't believe him. As the last Gladers got their dinner, I got mine and Frypan got his.

We made our way to his hut with dinner. Nervousness filled my mind. I will finally find out what I am capable of. We got to his hut, which is located with the other keepers, I stepped inside, and he went to his bedside draw. He got out a leather cover book which looked about 1000 pages thick

'You read all of that?' I questioned, surprised by the book thickness

'I had a lot of time on my hands'

'I can tell'

'So, this is the famous bestiary, as I said already it has pretty much every supernatural creature in here, along with their origin, strengths, weaknesses. Basically, everything you possibly need to know is in there'

'Ok, let's get reading then'

Part 10 - My Third Home

Hellhound.

'What? How do you know that?' I asked Frypan, questions lacing itself in my mind

'The bestiary.'

'What the fuck is that?'

'It is basically a guide or like an encyclopaedia for supernatural creatures. It came up in the box about a year ago. It had my name written on top of it, so I decided to read it, I mean I had nothing better to do. It has tons of supernatural creatures in there like werewolves, kanimas, werecoyotes, chimeras, wendigos and of course hellhounds' replied Frypan.

I returned to my pancakes which were beyond burnt now. My head was filled with questions from what is a hellhound to why did the creators send up the bestiary? I decided to start with the easiest question.

'Wait, so what is a hellhound?' I asked as I finished flipping the last batch of pancakes.

'How about during dinner, I show you the bestiary. We can have dinner in my hut as you read it. You can ask me all your questions then. Ok?'

'Sounds like a plan.'

Frypan served the Gladers their pancakes with fruit as I went to my hut for breakfast. It hurt not seeing my friends, but I know it is for their safety. I slowly pick at my food enable to shake the loneliness living inside me. I finished my pancakes, returned the utensils and plates to the kitchen and made my way to the Med Hut for work. The Med Hut is like my third home aside from my hut and kitchen. I usually spend most of the time talking to Jeff and Clint or bandaging a slicer or builder.

'Hey Jeff' I said to the keeper

'Hey Y/n. Good to see you.'

'Good to see you too'

An hour had passed with no injuries, so I figured today as going to be a quiet day. Since it was only Jeff and I in the hut today as it was Clint's day off, we couldn't do a big task, in case something happens, and we don't have enough people. I started getting bored waiting, so I decided to organise the medical cabinets. I started my emptying everything. All the bandages, medicines, syringes, disinfectants everything, it took up most of the benchtop and most of the morning.

'Hey Y/n? Time for lunch.' told Jeff. An hour before lunch is mean to start, I head down to the kitchen to help Frypan out. I arrived at the kitchen to be met with a smell of toast. I opened the door and greeted Fry.

'What are we making today?' I enquired

'Some toasted sandwiches' replied Frypan. I started cooking the sandwiches that Frypan had already made. It was really eerie and quiet in the kitchen, so I glanced at the radio behind me. I turned it on which made Frypan immediately look my way.

'Karaoke?'

'Karaoke' I confirmed

Party Monster by The Weeknd started playing and Frypan and I have never scream-sung so loud. We kept making lunch, Frypan making the sandwiches, and me cooking them. We let the radio keep on playing with songs from The Weeknd, Chase Atlantic, The Neighbourhood, Artemas, Ari Abdul, (G)idle and Enhypen (sorry if this isn't your taste of music). Lunch took about 45 minutes to finish so we called everyone to have lunch early. As Frypan started serving people, I made my way back to the med hut to finish organising the med hut cabinets. 

I set the plate onto the armrest of the closest chair. I took a bite of my sandwich and got back to work. First cleaning the cabinet with cloth and disinfectant then waiting for it to dry. As I waited, I finished my sandwich and walked back to the kitchen to return the plate. As I came back, I saw Jeff already in there, doing some inventory records. I quickly greeted him and returned to my work. I reorganized all the supplies and restocked them too. I took a step back and observed my work with a proud look on my face.

'You can have the rest of the day off, if you want Y/n' said Jeff not taking his eyes off his work

'Thank you, Jeff.' I left the med hut and started my walk back to the kitchen. I looked up at the sky and the position of the sun, I could tell it was about 3-4 pm. I turned the wooden doorknob and met Frypan who was sitting at the small table in the little side room. 

'I swear you practically live here' I pointed out

'I could say the same for you' Frypan countered

'Touche.' I sat down next to him, enjoying the peaceful silence. I love Frypan and all, but I was starting to feel lonely without Newt, Chuck, Thomas or even sassy Minho. 

Almost as if he was reading my mind Frypan said, 'You know you can't avoid everyone forever, your boyfriend Newt and Chuck came by earlier today to ask if you were alright. They are both worried sick about you.'

'You know that Newt isn't my boyfriend.'

'I know but you like him, like a lot. In all seriousness, you need to tell them. It isn't that hard Y/n. They will understand, they will support you.'

'OR THEY COULD BANISH ME! DON'T YOU GET IT FRY! I HAVE TOLD YOU THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN! I COULD KILL EVERYONE! I TOLD YOU MY MEMORY! I WAS ON FUCKING FIRE! I COULD DESTROY THE GLADE! KILL EVERYONE I CARE ABOUT, EVERYONE I LOVE!' I screamed as tears poured down my eyes. I hadn't noticed before, but my eyes were glowing, and I had claws.
