who up thinking about the giant dead friend hole in trinity’s heart
I'm thinking about Robby. About his pieces of his backstory, specifically, the reveal that Robby’s mother abandoned him when he was eight. For analysis purposes, we could place him in the category of being someone who is considered a ‘kinship adoptee’ (even if not formally) due to being raised by his grandparents. Many adoptees (and foster youth) experience lasting feelings of fears of abandonment well into adulthood (more about the impacts of adoption here; it’s a nuanced topic). This residual trauma can show up in many areas in life. And is apparent in Robby. We know he needs to feel needed. The ER gives him that. His chosen profession is as a doctor, which is a job defined by caring for others and others seeking out that care. If he leaves that ED and comes back to find it in one piece then this confirms his existing fear that he is no longer needed. That he will be forgotten. He says just as much. Robby has a fear of abandonment, both perceived and real. ALSO this explains another reason as to why he's having a hard time trusting others to run the ED without him -- his lack of trust in others. Robby has being handling things on his own mentally and within his work for many years (6 years post COVID and longer if you're talking about his other traumas). He is used to doing it alone. It is scary to reach out to people -- especially when they've let you down in the past (a recent example would be Langdon but could apply to something like his romantic relationships not working out, and obviously his mother leaving him -- his biggest betrayal). This could partially explain why he's a bit upset at Dr Al for dropping her health information on him at the very end of the shift. In his mind this confirms that he cannot trust anyone else to lead the ED. It has to be him.
When he’s with Baby Jane Doe (who's looking good and taking formula well) he talks to her as if he’s talking to his younger self. Telling her that there’s many good things to come. That life is still worth living. The wound of abandonment is still there but there are people who care [about you]. And you will find them. For many adoptees/FFY, it is important to find others with shared experience. This scene was an abandoned person talking to another abandon person (a baby). That is very meaningful.
As for if Robby will take her in… Robby is a looooong way from being healed or even stable and even Noah Wyle said it himself babies (and children by extension) are not life preservers. Children do not exist to fill a hole in an mentally unstable adult.
Also wanted to add that the death of his mentor (and likely father figure) probably (re)triggered his abandonment issues. For people who struggle with that sort of thing, death can be very much a trigger. He doesn't want to be let down and he doesn't want to let others down (he couldn't save Adamson or Jake's girlfriend, or stop Landgon with his addiction).
This was inspired by those stories you hear every now and then, where a married couple are going through childhood photos and discover that years before they properly met, they just happened to have both been in the same place, at the same time, and, as it turns out, even ended up in the same photo.
Or, Robby raids Jack’s embarrassing childhood photos and spots some surprisingly familiar faces in one of them.
(the rest of the baby!Jack unfortunate childhood photos are below the cut for those who are interested. Because I had too much fun sketching them 😂)

The AI encyclical doesn't yet have a Latin translation, because even though the Latin version is "official", it takes six to twelve months longer to prepare than all the others, an issue exacerbated by the use of terms that don't already have established neolatin translations. Since the timing is important and they don't want to rush the Latinists, they seem to have decided a few years back to move the Latin versions "off the critical path", even though this adds a layer of absurdity to the whole business. Since the encyclicals are still issued simultaneously in like ten other languages, this leaves it uncertain which version should be considered official -- it's likely that it was first written in Italian or perhaps English, then translated, but when the Latin version finally comes out like a year from now, it will retroactively be considered the official copy, and all the others will be considered vernacular translations of it. Which is already a funny story about where pragmatism meets tradition, but in reading about this I found some commentary from someone formerly of the Vatican's Latin office, who mentioned something even better: that one benefit of this process was that the Vatican got to see the public discourse about the document while translating it, which gave them a chance to tailor it to any controversies or confusion that might arise, so that, for instance, if there were competing readings of a passage based on subtle differences between translations, they could pick which one to favour after the fact. This means that this is sort of like Steam Early Access for papal encyclicals.

Everyone is 18+
Take 2 because apparently Tumblr thought I did my job too well 🙄
𝓞𝓻𝓸𝓹𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓲𝓸𝓷 𝓕𝓪𝓶𝓲𝓵𝔂. Here’s a redraw of the very first fanart that took off and also, in a weird way, the artwork that started my entire career. This trio holds a very, very special place in my heart.
Now I’m soft for elves…
PTSD headcanons: Ed Elric & Roy Mustang
this is why i shouldn’t be allowed to message tierfal at 4am.
Roy smelling burning meat and running and throwing up and throwing up. He comes back and expects Ed to make some wiseass comment but Ed has gone w h i t e and hands him a handkerchief without saying anything. He hasn’t moved a step.
Ed Elric being the only fifteen year old Roy’s ever seen with that bad a case of a thousand-yard stare and he’s see Ishval refugee children in the slums. Alphonse just goes Brother really quietly and brings him back when his eyes have gone glassy and he’s spacing out. Most of the time, it works.
Ed having fits where they find him shaking somewhere from a panic attack. You can tell even if you didn’t see him have it. He’s always a bit too loud afterwards, a bit too cheerful. He’s laughing but his hands are shaking. Roy sees this and frowns. Ed notices, glares and shoves his hands back in his pockets.
Roy’s habit of drumming his fingers is a PTSD tich. He breathes in and out to it.
Roy falling asleep at his desk is something everyone else thinks is funny but it’s because nightmares & insomnia happen after dark.
Him and Ed running into each other in the Central HQ canteen at 5am as it opens. Ed’s forgotten his change to pay for the coffee. Roy pays for it and then they sit in silence drinking it at 5am alone in this huge empty echoing canteen. One of the staff drops a platter. Roy throws them both under the nearest table. Ed spends the next forty minutes coaxing him back out. They never acknowledge it happened.
The military are given compulsory psychiatric evals and Ed Elric’s notes literally scream do not send him into the field because they’re too fine. It’s almost as though Ed has realised how to play someone ‘normal’ and goes in and plays it and comes back out again. Roy knows because they use the same phrases on his.
Roy’s desk is where it is because he has the best sightline to the exit. Riza moved it there for him on the first day.
Roy doesn’t ever take one night stands home. He goes to theirs and leaves straight after. He could wake up attacking them in his sleep. It’s happened before.
Roy has a bag of clothes + essentials by the door in case he has to grab and run. It makes him feel safer.
Roy anonymously donates a portion of his pay to Ishvalan refugee charities.
Ed has to work oil into his skin most nights. Scar tissue doesn’t grow.
Roy knowing Ed probably does this purely because he knows too much about scar tissue.
Ed doesn’t complain. He doesn’t think it’s fair. He got the better deal, out of the two of them.
Ed follows women with long brunette hair down the street in Central sometimes. He knows it’s irrational. He still does it.
Ed suffers from anger/grief bursts (where out of the blue you get a sudden resurfacing of very intense anger or grief as a result of suppression). A lot of Ed’s hotheadness makes sense if you think of him as basically having a very prolonged case of that. Suppression makes it worse. Suppression is why it exists.
One time, Roy goes, “don’t you have any friends your own age, kid?”
He never asks again.

I just googled this and… yes, it’s absolutely real.
And there are so many articles and videos and discussions. Like, the scientific community is buzzing about this.
So much research will have to be redone because the data was absolutely compromised, off by orders of magnitude, by using standard lab gloves.
The world is probably not horrifically contaminated by microplastics. Sterile laboratories, however, are contaminated by latex and nitrile gloves.
Thank God someone bothered to check.
