For decades, pet owners, zoos and laboratories were all told that “feather mites” were harmful bird parasites that needed total eradication, but we apparently only just recently looked at their gut contents and we’ve found that they’re eating nothing but fungi, bacteria and other feather contaminants - many of which are actually harmful to birds when left unchecked.
