Many millennials are becoming pet owners instead of having kids, and they're buying premium products.
good job, guys, weâre killing the shitty pet food industry this time. it canât POSSIBLY be that we just recognized Gravy Train or Kibbles and Bits for being piss poor food choices; no, weâre just treating our pets too nicely.Â

Damn straight! Hopefully the next industry we kill will be fish bowls
Wait. Why are we wanting to kill fish bowl industry? I might be getting a fish for Christmas and need to know why it needs to be in something other than a bowl! đ
Several things! :DÂ Iâm not a fish-keeper, but I can outline a few.Â
1. Fish bowls are too small for fish. Even the popular betta fish need a minimum of at least a few gallons to thrive (I THINK right now the general feeling is 5 gallons). Its a myth that fish will only grow as large as their container. What actually happens is that they physically CANâT grow so they end up deformed and cramped.
2. They are hard to heat/maintain properly. Waste builds up FAST in a small tank, and theyâre difficult to heat/cool properly. Ideally, you want a gradient of different heats, so the fish can swim to whatever it needs at that moment. But tiny spaces can heat up/cool down too much, too fast. Plus, if one of your values (like nitrogen) crashes, it crashes hard and FAST in a tiny tank. You got more wriggle room in a larger tank.
3. Limited space means limited areas for plants and decor. Fish need spaces to hide, so they can feel secure.
If you have your heart set on a fish bowl, there are some things you can keep in it. Marimo moss balls are perfect for small bowls. There are also things like fairy shrimp that can do fine in a 1 gallon bowl, and you could even keep a triops in there!
going for a minimum of 10 gallons will give u a lot of wiggle room in slowing bad build up (if u miss a water change or whatever) and if u want to get snails or something. plus, most things are built for a 10 g
