uhhh even if this is just a one off mermay thing(probably) I did actually make some lore just for fun, so if you're curious here's that under the cut :]
Sage is a world renowned professional in practically every field, a prodigy from a young age and continuing far into his adult years and known to constantly be swapping around to whatever interests him. The chain on his belt connects to an odd gem he discovered during one of his many excursions(a gem we know to be a soul jam). His latest interest is a sunken kingdom off the coast of a small island, paying to be taken out to where the most common sightings of it are despite all the warnings, only for the boat to crash during a sudden storm(which is caused by a certain someone), which is where he sees Truthless and where this image more than likely takes place!
I'm not entirely sure if Sage is just a normal mortal, or if he found the Soul Jam centuries ago and has just been around for a really long time. Either way works tbh.
Truthless is a Mer(or Siren! I'm not entirely sure, up to interpretation! Though siren is growing on me) who had once been captured by the very kingdom that had sunk below the waves that Sage searches for, having been a source of magic for them to use. When he was finally able to free himself, he sunk the kingdom in a fit of rage and desperation, deciding to isolate himself amongst it's ruins to hide it away for good. Too bad there's some weird land dweller obsessed with both him and the kingdom now.
Oh! Also a fun little tidbit, you know how Black Pearl can just, swap between being cookie sized and giant? yeah Truthless does that too, but even in cookie size he's still decently big.

Just out of curiosity since you did make that big Sage and Truthless post going into how you felt about them being morally gray and enjoying that, did the new update change your mind at all?
IT DID YES!!! AND IM HAPPY IT DID!!! My take was entirely speculative so now that we have more character to go by and I can more thoroughly analyze him I'M EXCITED!!!!
I always sorta knew that no matter what happened if Sage was brought back my thoughts on him would change, and I'm happy about it!! I definitely have some additional thoughts, some initial ones have changed some have not, and some I'm still thinking over. I think so far one of the big things that has stuck with me is from the post I reblogged before this, "Truth without Compassion". It's something that's really making me think and analyze Sage so much more. I'd definitely need to analyze him on my own a bit for a better grasp on him and what exactly has changed in my head.
Oughhh honestly this update just made me super excited, I had put down a Sage one shot I was working on because I wasn't feeling the characterization, but this showing of him makes me want to work on it again!!
Sage is even more fascinating of a character than I ever previously envisioned.
Like, he takes the revelation that he's the singular instance of the Fount of Knowledge in all of time-space to not corrupt like a fucking champ, for one, even going as far as to exposit on his own mentality from the days he almost reached that exact same breaking point such that TK could better understand Ultshamil's own present methodology, and the contradictory nature of it therein. He seems pretty nonplussed about the fact that he's apparently cosmically predisposed to being miserable and evil. (Timekeeper divulging that that even in universes where the Fount doesn't corrupt on his own terms something usually else spurs it on is what makes this especially existentially horrific! Delicious!)
He's just so cheerily matter-of-fact about everything. The world, his past, and his present interests/intentions-but he doesn't tend to even be nudged into divulging any personal information to begin with, which is how we end up with this fascinating gray area on exactly what he's thinking and feeling at any given time and what his opinions on cookiekind even are. He's mild-mannered and accepting of his role as a truthsayer in an almost Buddhist fashion? But also, like, will readily turn around and concede that he would do the same amount of timeline editing that Ultshamil has if in his shoes. Total transparency in his interest in changing the past (to a "reasonable" extent).
"All the cookies interesting enough to watch would disappear" I think most clearly outlines the way Sage approaches the world; he's amicable, generally interested in the greater good, and all around pretty well-adjusted, but its clear that the way he survived his experience as the Fount involved him shifting into an inherently self-centered mentality. The contrast between what he himself states about how the Fount struggled because he had no personal connections, to the Sage finding it only Mildly Interesting when TK asked who he is is really telling, to me? It strikes me as if he eliminated any amount of a shit he had to give about any other cookies from his mind provided they aren't able to keep in step with him intellectually, and any exceptions such as TK themself make for a fun novelty more than a long-term connection.
It's not clearly spelled out what precisely set him apart and allowed him to exist in this "miracle timeline", but I wouldn't be surprised if it centered around him reaching peace and understanding in himself, foremost; finding "enlightenment" by casting aside the burden of caring about what happens to other cookies as a result of the Knowledge he provides. I don't say this as a negative, mind you, but this only strengthens the argument that he exists as an inversion of Pure Vanilla's Truth; it is Reality without Compassion. I think that's really fucking cool.

I already do avoid it during updates because it's genuinely exhausting to be around negativity like that, but oh boy... this one... I'll be sticking to my following page only because I'm so worried how this will be taken by the fandom
I'm excited for it, understand why others are not, kinda questioning why he's here, but excited none the less because, well- it's me, and he's a variant of a comfort character.
Definitely understand why other people aren't happy though and I've already started seeing really awful posts, so I'll be staying away from the fandom outside my corner for a while lmao
mann I hate that I literally end up so scared of the FANDOM'S reaction that I choose to just not share my happiness publicly, like that's not how fandom should work, but too bad it's how it's working until this fandom learns how to be normal

I wanted to do something special for Eternal Sugar's one year anniversary. I joined the game during her update and, as I think is pretty obvious, fell in love with it. So, I knew I wanted to do something special for Eternal(and Hollyberry by extent). Kind of sentimental about this update haha, this game has come to mean so much to me and introduced me to some great people. To think I used to think this game would just be a mild interest is so funny considering how it's evolved, I love my cookies <3

I need him crying and sobbing and cursing everyone and everything by the end of it all, to do literally everything to fight and tear apart the timeline in the end because he's cornered and refusing to back down because failing means he's once again everything he's done would have been for nothing, he would have failed again, and to fail is a fate worse than death in his eyes at this point.
But also I am begging devsis not to kill Shadow Milk whenever act 2 ends lmao
I already cried so hard during WL's death and she's not even my favorite I don't think I could handle him dying lmao, but also just because I don't think it'd make sense for him to outright die based on set ups. But- it's still a possibility and it scares me :]]

I really like them I'm so excited because from my very broken subtitles I think I gathered they're gonna be a pretty complex character. THAT and my crack theory is that theyre silentlily kid from another timeline or at least VERY closely related in some way to Salt in another timeline to make Shadow Milk seek them out and manipulate them. I highly doubt that they're a silentlily kid lmao that's why that part is more crack theory, but I do think they're close to Salt in some timeline or at least were.
Also in that second image here it's them whos seemingly by the jar and doing something to the soul jams.

The entire premise of the AU is the idea that Fount, having grown so incredibly tired of the constant pressure of the role of emissary, decides what better way to avoid his inevitable crash out than to go hunting for some myth that doesn't exist! Or at least he thinks doesn't exist.
It's just an excuse for him to leave some of his duties for at least a week or two, and any break is good in his eyes. And instead of just what he thinks is going to be a few weeks of just noting local flora and fauna in parts of Crispia, he finds a species of Faeries even less known about than the Silver Faeries, ones he's never heard of outside the very myth he thought to be mere stories.
Ending up finding the Flower Faeries of the Wildwood Kingdom and their king who is much more welcoming than he expected.
Oh and he may have accidentally started courting the king(who is very happy reciprocating) without realizing, but it's fine! I'm sure there's not going to be any consequences or shenanigans born from that :D
I'd like to do more with this au! I really would! I've got little things I love about it and want to make relating to it, some of the main things being Candy Apple and Black Sapphire's roles and references, who I already had planned out from the beginning lmao.
Oh! Also PV's hair is very much inspired by @/pronouns-d-ace's Viri design(I'm too nervous to tag them directly haha). It is quite literally almost impossible for me to picture him without his ponytail now because of them.
