Mini Momo sketch I made back in January <3

She’d fucked up. She’d fucked up bad, and long ago. She never should have taken a gap year, certainly not a decade’s worth. She would never get to where she wanted to go in life, never achieve any kind of dream, never be who, deep down, she had still hoped she would be.

Then a miracle came.

Hello! It’s been a long time. I wrote this story last year in November and I realized I never posted it here. Though some time has passed, I think it is still worth sharing.

This story is kind to those who have felt the ravages of time without, I think, condescending or patronizing the reader. It is weird and ridiculous. Romantic and dark. It’s also very honest. If you are struck by feelings of arrested development or missed or delayed goals in life, you may find something valuable here. 

This is a story about pain and sorrow, about failure and regret, about intimacy and sex, about life and trauma and the desperate, futile struggle against the iron grip of fate. 

But most of all, it is a story about love. Pure, passionate love.

Summary:

He moved his head lazily to meet her gaze, but before he could even utter a word, his eyes went wide when he took in her appearance. Not that it was much different from before. Of course she was cleaned up now and the Yukata wasn't as loose fitting as her shrine maiden robes, but it shouldn't make such a difference. Well, maybe the fact that she wore her hair down threw him off. She was told a few times that she looked a bit different when her whole hair framed her face.

I was having a hell of a day when I attempted this. I knew I wanted to draw Momo, but I wasn't quite sure exactly in what capacity. This moment is so incredible that I felt like drawing her in any other moment was...not doing her as much justice as I did for Okarun? But could I manage the same moment in such a powerful way?

The moment I flipped this canvas and started swapping these two teenagers' places, I was like "oh man, what have I gotten myself into?"

But mannnnn, am I happy that I pushed through how tricky this was and came out the other side. Because I love how this came out.

momo is so besotted with okarun - like truly, deeply, madly in love with him. she canonically dreams about him, wants his attention all the time. is so desperate for him to want her the way she wants him. momo thinks about him all the time and it’s almost painful the way she aches for him that we, the reader, FEEL it when she’s hanging on to his every word and every glance.
