Amanda Gorman: The Hill We Climb

She gave millions and raised millions to help people displaced by wildfires in her childhood home of the smoky mountains a few years ago. This included giving displaced people $1,000 a month. Her imagination library has given away over 130 million books worldwide to young children to help end illiteracy which was a problem in the poor community she grew up in. In case you’ve not been there now, however, the smoky mountains where she grew up is a huuuuuuge tourist destination much in part due to her theme park Dollywood, which has boost the economy immensely. The imagination library gives children a new book every month from birth to age 5. She gives $500 to every 12th grader who graduates high school in her home county. There’s a looooot more but I can’t list everything.
