there's nothing like hearing chimney swifts chipping in the air <3 once you notice them you can never unnotice them!! people usually know nothing about them so i'm like "do you hear this tipitipitipi sound? those are chimney swifts and they're endangered because their nesting sites are very scarce today so they nest in specific chimneys hence their name. do you want to see a picture wait let me open the merlin app-" i'm happy hearing them all summer :3

a lot of people dont care about insect biomass collapse bc when they hear we are losing 2.5% of the insect biomass per year they just imagine the cockroach and housefly population decreasing by that much. they dont realize those are among the only ones that will remain unbothered

Hard agree. Like we are loosing fireflies by the thousands. They are beautiful and seeing a good amount of them in one space is magical. when i was young we filled jars with them. But honestly, house flies and cockrosches are also doing their jobs as detritivours eating waste that no one else will..

i found another bird observatory that searches for volunteers for fall migration so i completed the form. i really hope their teams are not already complete. this one would be more complicated to reach because i don't have a driver's license (yet) but i asked if carpooling could be a possibility

#the other bird observatory was far too but more accessible by bus
