“The police spend very little of their time dealing with violent criminals—indeed, police sociologists report that only about 10% of the average police officer’s time is devoted to criminal matters of any kind. Most of the remaining 90% is spent dealing with infractions of various administrative codes and regulations: all those rules about how and where one can eat, drink, smoke, sell, sit, walk, and drive. If two people punch each other, or even draw a knife on each other, police are unlikely to get involved. Drive down the street in a car without license plates, on the other hand, and the authorities will show up instantly, threatening all sorts of dire consequences if you don’t do exactly what they tell you. The police, then, are essentially just bureaucrats with weapons. Their main role in society is to bring the threat of physical force—even, death—into situations where it would never have been otherwise invoked, such as the enforcement of civic ordinances about the sale of untaxed cigarettes.”
— An excerpt from Ferguson & the Criminalization of American Life by David Graeber (via actjustly)
since i think many will have had the memory slip with just how many other atrocities have occured in the past 11 years, or are simply too young to remember, the last bit about the sale of untaxed cigarettes isn’t just some hypothetical, it’s a reference to the killing of eric garner
this is the origin of the slogan “i cant breathe”, which was revived in the wake of the killing of george floyd.
On this day, 17 July 2014, Eric Garner was murdered by police enforcing a civic ordinance.
Collins is gone.
Namaygoosisagagun First Nation/Collins has burned to the ground. The entire community is nothing but ashes after being quickly consumed by wildfires. They did not have any support from emergency services, and no one offered aid. The community saved themselves by escaping into boats because no one came.
Mishkeegogamang and Cat Lake have lost power. Families are ending up in shelters with nothing. Armstrong, Lac La Croix, Whitesand, Gull Bay, Lac des Mille Lacs are currently in the fires path and all members are being evacuated.
All this loss, all this devastation, and it was entirely preventable.
After steadily underfunding wildland firefighting and purposefully excluding Indigenous wildland firefighters and Indigenous wildfire organizations from wildfire operations, firefighter training, decisionmaking, and resource exchanges, in 2025, Doug Ford slashed the forest firefighting budget.
It's hard to ignore his decision to cut funding and leave us out of adequate fire training (even though we've lived with forest fires for thousands of years—far longer than settlers have been in Canada—and made sure fires like the ones we're all seeing today were prevented through kinisitotēn) when, despite making up less than 5% of the population, we account for 42% percent of all wildfire evacuations in Canada.
And when we are successfully evacuated, we face discrimination and racism—like Kashechewan—because it's always been easier to blame us than it is to blame the true culprit: denialism, corportate greed, and colonization.
The people of Collins and every other impacted community deserve better.
Right now, the AFN is currently accepting donations to help Collins First Nation. If you're able to, please consider donating.
ONWA (Ontario Native Women's Association) is another great place to donate to. They have outreach vans going to motels and inns and offering food, water, resources, and cultural support to those impacted by the wildfires.
Other places to consider donating to are Mikinakoos Emergency Fund, Red Cross, True North Aid, Indigenous Climate Action. You can also send donations directly to Whitesand First Nation via e-transfer ([email protected]) and they request that you add your full name in the e-transfer comment section to receive a tax receipt.
*Before sending money, verify that the appeal appears on an official First Nation, Tribal Council or registered charity channel.
If you can't offer financial support, please consider donating items of need. Moontime Connections is currently accepting drop-off donations. If you live in the Thunder Bay area, Namaygoosisagagun Health Office is also taking in donations! They can also bemailed to Superior Inn Hotel & Conference Centre at 555 West Arthur Street, Thunder Bay, ON, P7E 5P8.
items needed are: food, diapers, medical masks, men’s and women’s joggers (all sizes), children’s clothing (newborn to size 14), children’s shoes, summer clothing, men’s clothing, toiletries (lotion, Vaseline, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, etc.), strollers, adult depends-all sizes, dog & cat food

ok taking a break from the bit bc its serious time. like mousidy has also commented on, have been seeing people showing support for the idea of a transmasc focused thing like that, and in one circumstance (@/tmasc-voices) trying to do what transmascvoicesproject did but intentionally "trying to make it not as bad" (which ended up with them mostly just trying to make a good thing into a blue thing and tagging everything #transandrophobia which is definitely a one way ticket to get me to hate your guts anyways but w/e.) and notably i think a fundamental thing a lot of people are missing is that tvp centers tma people for a very very important reason. and it's that truthfully we aren't listened to about the abuses we've suffered in any way in 99.9% of forums.
as a poor trans woman (which is most of us), i do not have any power to cope with the constant abuses happening to us. my plan if i end up homeless is to call a cab, go to the nearest place where i think girls like me might hang out, and see if any of them have a couch i can crash on. because i'm not safe on the street, and i'm barred from every shelter in my area. the homeless shelters that include men exclude me on the basis that i'll get raped so it's a safety issue, the women's ones because i'm a scary tranny, and the explicitly christian ones because they actively donate to the killing trannies fund. i tried to go to therapy to talk about getting successfully abuserjacketed after an abusive relationship i was in (a not uncommon occurance for us, bc everyone and their mom believes the violent tranny narrative), tried to put enough money away to get in there for a session or two to test the water. and i didn't think it was worth so much as a second session because the ciswoman therapist wouldn't stop looking at me like a monster and hitting like 5 microaggressions a second. this is what it's like doing anything as someone like me. even when i am in my lowest moments and actively seeking help, i am looked at like a predator and forcibly excluded. *that* is why you need to uplift people like me.
the message you should be taking from tvp is not that we need a blue version of it. it's that even if you make a similar thing that allows transmascs, it should be centering transfems, and actively welcoming us in. at the very fucking least just please brush up on your transfeminism so you don't fuck it all up, then make something that's coed, because you do not need your blue thing as much as we need anything.
efforts towards a "positive vision of masculinity" or whatever are so funny because what these guys are trying to figure out is literally "what's a way of being a good person that's Not For Girls™"

I am not asking for help now but I would like to say its been made clear that terfs and potentially others have been spreading around that I'm a scammer. I believe that this has been part of the difficulty raising money and I would like tme people to consider that this is likely happening to other trans women as well and give more consideration to trans women fundraising if they've been hesitant.
once again hopelessly asking - is there anyone in Portland, Oregon who could maybe take in a trans girl and her cat for a bit if things fall apart next month? I don’t wanna be on the street and I don’t wanna lose all my stuff and especially Oliver
sorry I’m all booked

I have 3 days left to pay a $400 bill and I barely make $30 a day if I’m lucky
Hey, my friend Thorn really needs some help and I’d appreciate it if you could at least reblog this if you can’t donate. I’d like them to get more than that $400 because they been goin through it in a way that’s racked up debt beyond that, and they can’t catch a fucking break ever.
So if you’ve ever wanted to toss money my way for anything I’ve written/done, toss it to them right now rn instead. And if you can’t? Reblog this so someone else can.
when people treat trans women's breasts as if they aren't real breasts and when they treat our vaginas as if they aren't real vaginas they are contributing to the idea that when we are raped it isn't really rape
Jill Collen Jefferson, the founder of JULIAN, explains what happens when a transgender woman’s death is ruled a suicide and a community call
This is grim and unsurprising but I’m heartened that there are people devoting themselves to bringing this horrific pattern to light. Lynchings never ended, and reports of suicides among Black transfems in particular should be cause for suspicion
so many people post like they are from the dimension of No Misogyny because the misogyny all around them just registers to them as fine and normal
we are all posting from the dimension of No Misandry because we live on the planet earth
don't go into the humanities because they're unprofitable and don't go into stem cuz its getting torn apart right now and don't go into buisness because it's competetive and speculative and don't go into education because it pays like shit. Just lay on thr ground. Just lay on the ground.

Isn’t it kind of fun how when your life sucks you just can’t talk about it with anyone
I’m serious though. When your life reaches a degree of suckage, you find yourself having to look elsewhere for anything at all to talk about. The things going on in your life are trauma dumping. Your past is probably also trauma dumping. So you have to get really weird about specific things or hope that others want to talk to you, because very quickly people are going to develop an aversion to you and the way your life sucks. Unless you just don’t talk about it
It’s socially isolating, which is dangerous—when you’re in this sort of situation, community is the difference between life and death, housing and homelessness.
I think the collective prioritization of comfort first is hurting people in a real and material sense
