dean starts crying when he hands sam off to eileen and he doesnāt stop. heās weepy for the entire ceremony, weepy on the way to the reception, weepy about the tiny hors d'oeuvres, weepy when sam and eileen come into the reception hall laughing and holding hands and smiling.
cas stays by his side the whole night, keeps rubbing circles right between his shoulder blades and along his arms. the touches make him tear up even more, they make the reality of everything thatās happened for the past four months settle in.
he and sammy are both married to the loves of their lives, and they made it, they made it, and itās good.
when itās time for his āfatherā of the groom speech, cas lets dean go up alone, but dean canāt get a single word out. heās choking, eyes blurring so he canāt even make out the happy couple at the head table. then, as if on cue, his husband is there, pressing a hand against the small of his back and gently taking the microphone from him. he taps deanās shoulder three times and the move reminds dean of the planned ending of his speech.
he doesnāt have to speak to sign congratulations, i love you.
eileenās blurry form in deanās tear addled eyes gives him what he thinks is a bright smile and an i love you back, but he canāt be sure. he tries to wipe his eyes with the back of his hand.
then, cas is squeezing his hand on his shoulder and dean is leaning into his side as cas starts his own speech, finding some eloquent way to blend their two planned pieces together. it gets a few laughs, deanās not sure what for, but it seems to be going well so he just lets the rumble of the deep voice bring him down from his emotionally fraught state.
when cas is done, dean smiles at sam and eileen, and cas guides them back to the table.
sam whispers over to him, āthank you.ā
sam knew what dean was probably going to say. of course he did. there wasnāt anything heād say up there thatād be a surprise for him.
dean smiles and puts his arm around his brother, pulling him into some semblance of a side hug, āproud of you, sammy.ā
sam rolls his eyes, āitās sam.ā dean chuckles as sam pulls away to face eileen and answer clinking spoons against glass with a passionate kiss.
after sam and eileen drive off into the metaphorical sunset, cans dragging behind them, deanās waterworks start up again. he lets cas pull him into baby, lets cas drive them home, lets cas wrap him in his arms and warm blankets at home.
despite his headache from all the tears and the deep heartache he feels about all the sudden changes in his life, dean feels so happy he might burst.
he falls into a deep, well-earned sleep, cheek pressed to casā shoulder.
when he wakes up in the morning next to cas, eyes swollen and bleary, he realizes that his life has never been more clear.
