With so many elections coming up worldwide it's probably a good time to remind everyone that tumblr once got infested with agents trying to convince everyone not to vote, or not to vote left because the candidates weren't morally pure enough.
Also a reminder that they were better at tumblr than most of us, comrade interloper was great at memeing. Like, the talent!
Anyway don't fall for it. There is no morally pure option.
and since I still regularly come across the argument of "those blogs couldn't have been psyops, they were leftist minorities who posted about activism," here's a reminder that the people behind these blogs will position themselves as whoever they need to be to get the most credibility in the space they're trying to infiltrate, and they will post whatever they need to post in order to establish that cover
they will do a lot of that, actually; most of their posts are usually a mix of popular memes (since that's what gains followers) and reasonable-sounding posts about social and political issues (since that's what "proves" their legitimacy and establishes their cover), and in between all of that is the occasional post about how voting is useless and the progressive candidate is Just As Bad, Actually
these blogs are meant to be indistinguishable from real people in left-leaning communities because that's the entire point
so this is also a reminder that you cannot use someone's identity or sociopolitical views as a substitute for thinking critically about what you're reading, especially now that we know for a fact that this has happened here before

i hope straight trans men who thought they were lesbians and straight trans women who thought they were gay men know that they're valid and wonderful
hey if youโre disabled or chronically ill & have a hard time standing i want you to know that itโs ok to sit down when able bodied people wouldnโt or arenโt. not just in the context of using a wheelchair but just like. whenever. pull up a stool in front of the stove when you make mac & cheese. kneel on a chair in front of the sink when youโre washing the dishes. going outside to smoke/wait for a cab/whatever? pop a squat on the sidewalk/curb/stoop. get a shower chair. itโs not weird or shameful to minimize your pain & itโs not worth wasting spoons just because โnormal people would do it standing upโ
which isnt to say dont stand up if youre needing to get the exercise of standing when you can but if youโre working with a limited energy budget & dont need to cause yourself that extra pain. you dont have to
Are y'all really this self-conscious? Iโm โableโ, but Iโm also fucking lazy. Like, able people arenโt like, โI can stand, so I will!โ Just, some donโt feel like sitting or just wanna stand. Me, though, Iโll sit down to do anything if I can. Just cuz.
i never explain my posts to abled people as a general rule bc theyre not for you but you caught me in a real good mood & i actually feel like diving into it
so
that self consciousness is forced into us. before i got sick i had no qualms about sitting when i wanted to sit. even in public. i was known for it. hell i once took a nap on the sidewalk outside the local hangout spot while my friends guarded me
i didnโt start to become anxious about sitting โtoo muchโ until i got sick. disability is seen as something shameful, & sitting when others wouldnโt called attention to my shame. add a cane to a teenager sitting on a stoop & suddenly youโre not a punkass kid, youโre a fucking tragedy. disabled people are also constantly, unrepentantly accused of being lazy & not trying hard enough, not doing enough, taking the easiest way at the expense of our dignity. sitting when i wanted to seemed to confirm that i was exactly the lazy asshole everyone said i was. & while you can say youโre lazy with no reprecussions, disabled peoples supposed โlazinessโ is used to deny us accommadations, benefits, medical care & basic human decency. people (although not as many as it first felt like) stared in a different way when i sat in odd spots in public than they had before i had the cane with me. vague amusement & slight annoyance gave way to disgust & pity. the stares were either far longer or broken by awkwardly averted eyes- everyone wants to stare at the cripple, but nobody wants to be caught doing it
plus, honestly, the thought of using a stool to cook or a chair to do dishes never even occurred to me for the longest time, simply because People Donโt Do That
& iโm not even going to start to unpack the stigma behind the shower chair, because thatโs a post of its own
ultimately though, these feelings donโt very often lead to me forcing myself to stand when i canโtโฆ but only because my whole thing is analyzing & rejecting the roots of internalized ableism. iโm the original cripple punk for fucks sake. however, i know that if iโm even feeling them that other disabled people must be struggling too, & probably really need to hear that itโs ok
so iโm telling them that it is
tl;dr: the reason you have no problem sitting whenever you want is because you donโt have to & therefore there is no socially enforced stigma surrounding it for you
Also, thereโs another component of shame if youโre a fat disabled person, because then youโve got the double โyouโre just lazyโ stigma. So itโs really hard to feel ok sitting down even if you really want to.

I noticed that the same trait that one person finds annoying is something others will find endearing or admirable. for example, a funny and confident person can be judged by a few people as annoying or loud. but others will admire your confidence and ability to make them smile and laugh! shyness can be seen as apathetic and boring, but others will enjoy your quiet company, and admire your amazing ability to listen & say thoughtful words. whether itโs due to insecurity or incompatibility, there will always be someone who will dislike you for being a certain trait, but there are so many more people who will love you for it. if you feel the need to hide and isolate yourself, it means you havenโt been lucky yet or havent met enough people. it does NOT mean youโre not lovable!!!!!!!! I promise!!!

the best way to support libraries is to use libraries. go get a card, check something out. not a big reader? they got movies. they got games. yes, like botw and fallout and letโs go eevee. they also have cds that yes, we workers know you take home and rip to your computer. we also do it.ย
if you have a well funded library you might even have access to maker spaces that have 3D printers. or video/audio recording equipment. libraries arenโt these tomb silent homes for books any more. theyโre community spaces. theyโre full of life and things.ย
put a middle finger up at jeffrey bezos andย support your local library
did i mention we have printing services that are significantly cheaper than anywhere else? printers are evil, let us handle them for you.
Library worker here and can confirm all of these! Iโm at a small-to-medium library and we offer ALL of this:
- wifi hotspots that can be checked out for weeks so you can have internet on the go or at home
- CDs, DVDs, blurays including usually multiple copies of new stuff
- A tech lab with a 3d printer, computers for graphic design and game dev focus, VR headsets, and a soundbooth for recording
- Study rooms for solo or groups
- Printers, copiers, faxes, and scanners for just about anything you need taken care of.
- Including a new printer big enough to make giant posters, maps, and business-grade ads.
- A seed library, both floral and food-related.
- A computer lab programed to erase your data and reading history so youโre never at risk while visiting sites like domestic abuse hotlines
- Laptops pre-programmed with Adobe and Office software so you donโt have to buy them
- Monthly author visits
- Ebooks including comics on tons of various platforms
- Classes for those who want to learn how to or better their computer skills
- Art you can check out to hang on your wall for as long as itโs available, including the work of local artists who get paid for their art, especially if it gets popular and we want even more of their stuff.
- Monthly papers ranging from local newspapers to multi-national magazines on just about any topic you can imagine.
- We used to offer food and drink at a loss but You Know ยฉ
- Notaries with extensive legal knowledge including renters rights, getting you in contact with immigration protection, and contacts with pro-bono lawyers.
- A connection with all the libraries in the state, so if we donโt have something, we can have it shipped to you within a matter of days.
- Books translated into multiple languages
- A donation bin for old books/DVDs/VHSes that often turn around and get sold for two or less dollars
- A food donation site for local food banks
- A โsuggest a purchaseโ section on our site where you can support your favorite indie writers/musicians by suggesting their work if we donโt already have it
- Weโre growing butterflies this year, and in prior years we hatched chickens! \o/
- An outreach program for the elderly and disabled who hand-deliver almost everything Iโve just mentioned
Thatโs a huge list and again I have to stress that I work at a library thatโs not considered to be very large. And one of the biggest things we get rated by is not how many books we own but by how many people use all of those services I mentioned. They exist for YOU! Use them!
