Despite how well intended we are in sticking to our optimal nutritional protocols, assembling maximum enjoyment from our lives has to [without doubt] involve a flexible dietary intake. - And given that high summer is approaching, enjoying an ice cream/lolly whilst experiencing such pleasing climates may further enrich our enjoyment during such times. - And if appreciation of energy values of such palatable delights is required, this graphic shows that an array of low calorie options can easily fit into most dietary intakes regularly with relative caloric insignificance. Insightful food for thought! π . HEALTHY vs HEALTHYπ¬π¬ (read this caption!) - Let me just say that I am a BIG FAN of eating HEALTHY FOOD (of courseπ). However, trying to reach any fitness goal (fat loss/muscle gain) by simple βeating healthyβ can be a frustrating journey.. π© - Explain? 10 years ago I didnβt know a single thing about calories or macronutrients. Zero. So when I tried to go on a diet, and tried to lose some weight, I would just start βeating healthyβ. So I would cut out (what I thought was) unhealthy foods like bread, candy, chocolate etc. And only eat foods labeled as βhealthyβ (π) - Guess what? It didnβt work. I didnβt lose any weight. So it was basically what I call a lose-lose situation (opposite of win-winπ€ͺ). Because I didnβt get to eat the foods I enjoyed (ππ«) and it didnβt even make me lose weight - Fast forward a few years and I started learning about calories and macros. And the fact that I could fit some chocolate or some ice-cream into my otherwise healthy diet and still lose weight.π€―π€― because total caloric intake IS the number 1 thing that controls weight-management (Not if the food is βhealthyβ or βunhealthyβ) - So to wrap up this reaaaally long caption (sorry) I want to say that HEALTH matters a lot. But when it comes to losing weight, there has to be an understanding of calories. Because as you can see in the picture there can be a big difference of calories in two foods even though theyβre both βhealthyβ !! - If you read till here then I freakin love you! Ideal breakfast anyone?? ππ»ππΌββοΈππ»ββοΈ . πͺπ» Protein is my go to in the morning because it keeps me fuller longer! These egg-cellent π₯ breakfast egg cups are easy & last for a week in the fridge or longer frozen! _ These only take about 5 mins to prep and 25 mins to bake, so you could be multitasking while waiting for them to bake. Cooking at home and being healthy can be SO easy and prevent you from grabbing something unhealthy or going hungry in the morning. Makes a great snack too! _ To make it: First cook the quinoa as shown on package. Then whisk the eggs and egg whites with all of the shown chopped ingredients or veggies of your choice, spray a muffin tin with cooking spray and portion info pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until set. Know your nuts!! π° ** Save this post for quick reference ** . π₯100 Calories in Nutsπ₯ ππ»ββοΈ Hands up if you love nuts... - Eating nuts as part of a healthy diet may be good for your heart. Nuts contain unsaturated fatty acids and other nutrients. And they're a great snack food β inexpensive, easy to store and easy to pack when you're on the go. One drawback to nuts is that they're high in calories, so If you are serious about reaching your goals, wether it be losing weight or gaining muscle its good to have an idea of what you are putting in your bodyβ¦ Im not saying you have to follow macros or necessarily count calories everyday but be aware and #knowyourfood It'll make your goals a reality a lot sooner than you thinkβ¦ I could easily eat 1000 calories of nuts in one sitting without thinking twiceβ¦ Seriously though who can just stop at a few?? I know I canβt... π€¦π»ββοΈ . 100 calories gets you... . 3 / 15g Brazil Nuts 14 / 17g Almonds 5 / 14g Pecans 11 / 18g Cashews 4 / 15g Walnuts 5 / 14g Macadamias 21 / 18g Unshelled Pistachios 10 /16g Hazelnuts So whats your favourite nut?? Any enchilada lovers here??? π Tag friends that must try this! π€€ . Whatβs for dinner tonight? I know what Iβm having! This enchilada recipe is heaven! Itβs so easy, filling and delicious, I could eat it almost every day. If you watched my egg white pizza video (2 posts below), itβs a similar technique, but this is a fun and yummy twist. . . To make the enchilada. INGREDIENTS: - 1 cup liquid egg whites - About 1/3 of a cooked chicken breast, shredded - 1/4 salsa (fun fact: salsa has a third of the calories compared to enchilada sauce - 2 tablespoons of shredded cheese (I used dairy free cheese by @daiya but you can use any) - 1/4 cup of beans (optional) - Chopped cilantro & hot sauce (optional) . DIRECTIONS: - Turn stovetop to medium heat. - Spray a large skillet with nonstick spray. I recommend using a large flat griddle (typically user for quesadillas or pancakes). - Pour egg whites and swirl around so thereβs a large even surface. - In the meantime, you can prepare the other ingredients or make a side salad like I did. - As the eggs begin to settle and become opaque, use a spatula to expose more liquid egg white to the pan. - Once you have a solid, large βtortilla,β slide it out onto a large surface like a cutting board and let cool. - Fill with the chicken, salsa, half the cheese, and beans and cilantro (if using). - Start by rolling in the sides, then roll up like a wrap. - Add additional salsa if youβd like and remaining cheese on top. .
