CW: Depression The majority of 2020 was one of the darkest spirals in my life. Everything i had set up for elevating my acting career was gone in a flash, and after dashing my head against rock bottom too many times, I decided to switch gears and focus on things outside of performance. A few years ago, I started writing interweaving short stories bearing the title Spiritus Sororum. They centered around a magical academy specifically for women and queer individuals. It was a safe space in my mind for the type of stories I wanted to see out in the world. Although my wavering confidence cut the writing short, I thought that I could embark on my first drawing adventure outside of a school setting. I visualized all of the characters in three different looks and worked on them for several months. I finally feel like it's time to share them, and hopefully shed my reclusive skin to inspire someone else to work on that project they've been putting off for a while. The characters I have thus far are Duniya from Osogbo, Kopiro from Opua, Hotaru from Tokyo, Nasim from Lahore, Estrella from Valencia, Talti from Buncrana, and Genesse, a two-spirit Native American who not only runs the academy near Ithaca, but also owns the land that it was built on. I've already started 3D modeling the characters to possibly put them into an animation or video game at some point, but that's another beast entirely. I hope you enjoy them, and that the new year will bring us all a little more light. Special shoutout to @ohheydj for inspiring me with their art throughout the pandemic. https://www.instagram.com/p/CJt6jHgFPE_/?igshid=1b95r7wugfin4
