Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day? You waaayyy hotter.

Ummm Queen of the Tearling had some of the worst world building I have ever read.  Where was this land supposed to be? They supposedly traveled across water with their advanced technology, to reach a new world, but they lost their advanced technology along the way. So are they still on Earth? That seems to be the implication, because they have LOTR and Harry Potter books.  (plus the idea that you can't read the Lord of the Rings until after you've read The Hobbit is ridiculous and untrue!) So not a different world altogether.  But supposedly some undiscovered land accessible by water... I mean that makes no sense.  Its not plausible, and its given no explanation whatsoever.  I kept waiting for the world building reveal that would allow the book to make sense and it never came.  You just can't set up a world like that and NOT give it proper background explanation.  Beyond, they brought 20th century fantasy novels with them on a boat, but all the doctors and engineers and people who know things about technology past the 18th century on the boat drowned.  Right. Because that's how things work.
