Joy that I wonât have to endure those sleepless nights for long
Joy that only the rain can bring
Joy that I never felt with you
Though we had good times
That wasnât enough
When the rain touches me
I feel light and seen
But when I have to beg to be seen
It just makes me feel more invisible
And ignored
So on those sleepless nights wish for rain
On those dark days wish for rain
And in those happy moments wish for rain
Because rain isnât just for sadness
But rain brings joy to those who wish.

âI really think sheâs starting to settle in here,â Vi says, as she flips back the duvet on the bed and slides under it. âShe seems to be a lot more comfortable now.âÂ
âI think so too,â Caitlyn hums, taking off her reading glasses and setting the book she was reading aside. âShe was out like a light.âÂ
âSo adorable,â Vi chuckles, a fond smile making the corners of eyes crinkle.Â
âVery much so.âÂ
âSheâs grown on you, huh?â Vi props her head up with a bent arm and studies Caitlyn. âOnly took a few days.âÂ
Caitlyn gives Vi a small smile. âI suppose so. She isnât what I expected. I thought a little would be more trouble than she is.âÂ
âSheâs the sweetest little thing,â Vi agrees. âI canât believe she doesnât already have a caregiver, actually.âÂ
âMhm, sheâs quite shy and doesnât get out much, so perhaps thatâs why.âÂ
âMaybe,â Vi says, flopping over onto her back and staring up at the ceiling. Caitlyn watches her for a moment, she can practically see the gears turning in Viâs mind.Â
âWhat is it, love?â Caitlyn asks softly.Â
Vi sighs, facing her again. âI justâŚI like having her here.âÂ
âAs do I.âÂ
âI meanâŚwhat if it didnât have to be temporary?âÂ
âYou meanâŚ?âÂ
âYeah, Cait. Tell me you havenât thought about it,â Vi implores, her light blue eyes searching Caitlynâs. âAbout her being ours.âÂ
âThe thought has crossed my mind,â Caitlyn admits, pinching her bottom lip between her fingers thoughtfully. âBut itâs too soon, donât you think? And weâve never discussed having a permanent third before. I wouldnât want anyone to come between us.âÂ
Caitlyn reaches out for Viâs hand, running her thumb over her knuckles. âYou matter too much to me darling, to sacrifice what we have.âÂ
âThatâs the thing, though, I donât think she would come between us,â Vi says, a slight frown creasing her eyebrows as she thinks. âShe kind of justâŚadds to us, you know?âÂ
Caitlyn nods with a quiet hum. âIt does seem that we both laugh a lot more when sheâs around. And you seem to enjoy having someone to take care of.âÂ
âYou do too,â Vi grins, raising her eyebrows knowingly. âI donât think Iâve seen you this soft before, ever.âÂ
âOh, hush,â Caitlyn swats at her arm lightly, but sheâs smiling. âIâm not soft.âÂ
âSure, cupcake,â Vi smirks, leaning forward to kiss her. âLetâs think about it, yeah?âÂ
âAgreed. I still think we should give her more time to settle in, though.âÂ
âFair enough. Letâs see how it goes,â Vi stretches and yawns, burrowing deeper under the covers.Â
âTime for you to sleep, love,â Caitlyn smiles softly, switching out the light on her bedside table and joining Vi under the covers.Â
Vi turns and spoons Caitlyn from behind, assuming their usual sleeping position. âI love you,â Vi murmurs, kissing the back of Caitlynâs neck.Â
The following morning you wake up with a throbbing pain in your lower belly. You groan as you shift in bed, trying to get more comfortable â youâre not ready to wake up yet. But the pain doesnât abate, so you sit up with a quiet moan and put a hand on your abodmen.Â
You rub sleep out of your eyes, blinking hard. A quick glance at your phone tells you that you slept later than you intended, itâs almost nine now. You donât want Caitlyn or Vi to think youâre lazy, so youâve been trying to get up early around they same time they do. But you must have slept through your alarm this morning.Â
You groan again as another wave of pain passes through your stomach, and you suddenly realize why youâre hurting. Crap. Your period. Normally you keep better track of your cycle, but with all the craziness of the past few days, it slipped your mind.Â
Slightly hunched over from the discomfort, you shuffle out of bed. But then as you turn to straighten the blankets, your stomach drops.
Thereâs a bright red stain in the middle of the white, crisp bedsheets.Â
Tears immediately fill your eyes as you stare at the stain, your pulse thumming hard in your veins. You already feel the edges of panic creeping into your chest, and you try to even out your breathing. Youâve just ruined their sheets. Theyâre going to kick you out. Theyâre going to hate you.
You try to tell yourself itâs not true, but the mean voice in your head is too loud to ignore. You let out a small whimper and hurry into the bathroom, shutting the door behind yourself. You crouch down, burying your head between your knees as quiet sobs start shuddering out of you. Your head is spinning and you canât think straight, canât even think of what to do.Â
Then you remember your medicine and you stand shakily, wobbling over to the sink and finding the bottle of medication youâre supposed to take for panic attacks. You struggle to get the bottle open, but eventually you do and pop a pill into your mouth. You cup your hands under the sink and swallow some water to chase it down.
You sink back down to the floor, rocking back and forth as you wait for the medicine to kick in.Â
After what seems like hours, but is probably just minutes, your thoughts slow down and your heartbeat returns to a normal pace. You feel exhausted and small, as you always do after a panic attack, but you fight off the pull of littlespace. You need to get cleaned up and figure out how to get rid of the stain before Caitlyn or Vi finds out.Â
Logically, you know that the women have shown you nothing but kindness since youâve been here. But thereâs still that part of you that finds it so hard to believe that things could actually be good, that you wonât be punished for a mistake like this. You figure itâs better not to tell them, instead of risking it.Â
You take a quick shower, putting on fresh clothes and folding some toilet paper into your underwear. You donât have any pads, and youâre too embarrassed to ask for any, so youâll have to figure out how to go get some today.Â
Then you pull the sheets off the bed and take them into the bathroom, scrubbing them hard in the sink. It takes several minutes but eventually the red splotch starts to fade to a faint brown mark. You arenât able to get it out completely, but you leave the sheets soaking in the sink, figuring you can work on it more later. Then you pull the blankets back up over the stripped mattress, so no one will notice the sheets are missing.Â
Honestly, you just want to crawl back into bed and hide the rest of the day, since itâs been such a terrible morning already. But you wouldnât want Vi or Caitlyn to suspect anything.Â
Thereâs a knock on the bedroom door, and you jump slightly.Â
âY/N? Are you awake?â Vi calls through the door.Â
âOh - um, yeah!â you hurry over and open the door, trying to school your face into a neutral expression.Â
Vi is leaning against the doorframe when you open the door, looking unfairly attractive in a tight tank top and gym shorts.Â
She smiles down at you. âHey sweetie. Iâm just heading out to work, wanted to check on you first. You slept in late today, did you sleep okay?âÂ
You nod, trying to look less miserable than you feel. âYeah, just a late start today, sorry.âÂ
âNo need to be sorry,â Vi soothes, tucking some hair behind your ear. She frowns slightly at you. âYouâre looking a little pale. Are you feeling okay, sweetheart?âÂ
âIâm fine,â you assure, giving another rushed nod. âI just need to eat, probably,â you lie.Â
âOkay,â Vi says, although thereâs still a hint of frown on her face. âWell, remember to tell us if you need anything, alright? Caitlyn is going to work from home again today, and thereâs waffles and bacon waiting for you in the kitchen.âÂ
âOkay, thank you,â you say quietly, looking down at the floor. You feel bad for lying, but youâre also too anxious to tell Vi the truth.Â
Vi studies you, looking like she wants to ask you more questions. But then she glances at the phone in her hand with a grimace.Â
âAh â Iâm late, gotta go. Tell Cait if you need anything,â Vi repeats, kissing you on the forehead and jogging down the hall.Â
You watch her go, kind of feeling you want to cry again.Â
After breakfast, you decide you need to make a trip to the drugstore for period supplies and painkillers. You still have terrible cramps, and theyâre distracting enough that you canât get any work done.Â
You ate breakfast with Caitlyn but you havenât seen her since, the other woman having explained that she had a busy day packed full of meetings. She said you could interrupt anytime if you needed to, but thereâs no way youâd want to disturb her while sheâs working.Â
You gather up your wallet and phone, slipping both into your small purse, and tiptoe past the closed door to Caitlynâs office. You can faintly hear her talking about something that sounds very businessy and important, which probably means she wonât hear you leave.Â
You sneak out the front door, closing it very softly behind yourself. You make sure to lock up â Vi and Caitlyn gave you a key on your first day â and head off down the street. You canât help but feel guilty about leaving without telling Caitlyn, but you rationalize itâs for the best. You can just get this taken care of, and neither Caitlyn or Vi need to be any wiser.Â
Itâs about a thirty-minute walk to the nearest store. Luckily the weather is fairly decent today, so youâre not too cold. You hurriedly get the supplies you need and also a bar of chocolate, because obviously you need chocolate on your period. You walk home with your plastic bag of supplies as fast as you can, hoping that Caitlyn hasnât noticed youâre gone.Â
Your cramps have intensifed by the time you make it home, and youâre looking forward to taking some meds and maybe curling up on the sofa for the rest of the day.Â
Once you reach the front door, you twist your key in the lock and tentatively push the front door open, trying to keep quiet.Â
But the next thing you know, youâre being whisked inside by a pair of firm hands.Â
âOh my god, are you alright? Where have you been? Iâve been out of my mind with worry!â Caitlyn exclaims, her eyes wide, a look of terror on her face that youâve never seen before. âWhy didnât you answer my calls? Where did you go? Are you hurt?âÂ
âI â Iâm fine,â you stammer in shock. Youâve never seen Caitlyn like this before. She looks absolutely panicked, pale and her eyes as round as saucers. She looks you up and down several times, as if checking for injuries, then tugs you into her chest for a hug so tight it nearly squeezes all the air out of you.Â
âOh my goodness, you have no idea how worried I was when I couldnât find you,â Caitlyn breathes, murmuring into the top of your hair as she holds you close. âI must have called you two dozen times.âÂ
You grimace, reaching into your handbag and pulling out your phone. You realize it was on silent and you hadnât bothered to check it while you were out, since you donât get a ton of messages anyway. âIâm really sorry,â you say, your stomach sinking with guilt.Â
You never thought Caitlyn would be this worried if she found out you left. Honestly, the intensity of her reaction is surprising to you. You hadnât thought she cared this much about you.Â
âNever, ever, do that again,â Caitlyn admonishes, pulling back from the hug and frowning at you. âYou nearly gave me a heart attack, darling. Where did you go?âÂ
You hold up the plastic bag guilty. âUmâŚthe drugstore? I kinda had to get some stuff?â you say nervously, biting your lip.Â
Caitlynâs frown deepens. âWhat did you need? You know you can ask us for anything, love.âÂ
You sigh, figuring thereâs no point in hiding the truth now. âUm, I got my period. I needed pads and medicine,â you admit, blushing and looking down at your feet.Â
âOh, sweetheart,â Caitlyn says softly, reaching for your jaw and bringing your gaze up to meet hers. âDarling, you donât need to be ashamed of that. We have plenty of supplies here you can use. You should have just told me.âÂ
You shrug, still embarrassed. âIâm sorry,â you repeat. âI thought you guys might be madâŚI ââ you hesitate, feeling tears burn your eyes. âI ruined the sheets.âÂ
âOh, little love,â Caitlyn sighs, pulling you into her arms again, the hug gentler this time. âIâm sorry you felt like you couldnât tell us that. We would never be mad at you for something like that, darling girl. Itâs happened to us plenty of times.âÂ
You nod into her shoulder, feeling anxiety start retreat as youâre reassured and held in her arms.Â
Caitlyn lets out a long breath, and feel some of the tension release out of her tight shoulders. âAlright. Weâll have a discussion later about the rules, love. But letâs get you taken care of right now,â she says, wiping a stray tear off your cheek. âWhy donât you head into the bathroom and get yourself all settled, and Iâll bring up some fresh sheets?âÂ
âDonât you have work to do?â you ask shyly, looking up at her.Â
âYouâre more important than my work,â Caitlyn says firmly, putting a hand on your back to guide you in the direction of the stairs. âDonât worry about that, love. I can take care of myself.âÂ
You nod, feeling comforted as Caitlyn gently guides you up the stairs and to the bedroom.Â
After you use the bathroom, you return to the bedroom to see Caitlyn smoothing a neatly laid set of pastel-pink sheets on the bed. She finishes making the bed, fluffing up the pillows, and turns to smile at you.Â
âThere, all better, darling,â she says. âHow are you feeling?âÂ
You hesitate to answer, still feeling shy about telling the truth. But Caitlynâs eyes are kind and patient as she waits for you to reply, and you feel your walls come crumbling down. You canât resist the pull to be little and be taken care of, like youâve desperately wanted all morning. And with Caitlyn looking at you with so much tenderness, you feel your headspace slip almost immediately.Â
âMy tummy hurts,â you whine, your voice going small. You put a hand on your abdomen and wince as another cramp rolls through you.Â
âOh, poor love,â Caitlyn coos gently, beckoning you over to her. She wraps her arms around you, kissing your hair and rubbing your back. âDid you take any medicine yet?âÂ
You shake your head no against her shoulder, cuddling in close to her, soaking up her warmth.Â
âOkay, little darling,â Caitlyn hums, leading you over to the bed and patting it. âI want you to get comfy here, and Iâll bring you some things to help you feel better, alright?âÂ
You nod, grabbing your two stuffies and hugging them tight, settling on the bed. Caitlyn gives you a fond smile, and retrieves a paci from your bedside table. She puts it in your mouth and you make a happy noise, already starting to feel soothed from the comfort of sucking on it.Â
She gives you a peck on the forhead before heading out of the room. You curl up on the bed with your stuffies, pulling a blanket over yourself and letting your mind drift. You feel small, and even though youâre still in pain, you feel safe knowing that Caitlyn will take care of you.Â
It doesnât take long for Caitlyn to return, carrying an electric heating pad, a glass of water, and bottle of liquid medicine. You can also see several picture books tucked under her arm.Â
After setting everything down, she plugs the heating pad into the outlet near the bed and brings it over to you, smoothing a hand over your blanket-covered shoulder.Â
âCan you sit up for me a little, sweetheart? You can lay back down in just a moment.âÂ
You nod, shifting to an upright position, and Caitlyn gives you another kiss to your hair. âGood job, little one,â she says, and you feel happy that you earned her praise.Â
âOkay, this will help your poor achy tummy.â Catilyn settles the heating pad on your lower abdomen. You immediately feel some of the painful tightness in your lower belly ease. âAnd Iâm going to give you a little medicine that will help as well.âÂ
âNo medâcin,â you pout, shaking your head at the bottle of purple liquid that Caitlyn is holding. âYucky.âÂ
âDarling, I know medicine is no fun, but you need take this,â Caitlyn sighs, uncapping the bottle and pouring a dose out into the measuring cup. âIf youâre a good girl and take your medicine, afterward you can have some ice cream. How does that sound?âÂ
âChocolate?â you ask hopefully.Â
âYes, baby girl, chocolate,â Caitlyn chuckles quietly, then holds the plastic cup of medicine to your lips. You can smell the cloying, sickly-sweet grape flavor, and you wrinkle your nose, keeping your lips pressed together tightly.Â
âSweetheartâŚâ Caitlyn warns, giving you a stern look.Â
You can see the warning in her eyes, and chocolate ice cream really does sound yummy, so you sigh and let Caitlyn pour the medicine in your mouth. You swallow it quickly, grimacing, and Caitlyn hands you the glass of water to wash it down.Â
âGood girl,â Caitlyn hums, giving you another forehead kiss. âThat will help you feel better. Now, do you want sprinkles on your ice cream?âÂ
You nod excitedly, bouncing in bed slightly. âYes please!âÂ
âOkay, honey. You stay right here and rest up, and Iâll be right back with your ice cream.â Caitlyn gives you another warm smile before collecting the medicine and heading out of the room.Â
Soon, Caitlyn returns holding a bowl with two large scoops of ice cream covered in an array of multicolored sprinkles. You take the bowl happily, digging in with gusto and spooning a huge scoop of chocolate ice cream into your mouth.Â
âWoah, slow down, sweetie!â Caitlyn cautions, as you take another big bite. Then you cry out, dropping the spoon and grabbing at your head.Â
âAww, brain freeze?â Caitlyn hums sympathetically, taking the bowl into her own hands. âYou ate too fast little darling. How about I help you?âÂ
You nod, wincing at the receding pain in your head. Caitlyn carefully scoops up a small spoon of ice cream and holds it out to you, and you swallow it. You start to feel even smaller as Caitlyn continues to feed you, and it makes your chest feel all happy and warm.Â
After you finish the ice cream, Caitlyn cozies up next to you and wraps an arm around your shoulder so that you can lean into her side. She picks up one of the books she brought with her and starts reading, her voice low and soothing. You love the way her accent makes some of the words sound funny, and she even does some different voices for the characters. Before long, your cramps and the anxiety of the morning are all but forgotten.Â
Caitlyn puts you down for a nap after she finishes reading to you, and itâs a couple hours later by the time you wake up. Youâre feeling a lot better â the cramps are mostly gone, and your head is much clearer.Â
You head downstairs and into the kitchen. There, you find Caitlyn sitting at the kitchen table typing away on her laptop, and Vi cooking something on the stove.Â
âHi, sweetheart,â Vi smiles when she spots you, coming over to give you a big hug. âHow did you sleep?âÂ
âGood,â you say, hugging her back and clinging to her for a few moments. You love Viâs hugs, you always feel so safe in her arms. âIsnât it early for you to be home?â you ask, when you pull apart.Â
âI took a half day,â Vi explains, going back to the stove. âI heard you and Cait had a very eventful morning. Both of us are a little worried about you, and we have some things to discuss.âÂ
âAm I in trouble?â you ask nervously, playing with a bracelet on your wrist.Â
Vi gives you a soft look. âYou broke a rule honey, so yes, in a sense. But weâre not angry with you, okay?âÂ
Your heart starts pounding and you gulp anxiously. You feel a little like running away and going to hide. Viâs voice is still gentle and kind, and she doesnât seem mad. But thereâs guilt sickening your stomach, and the nasty voice in the back of your head tells you that they donât want you anymore. You stand in the middle of the kitchen, your breaths starting to come faster and your chest starts feeling tight. Are you going to be kicked out? Where will you go? You canât imagine leaving all the safety and comfort youâve felt the past few days here. Anywhere else will feel so cold and empty compared to this, and the thought makes you panic.Â
âDarling,â Caitlynâs gentle yet commanding voice cuts through your thought spiral. You glance over at her and see that sheâs set aside her laptop and is giving you an assessing look. âCome here, please.â She pats her lap.Â
You obediently come over and settle on her lap, and she wraps her arms around you, cuddling you into her chest.Â
âDeep breaths,â Caitlyn reminds you softly, rubbing slow circles in your back. âLetâs take one together, little love.â She takes an exaggerated breath in, holding your gaze, and you follow.Â
âGood girl,â Caitlyn hums, kissing your temple. âNow,â she gently tips face to hers. âWhy donât you tell us what thoughts are going through that little head of yours, hm?âÂ
Vi comes over and sits down next the two of you, putting a bowl of mac and cheese on the table. She kisses your hair, her face creased with soft concern.Â
âI, um ââ you hesitate, your throat thick with unshed tears. You swallow hard, and a tear slips down your cheek. âDo you not want me anymore?â Your voice is shaky and quiet.Â
âOh, sweet girl, no, thatâs not it all,â Vi frowns, scooting closer and rubbing your arm soothingly. âWeâre not going anywhere, promise.âÂ
Caitlyn nods in agreement, wiping the tears falling down your face with a napkin. âWe still very much want you here,â she affirms, and you can see the honesty in her deep blue eyes. âDo you know why we gave you rules?âÂ
âSo Iâll behave?â you gulp.Â
âThatâs not what our rules are about,â Caitlyn corrects you, her voice tender and soft. âWe gave you rules because we care about your health and safety, darling. And we care about our own health and saftey, as well. Thatâs what the rules are about â taking care of you, and taking care of ourselves. We didnât give you rules just because weâre on some power trip. You have rules because we want to take care of you, and we need boundaries in order to do that.âÂ
You rub at your watery eyes with a fist, looking up at her. âYouâre not mad?âÂ
âWeâre not mad at all, sweetheart,â Vi jumps in, tipping your face toward hers. You can see the gentleness in her powder blue eyes too. âWe are going to give you a punishment because you broke the rules, but itâs not because weâre mad. Itâs because we care about you, and we need you to know that we mean what we say. Do you understand?âÂ
You nod slowly, trying to process her words. You thought that punishments would feel terrible. You do feel bad about disappointing them, but you also feel comforted that they care enough about you to enforce the rules. It makes sense, and helps ease some of your anxiety.Â
âNow, darling,â Caitlyn says, spooning you a bite of mac and cheese. She waits for you to swallow before continuing. âDo you remember the rules we gave you? Repeat them for us please.âÂ
âNo disturbing you when your door is closed, and discretion and understanding,â you say, looking down at your lap. âI have to tell you when I go out and when Iâm coming back, and I have to tell you if I need anything.âÂ
âGood job, sweet girl,â Vi says with a nod. âNow, which rules did you break?âÂ
âI didnât tell you I needed stuff for my period,â you admit, blushing slightly. âAnd I went out without telling you.âÂ
âThatâs correct,â Caitlyn affirms, patting your back lightly. She gives you another spoonful of mac and cheese. âAnd do you remember the punishment we discussed?âÂ
âWriting lines,â you say, after you finish chewing.Â
âIs that still okay with you as a punishment?â Vi asks, studying you. âWe will never punish you in a way that makes you uncomfortable, baby girl.âÂ
âThatâs okay,â you nod.Â
âAlright, good girl,â Caitlyn says. âLetâs have you finish your lunch, and then weâll sort out your punishment.âÂ
Vi and Caitlyn take turns spoon-feeding you the rest of the mac and cheese, and your anxiety ebbs aways as you truly start to understand that they arenât angry. Theyâre treating you with just as much kindness as they always do. Knowing that they mean the rules, and will enforce them, does make your little side happy. You know youâll be able to ask for things easier in the future, because you really do know that they mean it. Sometimes itâs not easy for you to believe peopleâs words, but Vi and Caitlyn clearly mean what they say, and thatâs so comforting to you.Â
After you finish lunch, Vi cleans up and Caitlyn sets a yellow legal pad in front of you, flipped to a blank page.Â
âOkay, little girl,â Caitlyn says, sitting down and handing you a pen. âI would like you to write âI will follow the rules because they are important for my wellbeing,â one hundred times. Each line should be numbered and I expect neat handwriting. Understand?âÂ
You nod, and Caitlyn presses a kiss to your cheek.Â
âGood. Vi will supervise you, as I have some work to get done. Remember â we give you punishments because we care about you and want to look after you, not because weâre mad at you,â she says firmly, holding your gaze to make sure youâre listening.Â
âI understand,â you say, giving another nod. âThank you.âÂ
âThatâs our job, honey,â Caitlyn says, giving you a quick hug before standing up. Vi sets down the dishcloth she was using to wipe a dish and comes over to you.Â
âGo ahead and start writing, sweetie,â Vi encourages. âThe sooner you finish, the sooner you can have playtime.âÂ
You lean over the paper and start writing the phrase Caitlyn gave you, taking care to make your writing as neat as you can.Â
By the time you get to line fourty, your hand is starting to cramp up and youâre desperately bored.Â
âBubba, itâs too many lines,â you whine petulantly, looking over at her with big eyes. âCanât write anymore.âÂ
Vi sets down the book she was reading to give you a level look. âSweetheart, your punishment is one hundred lines. You can take a break if your hand hurts, but you need to write all of them,â she says, her voice firm.Â
âDonna wanna,â you pout, putting down the pen. âItâs boooring.âÂ
Viâs lips quirk up a little, but she stays firm. âItâs not supposed to be fun, thatâs why itâs a punishment. Now, if I hear any more whining itâs going to be one hundred and twenty lines, understand, little one?âÂ
Your eyes widen in horror. You definitely donât want to add twenty more lines! One hundred is bad enough. You nod sullenly and get back to writing.Â
It seems to take forever, but eventually you finish all one hundred lines. You give a deep sigh when you finish the last one, pushing the pad of paper over toward Vi. You definitely donât want to break anymore rules if it means you have to do that again.Â
Vi scans the pages, flipping through the legal pad. âGood girl,â Vi says, once sheâs read through all the lines. She gives you a squeeze around the shoulders and forehead kiss. âThis looks good. Weâll just get Caitlynâs approval, and if she agrees, then your punishment is complete.âÂ
With your hand gently clasped in hers, Vi leads you to Caitlynâs office and knocks on the closed door.Â
Caitlyn calls for you to come in, and you see her standing at her fancy sit-stand desk setup, with two monitors full of what looks like important, complicated information.Â
âDid she finish?â Caitlyn asks, minimizing the work on her screen and turning to face you all. She gestures for Vi to hand the writing pad over.Â
She scans the pages thoughtfully, and you cross your fingers behind your back, hoping you wonât have to write anymore.Â
âThese are fine,â Caitlyn says finally, giving you a smile. âGood job, little love. Your punishment is finished.âÂ
âYay!â you cheer, doing a little happy dance on the spot that makes both Vi and Caitlyn chuckle. âCan I go color, please?âÂ
âYes, sweet girl,â Vi grins. âIâll help you get out the supplies.âÂ
You spend the rest of the afternoon in littlespace, coloring, watching Bluey, and having dino nuggets for dinner. Itâs a lot of fun, and you feel nice and relaxed by the time itâs bedtime. Both Vi and Caitlyn read you stories in bed before you go sleep, until your eyes start drooping and your head falls on Caitlynâs shoulder. They tuck you in bed after that, and you drift off into an easy sleep.Â
Caitlyn wakes with a start, blinking rapidly. Sheâs always been a very light sleeper, so at first sheâs not sure what woke her up.Â
But then she hears it. A low, strained whine echoes down the hallway, from the direction of your room.
She switches on the light and gets out of bed. Sheâs got her house slippers on and her silk robe wrapped around her before she even realizes what sheâs doing.Â
âVi! Wake up,â Caitlyn says urgently, coming around the bed to shake her wifeâs shoulder.Â
Vi, whoâs sprawled out on her front across the mattress, wakes up with a snort. âWhaâs happeninâ?â she slurs, blinking blearily.Â
âItâs Y/N, somethingâs wrong,â Caitlyn says, already striding out of the room while Vi wakes the rest of the way up.Â
Caitlyn hurries down the dark hallway to your room, pushing open the door they had left cracked. Thereâs a nightlight plugged into the wall thatâs casting dim, purple light over the room, and Caitlyn squints to try to get a good look at you. She comes over to your bedside and flips on the light on the table, her heart clenching with worry once she can see you properly.Â
Youre face is scrunched up in distress as you twist and moan in the bed, your eyes squeezed tightly shut. Youâre clearly stuck in the throes of a terrible dream, and Caitlyn knows she needs to wake you up immediately.Â
Vi jogs into the room, looking much more awake now. âFuck, is she okay?â Vi swears, joining Caitlyn at the bedside. You continue to move around in your sleep, moaning again.Â
âShe must be having a nightmare,â Caitlyn says, reaching forward to cup a hand to your cheek. âDarling. I need you to wake up.â Her voice is soft yet intense as she focuses on waking you up, running her thumb over your cheek. âYouâre dreaming love, wake up.âÂ
Vi reaches out too, and gives your shoulder a gentle shake. âCâmon baby,â Vi mutters worridedly. âWake up.âÂ
With a sharp gasp, your eyes fly open and you shoot straight up in bed. Both Vi and Caitlyn keep a hand on you, steadying you. Youâre breathing hard, your chest heaving, and your hair is stuck to your forehead with sweat. Your eyes are wide with fear as they flick around the room, almost as if you canât see the two women holding you steady.Â
âDarling. Sweetheart,â Caitlyn cups your face again, forcing your eyes to meet. âLook at me. Youâre safe. Weâre right here,â she soothes, her eyes fixed on yours.Â
You shudder with more heaving breaths, looking into her comforting gaze, and slowly shaking off the remnants of your terrible nightmare. Suddenly, your eyes fill with tears, and you fling yourself into Caitlynâs arms, holding onto her for dear life.
You start sobbing loudly, as both panic and fear overtake you. You had dreamt that you were all alone, that they had left you on the side of the street. You cling to Caitlyn as you try to come back to reality, but you can still feel the sick, terrifying loneliness of the nightmare.Â
âGive her to me,â Vi says, when you continue to cry inconsolably into Caitlynâs shoulder despite the soothing words sheâs murmuring to you. Vi pulls you into her own lap and stands up, holding you under your bottom while you wrap your arms tightly around her neck, face buried in her chest. You cling to her like a koala as she slowly starts walking around the room in circles, bouncing you slightly and shushing you.Â
It helps a little, but you still feel totally overwhelmed, and youâre still wailing. But then Vi starts singing to you softly, and you immediately quieten. Her voice is so beautiful and melodic, and the gentle lullaby sheâs singing wraps you in warmth, bringing that sense of safety youâve been so desperately needing.Â
She keeps singing to you, her voice low with her mouth right next to your ear, while she walks around the room with you held in her arms. At some point, Caitlyn manages to slip a pacifier into your mouth and cleans up your face with a washcloth, before you bury your head back in Viâs shoulder again. She sings to you for several minutes, bouncing you slightly, rubbing your back, and holding you close. Once youâve completely stopped crying and are only sniffling quietly, she sits back down in the bed with you in her lap.Â
You feel Caitlynâs warm, gentle hand on your back and she presses a kiss to the back of your hair.Â
âThere you go, little love,â Caitlyn soothes, running her fingers through your hair. âYouâre alright now. Everything is alright.âÂ
You lift your head from Viâs shoulder and reach your arms out for Caitlyn. She takes you into her own lap and you make a happy noise, leaning your head on her collarbone.Â
And then before you can think better of it, a word slips out of your mouth. âMommy,â you hum, nuzzling in further to her.Â
You hear Caitlyn take a sharp breath in and you jerk upright. Your eyes find hers and thereâs a moment where she just stares at you with a open-mouthed surprise. You feel tears return to your eyes again, and your lip starts to wobble. Youâre just about to start crying again when suddenly, a warm, bright smile lights up Caitlynâs entire face. You can see her eyes fill with tears, but she looks happier than youâve ever seen her.Â
âYes, darling,â Caitlyn murmurs, brushing her thumb over your cheek, kissing your forehead tenderly. âYes, Mommyâs here.âÂ
Your breath hitches uncertainly. âMommy?â you mumble, unsure.Â
âYes, Iâm your Mommy,â Caitlyn soothes, pulling you into her chest again, and you let yourself melt into her arms. âMommyâs right here, little darling. Mommyâs got you.âÂ
You hum happily, suddenly everything feeling right in the world. But then you look up, your eyes finding Vi.Â
âMama?â you ask quietly.Â
Vi has tears in her eyes too, and she lights up with a grin not unlike Caitlynâs.Â
âYeah, baby girl. Mamaâs here too,â Vi smiles, reaching for your cheek and smoothing her fingers across your cheekbone. âMamaâs right here, sweet girl.âÂ
You smile too. âMamaâŚMommy,â you babble, letting your head drop down heavily again. Caitlyn tightens her arms around you, and Vi rubs soothing circles on your back.Â
You close your eyes happily. You have everything you ever wanted.Â

Summary: After an intense night together, Frank finds you trying to do aftercare by yourself. What starts as confusion turns into quiet rage and aching tenderness when he realizes youâve always had to take care of yourself. That ends tonight. Because Frank Castle doesnât let the woman, he loves float alone in space
xoxoxo
Your thighs were still trembling.
You couldnât move without shakingâhell, you could barely breathe right. Your skin was flushed, sensitive, and your head felt like it was floating somewhere between reality and the stars. Everything echoed. Every touch still lingered like fire. Every whisper Frank had growled against your skin replayed like a prayer.
You were limp on the bed, sheets soaked beneath your hips, mouth parted, eyes hazy. Floating. Blinking fast like that would pull you down from orbit.
And yetâwith what little strength you hadâyou stirred. Reached out. Fumbled blindly for the towel abandoned after Frankâs shower. Youâd done this a hundred times before. Clean yourself. Ground yourself. Take care of the mess alone, like always.
Frank had collapsed beside you minutes ago, panting and sweat-drenched. But as soon as you moved, he blinked at you, brows knitting.
âWhere you goinâ, baby?â
âJust⌠cleanup,â you whispered. Your voice was floaty. Far away. âItâs okay. I got it.â
Frank pushed up on his elbow, eyes narrowing as he watched you shake your way through some kind of ritual he didnât recognize. Water bottle. Wipes. The shaking of your fingers. The dissociation in your eyes.
âThe fuck you doing?â he asked. Not harsh. Just sharp. Alarmed.
You blinked at him, confused by the question. âI always do this. Iâm fine. I promise. Iâm used to itââ
âWhat?â
Frank sat up completely. The mattress dipped. You stilled.
Then, soft as a confession, âNo oneâs ever really⌠done aftercare. I usually just do it myself.â
You meant it casually. Like it didnât matter. But the shame was already creeping in, burning at your throat.
Frank froze.
Then, voice low and dangerous, âWhat do you mean âno oneâs ever done aftercare for yaâ?â
You swallowed. âThey got what they wanted and would roll over or fall asleep or just leave⌠and Iâd just clean up after, maybe get some water or take a bath if it was bad. Itâs not a big deal. Itâs normal.â
His entire body locked.
You watched him clench his jaw, drag a slow hand over his face like he was trying not to put it through a wall. âFucking hell.â
âFrankieââ
âNo,â he snapped. Then gentled instantly. âNo. Donât. Donât you dare make excuses for that shit, baby. Thatâs not okay. Youâfuck. You donât do that to someone you just wrecked. You donât leave them floatinâ in space tryinâ to put themselves back together.â
You looked down. âItâs not like they were all bad. I just⌠learned to handle it.â
His hand was on your face before you could finishâsteady, warm, grounding. He tilted your chin so youâd look him in the eye.
âYou donât âhandleâ it anymore,â he said firmly. âYou donât take care of yourself after givinâ me your whole fuckinâ body. Iâm the one who took you apartâlet me be the one who puts you back together pumpkin.â
He paused.
âYouâre not fuckinâ doinâ that anymore.â
And thenâjust as quickly as the fire cameâhe softened. His thumb brushed your cheek.
âYouâre floatinâ, baby,â he whispered, kissing your temple. âYouâre still up there. Let me bring you down safely, gently. Let me take care of my girl. â
You nodded, dazed. And when you finally let go, your body slack against the mattress, Frank was already moving.
He picked you upâliterally lifted youâand you instinctively curled against him, burying your face in his chest. His voice dropped low, soothing: âI got you now. Just breathe for me, dollbaby.â
By the time you reached the bathroom, the water was already running.
He climbed in behind you, settled you between his legs, your back to his chest. His arms curled around your waist like armor.
Frank whispered the whole time.
âYou did so good for me.â
âYouâre safe now.â
âYouâre mine. Let me take care of whatâs mine.â
âYouâre not alone in this. You donât have to do shit on your own anymore.â
He washed your hair like you were something holy. Massaged your scalp with calloused fingers, gentle where others had been careless. He kissed the crown of your head after every rinse. Washed your skin with reverence. Whispered love into your shoulders, your knees, the delicate bend of your neck.
When he finally carried you back to bedâdressed in his soft shirt, wrapped in your favorite blanketâyou were no longer floating. Just warm. Heavy. Safe.
He tucked in behind you, pulled you close like he was afraid to let go. One arm locked across your waist. The other cradled your head.
âYou didnât have to do all that,â you mumbled, half-asleep.
His voice came fierce in the dark. âYeah. I did. And I will. Every time.â
You fell asleep to the sound of his heart behind youâsteady, solid. For once, you werenât bracing yourself. You werenât rushing to fix the mess. You were just held.
And Frank?
He didnât sleep at all. He held you for hoursâprocessing, achingâbecause youâd been forced to carry that hurt alone for too long.
And heâd be damned if you ever did again.
