okay but i'm still thinking about the elaborate lore lumon has concocted specifically just for innies. the anthem to kier. the kier chronicles, a publication consisting of entirely doctored photos and fake news. the origin myths about kier making scientific discoveries and exploring the world. even ricken's book, which, after it was discovered by the board, will be abridged into an innie-suitable version.
it goes so far beyond the necessary employee manuals and training material as to be baffling because, like, what's the point? why create culture, literature, and practices bordering on religiosity that will never leave the severed floor? how does this even pertain to their work or their ability to do said work?
but then you remember that innies must take basically any information they receive for granted. the company can tell them they are heroes outside the office. the company can tell them the tallest waterfall in the world is 50 feet. the company can make you work with your outie's seemingly deceased wife for years. and innies have no way to refute these "facts" or "realities." the company saw an opportunity to construct a whole new world for their workers--workers who literally have no choice but to return to work or disappear from existence--and took it. kier is not just a ceo but their god. nothing can be more awe-inspiring than kier. not literature, not nature, not even the mysterious work they do. it's sociopolitical, scientific, and cultural enslavement
