In Perihelion/Rage/secret_lover, Antti Tenetz lets bacteria train an AI (GAN) system to imagine their place among the stars. The installation provides a critical perspective beyond the techno-optimistic promises of AI. Minna Långström’s film installation project Photons of Mars depicts facilities and its workers dedicated to interplanetary research. The work reflects on how their understanding of the Martian landscape becomes more than the sum of the data derived from the photons hitting the cells of the robot’s cameras. Students from AKV/St. Joost pose similar questions. How can you recognise yourself in space data? What is our space body? 10:30-11:30 is a work that anticipates the idea that we see ourselves differently from space than we do in everyday life or through existing media. Is it possible to get to know the individual through technology? Masha Ru presents the Museum of Edible Earth, where you can explore and experience life on Earth versus life on the Moon and Mars through oral engagement with soil samples. Last weekend following the recommendation of @hiisihiitola we travelled with @artemyirudnyi to the village Vershinino, located next to Kenozero, in Arhangelskaya oblast in Russia, to learn more about local paganistic traditions in particular connected with earth. We heard about establishing connection with earth through a traditional round dance. We found three types of clay sold on the Siab market in Samarkand, which were described by the sellers as salty (grey), fat (brown) and neutral (yellow). According to the sellers local clay came from around Samarkand, salty from Tashkent and fat from the east of the country. Everyone recommended salty and fat clay to us.
