the craziest part about john winchester's horrific revenge quest is that his success actually could have saved them, but he failed. which is so evil. like what if your dad in many ways was right, but he just wasn't good enough.

the way the difference between sam killing lilith and sam trapping lucifer is dean's permission is always so crazy to me. like both times they were relying on shady intel, sam drinking crazy amounts of demon blood, sam surpassing strength he's not supposed to, sam fundamentally damning himself to hell in the name of his own monstrosity as his last act of martyrdom. except one time he saves the world and one time he ends it. why? one time his brother wanted him not to and one time he did.

so many of sam's decisions hinge upon this too because this isn't just a coincidence this is the way his universe is functionally set up at this point. this is what the mirrors built themselves around sam for. sam's function as a narrative scapegoat and his core sin being any type of rebellion against his family twisted on an apocalyptic scale only to find ways to correct his actions for in deference. so what he do? he defers.

i think sam drinking demon blood was kinda like how some victims of csa/sa may have a "promiscuous" lifestyle to sorta "rewrite" their trauma in a way they can cope with. sam was seeking a resolution to azazel's violation by reliving the initial trauma in a way that made him feel powerful or as if he were exerting agency. this, to me, makes ruby that much more insidious a villain
