Sometimes I do wonder if some people are aware that not every onscreen social interaction between two characters is about figuring out who is manipulating who.

I think this could be a VERY tragic character study. Dean seeing behaviors he doesn't like reflected in Jack etc etc.

these people will say "hey dont group me in with all the other white/male/cis/TME people, im one of the good ones" without a shred of self-awareness

Honestly at this point, Dean saying "I love you" would be a mild way to put it, how about "I tore open my own skin and carved a piece of myself out so that you could fit in the space I made, cradled in flesh and bone and sinew and blood, and you became as vital to me as a second beating heart"? A little more accurate?
