I rate this book 9/10, it's my new favorite in the series. Rebecca said she took her time with this one and it shows.
- I really enjoyed the world building and fleshing out of the magic/lore that happend in this book. I feel like I have a much better grasp on the gods, political relations, and how magic actually works in this world.
- Violet and Xaden are just 😌🤞 I love their relationship so much. I loved the intimacy that they had in this book. The scene on them together in Deveralli was one of the best sex scenes I've ever read, not even for the spice, but because of how I could literally feel their love for each other through the pages.
- I'm actually glad we didn't get a cure or some magical way to save Xaden in this book. It raises the stakes and shows that magic in this world truly does demand balance, Xaden made his decision and he has to live with it. (With that being said obviously I want/hope there will be a way in future books to save him I'm just glad it's not going to be easy).
- I feel like the dynamics of dragons/riders was a lot more flushed out in this book and I really liked seeing that.
- Dain Aetos would be a freak in the sheets that talked you through it and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.
- The search for the Irid was really interesting, I enjoyed it.
- Maybe I'm just not looking for it but I haven't seen much criticism on this book from fans, which is always a good sign. If anything could be different, I would maybe want more time with the other perspectives. Perhaps Rebecca will add more in for the other books.
Overall, I just thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I fell more in love with the characters, the world, and the story. I can't wait for the next one!
