Carol was, in her core, not great with others. Her bullheaded determination and preference for self-punishment when she felt she failed had alienated far too many over the years. This time, however, she was determined to do better. Kamala wasn't Monica. Carol couldn't get the time she had lost back, but she could make time now.
"It's nothing big," she reassured the younger hero. "Some patrol. I'll have you home by dinner."
"whatever it is--yes, please." carol could have told her they were going to pick up trash and she would still be excited. largely because anything involving carol was a good time, but also because kamala was bored these days. which was weird, because there was so much going on. the limbo of everything was getting to her. life was moving but it didn't really feel like it. "i could probably be a little late." kamala added with a little too much hope in her voice.
