Review: The Lamb by Lucy Rose
The Lamb by Lucy Rose is a gothic, cannibalistic, coming of age story told in the perspective of a 12 year old girl. Margot and her Mama live surrounded by a forrest, waiting for strays to pick up. They sometimes set traps for the strays to get them to their rotting home quicker. The strays are people that have no ties, Mama can smell them. She takes her time with them, likes to make them happy, has no care or shame. They then consume and feast, but it never lasts long enough for Mama's insatiable hunger. A stray comes along that Mama decides is not a stray at all. As Margot starts to change, family dynamics start to change as well.
The writing in this story is poetic and gut wrenching. The descriptions of death, rot, and gore are written like a light melody you are drawn in by instead of something you are disgusted by. The dialogue between Margot and Mama is the most gut wrenching part in the way that the relationship changes between them. Even with both of their flaws and a toxic abusive mother, they both describe woman hood in different ways. Mama is much less relatable to me in her actions and thoughts of life but as a woman, some things she says you can still understand and empathize with. Writing the main character in a perspective of a young girl just sprouting through life and growing into her own opinions was done so easily and no thought felt out of order. There were still the unrealistic ideas we all think while young while also discovering she is different from her Mama.
I recommend this book to everyone but if you have unresolved issues with your mother, buckle up. I gave it 5 stars and would recommend the audio book if that is an option.
can’t believe suzanne collins called north america “a land full of Capitols” in tbosas and set the reaping on the fourth of july and people still don’t get that the hunger games is a critique of american capitalism. how much more direct is she gonna be in sunrise on the reaping.
i finally found the best youtube comment

all these gay girls are like "wow i want a big lady to step on me" but where is the love for short girls stepping on you? short girl intimidating you with her presence and body language alone until you fall over and she steps on you?? short girl taking down a girl who's much taller than her and making her submit??? where's the love for my shadow of the colossus bitches???
WHERE'S THE LOVE FOR GIRLS LIKE THIS

Sketch of Dame as Landsknecht
merrily we roll along just wouldn't work as well told in order. because yeah, it'd be sad to see mary go from a teetotaler to an alcoholic, but it's sadder to only know her as a drunk then suddenly see her younger self refuse a glass of champagne because she doesn't drink. it'd be sad to watch frank throw away what he could have had with mary, but it's sadder to see him go through woman after woman and then hear him say "i've just met the girl i ought to marry." there's something so much more poignant and tragic about learning what it was they lost after they've already lost it. meeting them at their worst and realizing they weren't always that way. that they didn't have to be that way.
merrily we roll along really is the friendship musical of all time. dealing with a friend who's changing and you feel like you're losing them (or maybe already lost them)? franklin shepard inc. in love with your best friend? not a day goes by (reprise). friendship fizzled out? good thing going. regret letting things get to this point? like it was. feel like you're the one who's changing and you don't know if you still fit in? growing up. met someone who you click with immediately and finally feel like you're starting your life? our time. who's like us? damn few.

Having the lines (in Merrily’s opening) be “this is Mary, we go way back” “but seldom forward” and then the show being told backwards, I need to see that Merrily proshot or I’ll Die
Update: saw it. died.
Merrily We Roll Along is constantly winking to the fact that it’s told backwards and I eat it up every time. They say “never look back,” and “never look behind you,” and “We go way back” “But seldom forward,” and “feels like an ending, but it’s really a beginning, right?” and I cheer and clap and hoot and holler.

Remember that I am thy creature; I ought to be thy Adam, but I am rather the fallen angel, whom thou drivest from joy for no misdeed.

loved the new GDT Frankenstein movie and its new take on the story, and got inspired to draw this based on Cabanel's 1847 L'Ange déchu/Fallen Angel painting
