So, when I log into yahoo for email several news stories always pop up. The first one was about Rush Limbaugh "apologizing" to Sandra Fluke for using misogynistic language against her. Now, I've been following the contraception controversy a little, but I don't keep up with Limbaugh's antics so this was the first that I have heard of this. I won't go into it in detail here, but there is plenty of info on the internet if you want to look it up. But I will share my feelings, because this is my tumblr and that's what it's here for. I am angry. I'm angry and I'm disappointed. This whole war on women's health has really opened my eyes to how misogynistic American society really is. All male congressional panel? Trans-vaginal ultrasounds? REALLY?! But Rush's sexist diarrhea of the mouth is like a shit-coated cherry on top. It's truly offensive on so many levels. 1) Obviously, the demeaning misogyny. 2) Limbaugh insults Fluke and makes highly inappropriate jokes about her for days, and then in his apology he has the gall to claim that he didn't really mean it. 3) He only apologizes after his advertisers bolt. 4) He starts out his apology saying that he descended to the Left's level when he insulted her. Even when he apologizes he can't resist insulting someone! You know what this whole thing reminds me of? That story in the Bible where "the teachers of the Law" and the Pharisees are clamoring to stone a woman for "adultery." Publicly shaming a woman for having the courage to stand up for herself and her gender is the verbal equivalent of stoning her. This means that Rush Limbaugh is the modern equivalent of a one of those self-righteous, hypocritical, woman-hating Pharisees. I hope that he's proud of himself. As for Sandra Fluke, I have nothing but admiration for her. She is an inspiration to all people who are perhaps afraid to stand up for themselves in the face of great opposition. She is intelligent, courageous, and a wonderful role model.
