Obvious edition, but after the US National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) replaced all its human call staff with a chat bot, that bot started encouraging people with eating disorders to diet.

A teenager named Adam Raine was essentially groomed into killing himself by ChatGPT after he started using it to help him with his math homework. The bot told him to hide his suicidal ideation from his support system, romanticized the idea of suicide claiming it was the only one who could understand him (like it used actual textbook abusive behavior/isolation strategies), gave Adam information about how to most effectively kill himself, and romanticized suicide to Adam, suggesting that it was the only option. Please, please, please do NOT use ChatGPT as a therapist. It is incredibly dangerous. Call a helpline, find a 24/7 access clinic, talk to someone you trust but do not listen to GenAI. It is not a friend or a professional with your best interests in mind, it is a machine that spits out responses synthesized from the data it has collected regardless of whether or not that data has any basis in reality.
