I was commissioned to make a spearhead in the shape of a great egret
"don't assign human morality to non human things" is so true except when it comes to printers. they know what they are, they understand dilemmas and ethics and morality. they choose to be how they are, they choose to be evil, at their very core they are rotten

This is a tea checkpoint.
Is your tea getting cold?
Did you turn on your kettle and forget about it and now the water is cold again?
Is the tea bag still in?
Did you intend to start the tea making process and forget?
Congratulations! You remember now.

I love how Robby says "we're a safety net, and nets have holes" but then the entire episode is a love letter to nurses and how they keep patients from falling through the cracks. Dana immediately goes and interferes to make sure that Gus is admitted to the hospital. Perlah has the most emotional response to Louie's death, and it's the nurses who are all mourning his loss together. When Roxie is struggling with her bedpan and humiliated, Princess kindly reminds her that that's what she's here for. Dana and Emma take care of Louie's body and Dana tells Emma's that it's the last thing they can do for patients. When Joy asks Robby how Kim "already knows all that" he responds that "she just does" because she's an experienced nurse who knows what she's doing. They can't get an ASL translator so Princess tries her best with her less than perfect ASL just so a patient can know they haven't forgotten her. Donnie is taking time to teach the med students how to suture because he's better at it than the guy who's been a doctor for a week. Jesse immediately goes and gets Gus a drink because he's starving and holds the drink and straw for him. Princess comforts and holds the panicked sister of a patient as she worries about "what's wrong with him". And then, at the end, Emma holds Louie's hand because there's no one else there to hold it

The Color Game. “Humans can’t reliably recall colors. This is a simple game to see how good (or bad) you are at it. We’ll show you five colors, then you’ll try and recreate them.” I scored 39/50 but got a perfect score on one color.
Remembering is less of an issue than navigating the colour slider, tbh.
my students are really harshing on the romance in jane eyre and yeah whatever age gap but something is just not clicking for them that jane eyre is a sexual power fantasy FOR THE YOUNG WOMAN in the relationship. jane eyre shows us this young woman who has an older man so wrapped around her finger that he SOBS for hours when she rejects his love, that raises up a panicked storm when she chooses to leave him. and while you shouldn't get me and my crip studies self started on the ableism of the ending, i.e. that jane's mastering of rochester is complete only when he becomes disabled, the fact remains that jane eyre is about a young woman mastering an older man in every sense of the word. it is a sexual power fantasy in which a young woman is so desirable and so loved by an older man that he drives himself into (emotional) ruin when (for a while) he cannot have her—that the young woman has the upper hand to choose when and how and on what terms their relationship happens. so whatever, age gap blah blah blah (it's literally a victorian novel, come on), but they're truly just missing that the novel is not endorsing an older man preying on a young woman—jane always has some degree of agency (and eventually total control) over rochester. the sexual power fantasy is about and for (and told by) the young woman!!!
A funny "Chronicles of Narnia" concept that I like to think about is Prince Caspian having this petty resentment towards Peter, which lasts even after the Pevensies leave, based on envy around the logistical advantage of three siblings with highly specialized skills who are, with some bickering and general disagreement, willing to cooperate and back up each other like 95% percent of the time. (And don't try to kill each other!)
This is especially funny to me with movie Caspian, who is older and possibly has a limited but genuine grasp of ruling politics, who was presumably TRYING underneath his regent uncle to prepare to be a Good King before everything went to shit. I like to imagine this guy living in the woods with the Narnians, betrayed and struggling to navigate a new realm of politics, being absolutely baffled and almost ANGRY watching the Pevensies get to work re-integrating with the Narnians when they arrive. Divide and conquer.
Because the Pevensies are a four-bodied UNIT of monarchs with decades of experience, specifically with Narnians and warfare, and established designated roles between them.
At any moment, High King Peter the Magnificent can turn around to consult (in my mind) 1) his stunningly beautiful sister who functioned socially as his queen, a diplomatic expert and the steward of their households (Susan), 2) his also handsome brother who is a diplomatic, legal, and legislative expert (Edmund), and 3) his pretty little sister who is ALSO an expert in court dynamics and let's say possibly also a medical professional (Lucy). ALL of whom ALSO have military leadership experience. It's just not FAIR.
So, at some point, I'm imagining Peter (and it does NOT help that Peter is also very handsome) going, "So, you want to marry Susan, eh?" And a part of Caspian is like, "Fuck you, I want ALL of them to come run my kingdom with me. If I live through this, I'm going to have SUCH a mess to clean up and manage!!!" And if he actually said that to Peter, once Peter got over reflexively being mad, Peter might say sympathetically, "Yeah, I used to get that sentiment a lot, actually."
My vision is that Caspian and Susan have a political marriage to unite the Narnian and Telmarine peoples, based on genuine friendship and sacrificial duty, which blossoms into a genuine love. And there IS tension based on the fact that the Pevensies are 1) politically a thousand years out of date, 2) struggling not to just take over (Peter especially) rather than sitting on Caspian's new council of lords.
But also, the other Pevensies are kind of approaching this marriage with an automatic "OUR husband ☝️😌" attitude. And the Telmarine lords, in trying to figure out which of Caspian's otherworldly Narnian consorts to approach to forward their personal political goals, start keeping polycule charts.
you're laughing. emerald fennell, a rich white woman, is adapting wuthering heights into a solely-for-shock-value film and ignoring all of the books themes on racism, cycles of abuse, and class. and casting heathcliff as a white man when he should be dark skinned. and casting edgar linton, the rich white man who holds immense privilege over heathcliff, as a man of color. this woman is racist and can't tackle class dynamics for shit but you're laughing
