falling asleep during the day: slipping away on a clouds so easy

so i just saw obsession

please picture a long table filled with catered food. trays upon trays of sandwiches. a vat of macaroni and cheese. plates full of brownies. now picture that next to this table there is a small table with a sign that says "gluten friendly" and it contains: bags of chips; some fruit; some rolls; salsa and mustard; a tray of lettuce and onion; and a tray of cold cuts. i think it also contained falafel (spelled falfel on the sign declaring it to be vegan) at some point, but that was gone by the time i made it downstairs, and i don't think it was gluten free in the first place based on the signage. the vegans get half a table and the gluten free people (including celiacs!) get half a table and obviously this will be enough for all of them! so anyway there was only one roll left by the time i got to the event, not that much later than everyone else.

#whoever plans the events at my gfs workplace simply cannot wrap their mind around the fact that she's gluten intolerant#she's had to explain multiple times that no she's not vegan she just can't have anything containing wheat#and when there's inevitability gluten-full food being served her coworkers insist that it's okay for her to have a 'cheat day'#she's learned to either eat before the event or bring her own food or just not go (via @idontunderstandjelly)

If I had to guess, it's either because

#to the point about people not bothering to learn the differences between food intolerances:#about a decade ago i worked in the kitchen of a senior living facility#one of our residents was lactose intolerant and couldn't have any dairy#and for some reason my coworkers assumed that meant she couldn't have eggs too#so if she say ordered a chef salad for lunch they'd give her one with no hard boiled egg#i tried explaining multiple times that eggs aren't dairy but they never got it (via @idontunderstandjelly)
