I've been working on determining the species, types, and abilities for a handful of OCs that will have important roles in my Mario crossover game and I finally filled the last two slots last week.

Recently, I've been doing a lot of math! I'm thankful I've got the skills to write code to do the math for me :) At this point, I've got a table of all the wild encounters and trainers that the player is likely to encounter in the game's first chapter, on average. This allows me to track, for each available monster species, what level those monsters are likely to reach by the time the player challenges the first Gym. With that information, I can decide which species are supposed to be good against that gym and which ones are not. Then, I can tweak their base stats and movesets to make sure the strong monsters are strong and the weak monsters are weak. I've been using a modified version of Smogon's damage calculator to test out stats and moves. That work is Basically Done™! So now I'm putting together a skeleton of the maps in RPG Maker to validate the math for those species. Once I've done that... well, the first chapter will be mechanically complete. Then I can move on to aesthetic designs and art assets.

Goob, from my Pokémon/Paper Mario crossover fan game project. Goob is a Ghost type that evolves once! I envision it starting out with some physical moves to reflect the fact that it mostly punches Luigi in the Luigi's Mansion games, but it'll slowly start learning elemental moves later on as it gets closer to evolving.

It's a Fairy-type with split evolutions, and one of my favorite Mario characters. Hoping to replicate some of their whimsical nature as I feature them as a faction in my game.
