#pokemon essentials

I'm honestly a bit burnt out. I mean, I definitely do want to keep working on this game, but the fact that I have to go backwards on so many things before I can go forwards is keeping me from wanting to do anything.

I want to work on your children and add the idea for Pokemon that I have. I want to expand on everybody's stories. I can't do any of that without changing what I already implemented though and I hate that!

There's also just a lot of shit that's going on anyway, but what else is new? At least none of it is anything like "we're helping a friend get away from her abusive ex." (She's been doing much better, by the way!)

Coding:

-Finished the trade syntax for Meowth, Ollie, Kai, Jayce, Cerise, Esmaralda, and MAYBE Kalani. (I dunno for sure because I kept getting distracted while working on her.)

I have two more candidates that I still have to replace the trading syntax for. After that I'll have to decide on how much more is needed before I can upload this 19.1 version of the game.

-Rewrote the descriptions for some of the food items that were experimental on my part to say that it will only heal yourself.

-Added eternal Flabebe and Florges' forms to the game. I think.

Art:

-Redid Eternal Florges' front sprite so it looks better.

It's centered a lot better and the head actually looks like it's a part of the body and not just floating there. I also properly outlined the "legs." I like this a lot more. Plus the black parts are shaded better. I might make the black part of the flower more pointy looking later, though.

Doing this made me realize that I never added (or made) Eternal Flabebe and Florges' icon sprites. (I just copied the first forms as a placeholder for now.)

I'm not going to make a Mega Florges. The BST for this form is already 590. I'm not even sure I can make megas for specific forms.

Misc:

-I'm scrapping the "partner Tauros" idea since I made Kaf. At least for now.

Originally my idea was to have it be implemented as an evolution to Tauros so you could breed your partner Tauros, get more Tauros and sell those Tauros without accidentally selling your partner Tauros, since it wouldn't be the same Pokemon internally. (This is why it'd have it's own Pokedex spot.)

But since I made Kaf I don't have to worry about that anymore. If I can find the syntax that will isolate the sex when giving away a Pokemon I can just have you sell male Kaf instead.

Touhou Puppet Play ~ The Adventures of Ayaka is a Touhou Project-centric fangame built on the Essentials v21 engine for RPG Maker XP. The game tells the story of Ayaka, a resident of the Human Village, and the adventures she has gotten up to as a result of the Puppet Era that has swept across the phantasmal wonderland, Gensokyo. The game's story is conveyed through three mini episodes, two of which have been released to the public separately, and one episode that was made uniquely for this compilation. The Mansion of Mystery, The Festival of Curses, and The Kingdom of Lunacy. While there is an overarching timeline, the episodes can be played in any order, as they are mostly self-contained experiences. There is also a small epilogue episode after those three episodes have been completed- The Last Adventure. Each of the episodes is roughly 2 to 5 hours in length, depending on playstyle. The overall length of this game is roughly 10~20 hours.

-- Features --​A game without features isn't much of a game now, is it? The Adventures of Ayaka comes with its own features that makes it a unique experience, such as the following:

A Touhoumon game featuring Puppets up to Urban Legend in Limbo!​

I got "busy" and development slowed down because of it. And by "it" I mean Pokopia.

Coding:

-Finished the trade syntax for Umeko, Souma, Rebecca, grouped together spouses.

I got so bored that I considered just locking out the trading requests for now, but I got enough done that it feels like the sunken cost fallacy to do so at this point.

-Fixed one of the rival events with Souma and Cerise to work for all seasons. Also I actually turned it on for all seasons.

-Of course this means that I rewrote every candidate who has a "complicated trade" trading syntax in the meantime. I just haven't gotten to replacing them all yet.

-Added all of the custom Mega Pokemon in the game. And by that I mean Raichu. I forgot that the only Mega Pokemon I actually inserted into the game myself was Raichu. (I did it first, Game Freak!)

Graphics:

-Made a Fakemon that I've been thinking about making ever since the concept was brought to my attention through a MandJTV video while playing... Certain livestreams in the background, so I can pay attention to what was going on with... Something. I tried working on the game instead but I couldn't focus on either thing that way.

I wasn't even sure I really wanted a baby Miltank/Tauros in the game, especially since I decided on having a "Partner Tauros," but uh... I made them anyway.

I'm going to call them something like "Kaf." A simple and boring name, but one that works for both Miltank and Tauros. (Since both baby cows and baby bulls are called "calf.") Every other idea I had would've leaned towards one or the other, which I don't want.

I gave it all of Miltank's Egg Moves. (Even Dizzy Punch.) And also Endeavor- the one Egg Move that Tauros can learn that Miltank can't. (The only other Egg Move that Tauros can learn is Curse, but so can Miltank.)

I actually put in some effort into the little details. I looked up the personalities most people noticed in their calves and I even looked up the average height and weight of a calf for this! Also the Pokedex color for Kaf is "black" for the hood thing since the main color changes with the gender.

I got a lot done by the time it was Pokemon day anyway!

Also yesterday it was apparently Stardew Valley day!

Good:

-Farming seems to be working... After I fixed the typos. (Basically I called the "Apicot" berry "Apricot" and I entirely blame the localizers of the Gen 3 games for that.)

-Naming things (like your baby) still works.

-Buying things (not the mart) seems to still work.

-Non-complicated trading still works.

Neutral:

-Got rid of the message that tells you if you're planting a seed out of season for at least most of the plots since there's no actual way to make it only say that if you try planting a seed out of season, apparently. (There probably is a way, but I'm not going to try to maneuver that.) I might have forgotten to get rid of that message for some of the plots.

-Added a new portrait to Cerise's kitchen. Now there are ten portraits. :)

-I'm calling the Pokemon Fan Club just "Fan Club."

Bad:

-FL changed their syntax for skipping to a certain time, apparently. I had to search for the new one.

-Of course the old syntax for complicated trades doesn't work anymore. And it no longer ignores the "complicated" stuff like it did before. Except of COURSE they broke it so not even their own damn example works anymore.

So I had to figure it out myself. And I did, somehow. Huh. HOW?! I am honestly really impressed with myself!

I'm just going to shove all of the Cenae Island traders in the corner for now since they're all complicated.

-Of course complicated gift Pokemon has also changed. I think there was only one of them though so I was able to get that one at least. (And it works, so whatever.)

I would've waited until tomorrow to post this since it's Pokemon Day tomorrow, but I might get too distracted for the rest of the week and forget.

I'm probably going to be slowing down a little bit for personal reasons. (Reasons involving my husband again, so I'm not going to go into any details.)

Good:

-Finished Cerise's, Esmaralda's, Kai's, Rebecca's, and Umeko's friendship syntax, meaning that every "present" candidate's syntax has been finished.

-Gave Cerise different "after talk" dialogue if she's cleaning up after your Mareep. (As a spouse.)

-Went through the v.19.1 version for any syntax changes and replaced some of the ones that I barely used that were changed. Like the bug contest. I dunno if it was necessary, but again I barely used them so replacing them was really fast. (Unlike the days that it took me to finish the syntax for farming and gifting to candidates.)

-I've been phasing out the ability to give a candidate who you chose to just stay friends with the ability to give them a Valentines day gift. (Only if you're at the max friendship level before a relationship though.)

-Made it so you can buy pride flags... Or posters. They're more like posters.

-Changed my profile picture after having the same one for years, as you can see! I think it'd make more sense for the professor of the region to be the PFP for the development blog, but also I just like the edit I did for her.

This is what you'll be seeing when you start a new game from now on.

Neutral (bad?):

-Got a bunch of things set up for testing. (Trading, farming, etc.) I haven't actually tested anything yet though.

-Instead of just being really windy, the "bad winds" storm in the winter time will act more like a blizzard. Though the icon and the TV will still state that it's windy to indicate a different scenario that can happen with really bad weather.

I will not subject you to the torture of having to wait until spring on a day that it's raining and on a Monday just for ONE event! UNLIKE A CERTAIN COMPANY!

So for some context: In Harvest Moon: DS Cute (one of my favorites. Maybe in my top five) Skye has some very specific conditions that has to be met for his second heart event. Basically, it has to be raining on a Monday. In that game snow doesn't count as rain, so if you don't see the event before winter time you have to wait until Spring. I never got rain on a Monday before winter time.🙃

-I decided to not try to add in some of the food item's battle functions. Mostly because they were sort of broken anyway.

When you used one a pop-up would happen claiming that your game has crashed, but the game will function again the second that pop-up goes away and the intended effects happens anyway, for the most part.

I was trying to make items that were like full restores, but they didn't fully restore your Pokemon's health and they only cured one status effect. They were also supposed to disappear after use, but they didn't. It was purely a "let's see if I can do this" kind of thing that sort of worked.

My main intent with those items was to have a way for you to gain your own HP back anyway, and they still function that way, so I'm going to just leave the battle functions out.

I dunno if anybody will be broken up over this or not.

Bad:

Have I ever talked about how much I regret naming the main town "Pomona" before? It's because to quickly get to a map you can just type in the first letter and it will take you to a map with that letter on it. There are so many buildings that start with the word "Pokemon." Thank god there's no homeowner with a name or surname that starts with "P."

With that said,

Good:

-I renamed the "Pokemon Institute" to "Nemorensis' Institute" and "Tellus' Institute, and the two "Pokemon Daycare" maps to "Daycare Center." Most Pokemon Center maps are filed underneath their town or a route, so I was able to "close" those maps.

-Finished Souma's gift syntax.

-Probably also finished Pierce's and Alderic's. The problem with these two was that I stopped working on Pierce's half way through and then came back without making a note on what I needed to do next, and I just kept getting distracting while doing Alderic's. (I thought I could do his while watching One Piece at the same time.)

Also Alderic's schedule for most of the day as a spouse is... Different. So I probably missed some spots.

-Fixed the requests for Souma as a spouse.

-Gave context to why Pierce doesn't have any neutral or disliked gifts in his bio, since there's barely any implication to why that is in the game.

-......I finally found where I was going to place Pierce during the daytime.

-I added a proper intro. And by that I mean I made an edit of Professor Juniper to look like Kiana and decided to use her in the intro. The sprite surprisingly didn't take me very long to make. (Or it feels like that at least.)

-Gave Kiana branching dialogue when you first meet her, giving you the opportunity to gain (or lose) points with her.

-Started making a "Partner Tauros," since you'll likely have to start over from the beginning anyway. (I'm starting now so I don't forget later.)

I'm only giving it a slight BST boost, (490 is already pretty impressive, so it'll barely be a boost. Certainly not 100+ like Partner Pikachu and Eevee,) more moves that it can learn by level up, and if I can ever find where the TMs are I'll let it have the ability to learn every HM.

It will have it's own number in the Pokedex (maybe?) instead of just being a new form for reasons that I will explain if it actually has it's own Pokedex number. (I am honestly not sure where that number went in this new PBS file structure.)

Bad:

-I forgot to delete Jayce's trade request from Cerise until now! (When she's married.) Aaaaaaaaaah!

I should probably give some context. So when I made the spouses I structured them a little differently from when they're not your spouse, so I would sort of "borrow" from the first spouse and replace whatever needs to be replaced while also having a consistent structure.

There's a moment in their schedules where they'll branch off away from what the others would do. When I was making them I must have made the three in this order: Jayce, Cerise, Souma. I tend to use the rivals for the spouses to make them so any switches that I want to use if you marry both of them will be right there. Otherwise I usually just use the one I made last.

When I was making Cerise based on Jayce I forgot to delete his trading request. When I was making Souma based on Cerise I forgot to replace Cerise's gifts and trading request on top of deleting Jayce's. I got so focused on the dialogue that I didn't think about checking everything else underneath it, basically.

Neutral:

-Added a silly cutscene if you loiter around the lab until 1AM before choosing your starter Pokemon.

-I deleted the description of the "movie" that was playing on TV in your bedroom in the intro house of the game.

It said "a group of kids found a body." It was reference to "Stand By Me," since the Kanto games also referenced that. (Asides from maybe Let's Go.) Which is a wild reference to make in a kids game, but on there it just said something like "a group of boys walks along side the train tracks."

It is an excellent movie (and book, I assume. Called "The Body,") about growing up and supporting each other during tough times. Ironically the body is the most uninteresting part of the movie, but that's the point. The journey is purposely and literally more interesting than the destination.
