semi-hiatus

1) The blood in banks has been (God willing) freely given away. There are no consent issues there because I agreed they could get the blood out of my veins and give it to someone in need.

2) BUT??? Do I know vampires exist?? Maybe I don’t. Maybe I think the blood is going to humans. If it’s going to vampires instead, well, that isn’t what I agreed to, and that could be skivvy. 

3) Furthermore, if the vampire drinks my blood, humans that needed it won’t get it… but they both need it. So how do you decide who deserves it? Who decides what life is worth saving? Why is the hospitalised human more deserving of blood than the starving vampire?

4) Maybe the human being is paying for it in his hospital fees, and the vampire is not. But does the vampire deserve to starve just cause he hasn’t any money??

5) Or maybe the vampire is centuries-old and has lived plenty already, so maybe he should fuck off and let humans, with their puny lifespans, get help first. Y’all know this is a Whole Thing already with life expectancy and transplant lists, right?.

6) Or actually, why is this being treated as a zero-sum game, like the vampire is taking blood bags directly out of patient’s IVs, instead of a blood bank that can manage stock, even with difficulties? Maybe we should back up and try to fix the blood bank stock issue before harassing vampires about it?

1. Vampires where once alive and they lost. Not the blood banks fault, not the poor hospital patients fault. But blood should be prioritized to those who are, you know, alive. So morally, hospital patients have the high ground. Is a life a real life when it’s dead?

Large parts of the queer population are forbidden from donating blood. Vampires probably don’t mind being fed blood by queer people. Have a seperate supply chain where you distribute blood donated by queer people for vampiric consumption. Or cut out the middleman and have a couple of kinky queer people on duty at all times in major hospitals; the global vampiric population is probably in the low tens of thousands, for every hungry vampire there is a dozen of queer people who are absolutely into that shit. Of course, for those vampires who do not wish for that kind of intimacy, you can still have your queer blood banks.

Furthermore, why is it that when there is a shortage in the medical sector that our first question is “who will we cut off from treatment” and not “why is there a shortage”. The blood crisis is the result of decades of conservative destruction of the medical sector and specifically decades of hatred against queer people. We have a large number of death-defying people with superpowers at our hands. I suggest we send those vampires with sufficient demonic powers into hell to pursue Reagan as a symbolic statement and use the rest to carry out attacks against governments globally. Once we eliminate the continued source of the shortage, we can eliminate the shortage itself.
