The Women’s March was only two months ago and I remember more than a few hurt white feelings over signs and posters and memes that asked if all this solidarity was real or just for white women to feel good about themselves.

When a binary trans persons gender is invalidated it’s them being invalidated as that gender.

When a non binary trans persons gender is invalidated *it’s the gender itself that is invalidated*.

When binary trans people can’t use public restrooms, it’s because they aren’t being allowed into the one that is appropriate for them.

When non binary trans people can’t use public restrooms, it’s because there is *no* appropriate restroom for them.

Neither is acceptable or appropriate or worth ignoring. But honestly the fight for validation and even rights isn’t the same.

We still face similar issues, and non binary people are still trans (if that’s the label they feel is most appropriate for themself), but it isn’t a unified experience. But you know what, neither is any collective group, especially that works as an umbrella foe many different types of people.

The important thing is to just not keep ignoring part of the group, just because it’s more difficult to challenge the system itself rather than confirm into it.

And no I don’t mean this is the fault of any individual binary trans person who prioritizes stealth and their safety over irl activism. I mean from within political movements.
