Active Shooter Situations in American Colleges and Universities, from 2002 to 2015.
January 16th, 2002 - Student Peter Odighizuma opens fire at the Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Virginia. He kills three people and injures three. Odighizuma does not surrender or cease firing willingly; but is instead tackled and restrained by a trio of students.
May 9th, 2003 - Biswanath Halder opens fire on the campus of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He starts shooting in the Weatherhead School of Management Building, killing one person and injuring two before being shot and wounded by police. At that point he is arrested.
April 16th, 2007 - Student Cho Seung-Hui shoots 49 people; killing 32 and injuring 17 at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia. Cho commits suicide when police arrive. It is (at that time) the deadliest mass shooting in United States history.
February 8th, 2008 - Female shooter Latina Williams (23) opens fire at Louisiana Technical College. She opens fire in a second floor classroom, killing two people before committing suicide.
February 14th, 2008 - Steven Kazmierczak (27) brings three guns to Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois and opens fire. He kills five people and injures 16 inside the Cole Hall Auditorium during an oceanology lecture. He commits suicide before police arrive.
April 26th, 2009 - Odane Maye (18) brings three handguns to Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia and starts shooting people. A dorm manager manages to empty the building quickly, meaning Maye shoots and injures only three people. He attempts suicide by shooting himself but survives and is arrested.
February 12th, 2010 - Amy Bishop opens fire during a staff meeting at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama. She shoots and kills three people and injures three others. She surrenders to police, and is later sentenced to life imprisonment after pleading guilty in order to avoid the death penalty.
March 9th, 2010 - Nathaniel Brown brings two handguns to Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He opens fire, killing one person and injuring another. He then commits suicide before the police can arrive.
September 28th, 2010 - 19 year old Colton Tooley opens fire on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin with a semi-automatic rifle. No-one is hurt beside Tooley, who commits suicide.
April 2nd, 2012 - Former student Su Nam Ko opens fire at Oikos University in Oakland, California. He kills seven people and injures three before being arrested.
April 12th, 2013 - Neil Allen MacInnis (22) opens fire at New River Community College in Christiansburg, Virginia, injuring two people. A man tackled and overpowered MacInnis before he could do any major damage. MacInnis was later arrested.
June 7th, 2013 - John Zawahri (23) opens fire on the campus of Santa Monica College in Santa Monica, California. He kills five people and injures four before police shoot and kill him in the library.
June 5th, 2014 - Aaron Ybarra (26) opens fire on the campus of Seattle Pacific University in Seattle, Washington. He kills one person and injures three others. When he starts to reload in Otto Miller Hall, a student carrying pepper spray maces him and others join in to restrain him until police arrive, preventing any further bloodshed.
November 20th, 2014 - Myron May starts shooting inside Strozier Library in Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. He injures three people before being shot and killed by police.
October 1st, 2015 - Christopher Harper-Mercer (26) brings several handguns and a rifle to Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon then starts shooting people. He kills nine people and injures seven before committing suicide.
