When Tenna says Spamton ran out of the room and left the receiver hanging, he gets frustrated about being ripped off. This implies that that was the last time he saw Spamton, since if they had actually interacted again past that Spamton would have. You know. Explained Himself. In any capacity at all. But of course, he couldn't do that, because he was losing everything he ever had, and actively going insane in the process.

But on top of that, if you remember the Z-Rank room, Tenna still has the phone.

Of course, it's busted now, but back then? If Spamton could have contacted Tenna, Tenna would have known. He would have heard the phone ring.

But it never did.

Not because they hated each other, but because forces outside of their control simply decided that that was enough. That Spamton was too close to saying something he shouldn't. That Tenna wasn't supposed to have that knowledge. So they were driven apart.

And the worst part about it is it didn't even take that much effort. After that initial wedge was driven in, Spamton and Tenna were the ones who kept pushing. Spamton was predisposed to expecting people to lie to him, to cheat, to throw him away, so obviously he assumes that happened again, because that's what always happens to him. Tenna was insecure about modern technology and losing out on important things because he can't keep up, so of course he assumed he got screwed by his own ignorance. They convinced themselves the other never cared, when that couldn't have been further from the truth.

It's why Spamton jumps out the moment he sees the pipis, in fact. He has real, tangible proof that Tenna did care. (And it makes it all the more tragic that Tenna can't recognize him anymore.)

They would have been fine. They could have had something. Something that only the other could give them. The affection from someone closer to you than anyone else. The freedom to be yourself and still be appreciated for who you are.

And instead something else broke their hearts.
