i feel it coming

I need some shopping buddies. Anyone wanna come along and tell me about how great I look in all of the swimsuits and help me decide which ones to get? 

You look great in everything, do I still have to be in the store and see the bathing suits or can this count as me giving you my opinion?

Not that I expected it to be easy, but nursing school is way harder on my social life than I anticipated. I barely have anything else in my closet other than scrubs and the last time I had a free night was the wedding that never was and while it was fun, I was very confused! Have there been many Walt weddings like that? Should I always bring a change of clothes just in case someone else is getting surprised married? What is the correct gift to give to someone if they’ve ditched their own wedding and fly off on a dragon? Would someone like to answer all these questions and more over drinks or fun activity? 

I can pretty confidently say that that wedding was one of a kind, so I think the rest of them that you go to from now on will end up being pretty normal. Either that or it started a long chain of bizarre weddings that you’ll attend in your lifetime, each more unpredictable than the last -- which path would you prefer?

Generally no, but it depends on who’s out on the floor that night. But, I do do a lot of the heavy work and generally get paid more so I don’t really care about the tips anyway. 

So getting a default cut while people on the floor are getting tips based on whether they perform well or not doesn’t bother you in the slightest?

Little do people know, paying their ‘compliments to the chef’ really doesn’t mean anything. The chef doesn’t care, and more than likely already know that their food is great. 

Do you think the chefs would care a bit more if their compliments were literally paid? I mean, you tip your service staff, does any percentage of that go back to the kitchen for good food?

She looked up when she heard footsteps. She looked up every time she’d heard footsteps because the last thing she wanted to be stood up at her last hurrah. Especially if it was Malcolm. God, she was gonna be shocked if it wasn’t him. But she knew deep down that it had to be him. Who else would’ve owned a math tie? She shifted, sinking her teeth into her cheek and glancing down at her phone. She was early, but she was never patient. She glanced down at her phone, chewing on her lower lip as she scrolled through twitter.  Bijou looked up when she heard him speak, the tension that she felt in her shoulders relaxing because she knew it. There had been a small part of her that had thought that maybe she’d been wrong. That she hadn’t known, but god she was so glad she’d been right.  She couldn’t help the smile that had grown on her face when she landed on him, her teeth sinking into her lower lip. Her eyes skimmed over him, her breath hitching just slightly because he really knew how to clean up well. “Who else would it have been? I mean, there’s no one prettier than me,” she stated with a wide smile. She licked her lips, her eyes scanning his features once more and she nodded. “I’m – glad it’s you, too,” she stated softly, holding her hand out for him and raising her eyebrow, “Ready?” 

Malcolm chuckled lightly at her question. “In my opinion? Nobody, although I wouldn’t have put it past Bonnie to put that answer about herself. Although maybe a candy thong or something would have been more likely.” Before, he might have said Bonnie’s name with a hint of disdain, but now he found that he’d actually grown kind of fond of her. Bijou leaving them both behind had been a strange kind of bonding experience for them, but he didn’t want to talk about that. He didn’t want to talk about anyone that wasn’t the two of them -- and even that could be a treacherous topic, when he had to remind himself to just enjoy the night and not want too much. 

He slid his hand into hers easily, squeezing it experimentally, almost as if to make sure it was real and that he hadn’t just dreamed this all up in his head. “I can’t pretend that my dancing skills have gotten any better, though; but maybe it’s good for you to get embarrassed one last time before your whole royal life never gives you a chance to do anything silly.” Shit. Saying too much, already, but Malcolm had a hard time with the filter around Bijou. He cast a sidelong glance towards her, both to take in how beautiful she was again in case she chose to leave, and to make sure that he hadn’t offended her enough to make her want to...

She wasn’t an idiot. She knew who he was gonna be from his math equation tie. She’d seen that tie in his closet before; she thought it might’ve been the only tie that he owned. Still, the blonde waited by the stair case, her hands folded in front of her and her eyes flicking around. She could’ve just ditched him, but then he would’ve hated her even more. She was tired of him hating her. Tired of people hating her. So, she’d wait. She’d wait until he  showed up or wait all night until she realized that he was standing her up. She knew that she would’ve deserved it, too. She still waited, her fingers twisting nervously in front of her

When Malcolm had seen his match’s description, his mind had immediately jumped to Bijou. How could it not? It seemed like as long as he’d been there, she was the only girl he really saw, the only one he really seemed to notice. Who could be the prettiest girl in the room but her? Then he’d realized that was stupid -- there were plenty of confident girls in Walt, plenty of people who it could be, and he’d almost stayed home rather than show up and face the disappointment of being matched with someone else. It felt like there was no way he could win... but in the end, the tiny sliver of hope that he’d get to spend one more night with Bijou before she got married had won out.

And boy, did he know the second that he entered the room that his hopes hadn’t been in vain. Malcolm could feel her presence before he even saw her; it was that kind of magnetic pull he felt every time she walked into a room, and though he’d dragged his feet getting here, he felt like he wasn’t wasting a single second getting to her side. He didn’t hesitate, or give himself a moment to overthink this -- it was his last chance, his last moment, and he wouldn’t fight for her. He wouldn’t beg her to leave behind the life that she’d picked for herself, no matter how strong his feelings still were despite his attempts to get rid of them. He’d just appreciate her while she was still here, and then... then she’d be gone.

“I’m glad it’s you,” Malcolm breathed out when he finally reached her. It wasn’t the smartest thing to say, but for a change, it was the honest one. He swallowed hard, wringing his hands together as he waited to see if she actually wanted to spend the night with him or if she’d only come to tell him this was all a horrible idea, a cruel twist of fate played by Walt’s matchmakers to remind him that he had never had a shot in hell of being good enough for her.

Well, I’m available for pictures at any time you wanna take them. You’re not an idiot, Malcolm. You know exactly what I meant. 

I’ve never really been into photography. Although I guess I could make an exception for you, in case you run off and get married and I never see you again. And yeah, I’m the opposite of an idiot about most things, but not... this. I don’t think anyone’s just born knowing what to do in a situation like this.

Bonnie: Well my life has firmly settled at rock bottom and has been since she left so like...I can say that I think it might be, regardless of what my pride wants me to say. jfc I hate myself, I just got so sad at the idea of never seeing her again.

Bonnie: well I mean...I know Bijou, and she's never 'easy'. She might just be making you think she doesn't want you to do anything, when really she's dying for you to.

Malcolm: Sorry! I didn't mean to make you think about that. Maybe that's a sign? That you should try to talk to her before the wedding or something? Not that you should have to make the first move, but... Rock bottom doesn't sound like a nice place to be. Even being just a little bit above the rocks now feels a little better.

Malcolm: Yeah, easy's not her style, but what do you even do when a person's getting married in a month? Beg them to call it off and run away with you?

Bonnie: 😢😢😢

Bonnie: I don't think any of that is stupid at all. The sad part is that if she started talking to me like nothing was wrong, I'd probably do the same thing.

Bonnie: and as for the love thing....well, I didn't know she'd ever been in love. And I didn't know she was dating you. So if there were a Venn Diagram made of things that she hasn't told me, those two things would perfectly overlap and therefor, I think so? That's how math works, right?

Malcolm: I don't get why she doesn't. She definitely seems... I don't know, not as happy as she's pretending to be right now. I think her life would be a lot better if she did talk to you again, it's just whether your life would be better or not. I mean, she's just going to leave us again, right? When she gets married, will we ever even see her again?

Bonnie: o m g that's so sad I'm so sorry. :/ I wouldn't have judged her for dating you at all. Though...maybe their family just has a different view because of the whole...Maleficent thing?

Malcolm: It's fine. It was probably always going to be a problem. It was probably always stupid to fall in love with her in the first place.

Malcolm: And... it's probably even stupider that I started talking to her again when I bumped into her over the break.

Malcolm: And stupidest of all to hope that she meant me when she said she was still in love with someone, right?
