“Believe it or not, I do not know who you are. Or what you may or may not have done.”

“So you’ve forgotten that my team is the one who ferried you all the way across the galaxy?” Illyana arched an eyebrow curtly. “Try again.” 

“I really wasn’t thinking you did.”

“You look like the type to point fingers.”

“Are you feeling this defensive because of your role in the war?”

“No. I’ve absolved myself of all guilt. I tortured people, Kevin nearly killed me. It’s even.”

“Usually that’s my line.”

“Too slow then, I suppose.”

“Yeah but you get why they’d suspect you.”

“Because I’m capable of making things happen?”

“I don’t think anyone’s accusing you unless you’ve actually done something, Yana.”

“You’d be surprised. People love to point fingers and I am occasionally angry and have a sword. I just tell everyone they’re wrong.” Illyana paused, eyes moving over Kate’s features to check on her. “Hello, Kate. How are you?”

“I didn’t think you did anything last time.” his brows were pulled down in confusion, obviously speaking out of his ass.

“You’re the only one then. They made me an international criminal.”

“You do one t’ing wrong and suddenly you’re everyone’s scapegoat.”

“That’s what I keep telling people. No one listens.”

Kevin raised an eyebrow. Maybe she was right. Maybe he just had to pull his head out of his ass and just go for it. “I did accept Emma’s offer, so I guess there’s that.”

“White Monarchy. Good luck with that. Blood shows up too easily on white.” That’s why Illyana wore black. Now, when Kitty needed her to, she’d wear red as well. “Good for you, doing something finally other than bitching and moaning.”

“Well, I wouldn’t say all humans are sad—” Roger shook his head, “Nevermind that, what kind of stuff do you like to do for fun?” Now he was just morbidly curious at this point.

“My experiences have shown that most are.” Illyana shot back, voice slow and tone casual. “I drink coffee and work on cutting things with my sword.”

“Nothing, just sayin’ wassup.”

“Hello, meathead.” 

“Me neither,” Sam sighed, taking a slow, deep breath afterward in a feeble attempt to compose himself, “And I’d really appreciate it if that wasn’t what I was known for from now on, but I don’t think there’s much I can do about that, is there?” The young Nova frowned.

“No, I don’t think you can. There are worse things to  be. People don’t seem to like me outside of Krakoa.”

Bobby immediately deflated, a bit embarrassed by his own response, “You’re right, I’m sorry.”

“Oh, don’t waste your breath apologizing  to me when you just exhausted so much judging me.”

Melina sucked in a breath, carefully pondering her response, the words as calculated and unfeeling as usual, “I came here looking for a friend– family of mine. Only to find out she was killed. опрометчиво.”

“Как жаль.” Yelena’s voice wasn’t entirely unkind. “I’m sorry to hear. Reckless deaths are the worst kind.”

Bobby took a deep breath, skating past the girl’s remark, “Does your brother know you’re here?”

“Piotr is not my keeper. Why would it matter if he knows whether or not I’m here?”

“I know you’re screwing with me, and I really don’t appreciate it. I think unpleasant was a bit of an understatement.”

“Very perceptive. Good job.”  Illyana’s lips briefly twitched into a shit eating grin. “I used to live there, you know. I’ve tried to make it more homey.” 

“Like what?” Rachel glared back at the girl, hands resting on her hips as she turned away from the work she had yet to finish, “I’m open to ideas.”

“Do you like to slash things? Blow them up? Maybe you can help mommy dearest and read some pregnancy books.”
