if you have incense, light it and take some time to enjoy the scent. make sure you have a window open!
light the candle, and take time to enjoy its presence.
introduce yourself, "madoka kaname, icon of magical heroes - i, [name], gently and compassionately call to you."
take the twig, and tie the ribbon in a bow at the top of the twig. gently, either tap the side of the candle with the twig (if it's a long/protected candle) or tap the twig next to the candle. say, "i lovingly and patiently request your presence, to guide me and to nurture me in my path."
then, gently tap your forehead with the twig (or the top of your head), "i wish to humbly and honestly speak with you about [start saying whatever you need to say]."
once you are done, say, "i thank you for your glimmering and radiant audience. once i blow out the candle, our conversation is finished."
blow out the candle, and undo the ribbon around the twig. dispose of the twig, and tie the ribbon somewhere on you, whenever you need her influence, bravery, or guidance.
So I seem to have caught a head cold and decided to generously take this opportunity to teach every one an easy healing spell. So be grateful.
(Disclaimer: Magic is not a replacement for modern medicine. Please take your vitamins, stay well hydrated, take your meds, whatever it takes to take care of yourself.)
What you'll need:
A small piece of paper.
Something to write with.
A crystal with healing properties.
Step 1.
Draw the sun witch's rune on you your piece of paper and then add the moon witch's rune inside the sun. It should look something like this:
The sun rune promotes good health and the moon rune promotes healing.
Step 2.
Place your crystal in the center of the runes.
I chose amethyst as it is known as a healing powerhouse and is probably the most common amongst magic crystals.
Step 3.
Place your hands on either side of the crystal. Your hands shouldn't be touching the crystal. Merely in the general proximity, resting on the pinky side as if you are cupping the air around the crystal. You want to create a magic field around the crystal to activate the spell.
Step 4.
Whisper a healing incantation. You can create your own but, if you struggle with creating your own incantations, here's a pre-made one for you (I struggle with making my own incantations too so don't worry):
"Heal this body so it feels no pain.
Clear this vessel of unwelcome germs.
Let healing be swift so I may do good works."
And you're done. For added healing, wear the crystal you just used as jewelry, keep it in your pocket, or put it under your pillow. It has just been imbued with healing magic so it's best not to waste that mana. Remember, stay safe and keep learning new magic.
Devil Homura (悪魔ほむら, Akuma Homura) is an entity in the literary universe of Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
Before ‘Devil Homura’ was confirmed to be her official title, fans referred to her as ‘Homucifer’ and other portmanteaus of Homura’s name with English and Japanese words related to that of ‘demon’ or ‘devil’.
Note: In order to be as thorough as possible, this profile may include spoilers for any related media. Keep this in mind before continuing under the cut!
This post is part a series covering entities from mahō shōjo media. These posts are intended to introduce you to powerful spirits that could aid you in your magical journey! If you have any suggestions for future entries, or if you have worked with any of these beings and want to share your experiences, please feel free to send me a message! ☆
Devil Homura is the form Homura Akemi takes in Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion after absorbing the powers of Ultimate Madoka when she separates Madoka Kaname from her final godly form.
After the Holy Quintet is able to revert Homura back from her Witch form, Homulilly, Ultimate Madoka was prepared to bring Homura into the Law of Cycles. However, Homura resolved to save Madoka from her loneliness and decided to become a god in her place, even if it meant denying Madoka her wish. As her Soul Gem darkens completely and transforms into a Dark Orb, Homura creates a new world where all of her friends are alive and can live a normal, happy life.
Witnessing this new power, Kyubey asks Homura what she has become, considering she is no longer a Puella Magi nor a Witch. Homura explains that she would consider herself a ‘demon’ or a ‘devil’ since she pulled the Goddess (Madoka) out of Heaven to keep her imprisoned and that she would gladly reject a god if it meant saving her friend.
Devil Homura is depicted wearing a long, tattered dress with a bodice that looks like a broken heart. She has large, almost skeletal wings adorned with sparse black feathers which makes her look like a fallen angel. She wears Madoka’s red ribbon as a headband and in some depictions the lively red hue of the original ribbon has darkened into more of a burgundy color. Homura’s purple eyes also turn magenta when she becomes Devil Homura.
Devil Homura's design is comparable and complimentary to that of Ultimate Madoka: while she wears predominately black and dark, muted tones of purple, Ultimate Madoka wears white and pink. The purple and pink accents in their attire reference design elements of the costumes they wore as puella magi.
Associations
Homura, reflecting on her new form, describes herself as a ‘demon’ or a ‘devil’ as well as a ‘force of chaos’ so it would be no stretch to associate Devil Homura with these aspects. Her powers and influences could be compared to Lucifer and the ‘left-hand path’ in general. Devil Homura is also often alluded to and depicted with lizards and salamanders. Salamanders, in particular, are associated with the element of fire and the infernal.
As I mentioned in my entry about Ultimate Madoka, the designs of Ultimate Madoka and Devil Homura borrow visual and thematic tropes from ballet, especially those by Tchaikovsky. Devil Homura’s design is reminiscent of Odile, the Black Swan, from Swan Lake.
This thesis from 2018 by Remen Shafi presents a case for Devil Homura being comparable to Friedrich Nietzsche’s concept of the übermensch. Taking this into consideration, Devil Homura can feasibly be associated that idea and with the philosophy of nihilism.
Magical Applications
Devil Homura is often venerated alongside Ultimate Madoka as a pop culture deity in the real-world magical girl community. I suppose it can be argued that the two entities seek to create some sort of balance, similar to the concepts of ‘yin’ and ‘yang’.
Devil Homura can be worshipped as an infernal deity and would be a suitable entity to work with on ‘the left-hand path’. Her indulgent, almost gluttonous personality makes Devil Homura a strong candidate for spellwork regarding desire and indulgence.
While her obsessive love of Madoka could point to Devil Homura being a powerful entity to call on for love magia, I think her influence would be too destructive for everyday relationship spellwork. To avoid burning too many bridges (or worse, finding yourself or your crush in a dangerous situation), I would advise you to let Homura have eyes only for Madoka and to not emulate or invoke her in your personal affairs.
Suggestions for Offerings or Devotional Acts
Devil Homura can be venerated like other martyrs or deities and thus offerings of candles and/or libations would be a suitable way to offer devotion. I think black teas, black feathers, red or burgundy ribbons, and red spider lilies would be particularly appropriate offerings. Images or representations of lizards and salamanders can also be used as offerings or to adorn devotional space.
Even though she was introduced as part of an April Fool’s unit in Magia Record, the entry for Devil Homura’s Magia Report counterpart, Devil Homura-chan is described to like “demonic high-calorie foods”. From this, I think it is safe to say that any offering that feels indulgent would be suitable for Devil Homura.
I have a question for you. How can someone scrutinize the world scientifically and think through the world logically, while also actively practicing the magic only seen in fiction? These things should be counterproductive, or at least counterintuitive. However, when you realize that beliefs from knowledge and experiential beliefs can co-exist, I hope you will see that the opposite could not be further from the truth.
To explain what I mean, lets explore how the average person creates knowledge. Logically, one would use the explanation that takes the least assumptions into account. To see this in action, lets use a scenario. Lets say for example you order delivery and the food is colder than you expect. Now you could assume that the delivery car went through the artic to get to you, but that would be making many assumptions (the driver would somehow make it to the artic, find a way to drive through the intense snow and ice, would think to go there to get to your house, would not stop to pet the penguins, etc.). Using deductive reasoning however, one would narrow down the assumptions as to what happened to more educated guesses (the driver left the window open, it sat in the restaurant for too long, etc.). This is how most people make conclusions. They take the beliefs they have and interrogate them with proven facts about their world. Putting it simply, belief + proven facts = knowledge. More often then not, they are correct to use this method, at least on some levels. However, what if this explanation is not enough?
I saw no point in school as a child. I did not understand why I had to spend every day filling out papers, listening while adults talked at me, and be judged based on how well i preformed. However, it made the adults around me happy when I did do this, so I justified it to myself in the only way I knew how. I reframed school as a video game of sorts, where I was the hero making friends, fighting monsters, and saving the world again and again. This is what I will call experiential beliefs. Beliefs you choose to take on for any reason other than factual evidence. This is what happens when you believe in something because it advances your personal narrative, you just enjoy it, or any other reason. Now, I can see how someone would find these beliefs useless. After all, what use is a belief if it cannot be justified by the world around you? However, these are some of the most practical beliefs one can have, because they are the most empowering. By making your beliefs, and LARPing them into existence, as it were, you become inherently magical. You don't need evidence from objective reality to power your beliefs, because they don't come from objective reality to begin with. Most freeing of all, knowing the truth of these beliefs can keep yourself scientifically minded and skeptical, while also retaining your magic.
Before I move on to my next point, Lets give a magical example with both frameworks. In particular, lets say a tarot card reading that you got was scarily accurate. Using the first framework, the evidence that we currently know about the world states that the accuracy was nothing more than our natural pattern seeking brains, and the archetypical nature of tarot relating to almost any situation. However, an experiential framework would state that the spirit of the cards/a deity/etc is using the cards to tell you a message. One framework is not inherently better than the other, and most important of all, they do not contradict each other.
In terms of the experiential framework, it is also important to address any internal biases that may be influencing them. I believe that these narrative based frameworks are a work of art, and as with any art, the artist should review them for any of their personal biases leaking in. These biases are not inherently bad, as long as they are not hateful, or bigoted in nature. By realizing the truth of the experiential framework, I hope you can make your practice more inclusive and considerate of the world around you. As well, it is important that your experiential framework does not eclipse your physical safety (this is not to say it has to be "realistic", nor that you have to cater to societal standards to fit in, just make sure that your experiential belief that you have wings does not convince you to jump off of any cliffs, etc.).
That being said, It is one thing to know how to believe in something magically, but it is something completely different to know how to practice this magic.
Part 2: Intention
Lets take two situations, both alike in many ways but with one very important difference. The first situation is as follows: following a power outage, someone lights a red candle with a match, in order to light the room around them. The second situation is very similar: the red candle is still lit, but it is lit with the intention to cast a spell of protection. Both cases involve the same effort from the caster, and using proven knowledge, achieve the same result. The difference however, is simple: intention.
Intention alone is what separates a mundane activity from a magical one. This is the key to your practice. You do not need any specific ritual, or to put in any extra effort to preform magic. All that is required is that you decide, in the moment, to make what your doing magical. Another example is this: your daydreaming can become travel to the astral realm without putting in effort to make it more immersive, or using meditation, etc. to amplify your mental world. You simply just have to decide that you are entering the astral realm, begin to daydream as normal, and Voila! You are there! As well, try not to worry that your belief isn't "strong enough", just saying the words "this is a ritual/astral travel/etc" or any variation of that is more powerful than you may think!
Overall, this is what makes magic so freeing. You can decide that anything can be a spell, and that anything you do can be magical. Wanna shoot fireballs at monsters? Just decide that your room is a battlefield, your action figures are monsters, and your hands can shoot fireballs. Wanna explore strange lands? Just daydream and decide that you are exploring the astral, or take a walk and allow yourself to believe that you are in a new world! This can be applied to any individual, in any way possible. I feel like I end all of my writings in the same way, but it could not be any more true. Go on, and create your magic. In my opinion, make-believe is the highest and greatest form of art, and is a way that anyone and everyone can be magical.

Yue (月) is a guardian entity created by Clow Reed. He was tasked alongside Kerberos to select a successor to wield the Clow Cards. Yue is cold, aloof, and is much more serious and intimidating than his counterpart.
His appearance is that of tall, attractive young man with icy blue eyes and long, silvery hair that flows to the ground in a loose ponytail. He wears white robes set with dark blue armor, a jeweled earring on his left ear, a long side cape that drapes over his right shoulder, and has a pair of large feather wings that he can tuck away and hide in certain situations.
Before Sakura-chan released the Clow Cards from the Book of Clow, Yue was sealed in the book and became the winged crescent moon on its cover.
Note: In order to be as thorough as possible, this profile may include spoilers for any related media. Keep this in mind before continuing under the cut!

Initially, Yue’s presence was not revealed to Sakura and Kero-chan as he spent most of first part of Sakura’s journey in his temporary form, Yukito Tsukishiro, who had no knowledge of his other self.
The closer Sakura came to the Final Judgment, the more powerful Yue's presence became, especially during the full moon. Though Yukito was still unaware of his true identity, Yue's aura would occasionally bleed through having a bizarre effect on those around him.
When Sakura captured the final Clow Card, the Earthy, Yue revealed himself to her and Kerberos and announced he must judge Sakura’s worth as a candidate to inherit Clow’s magic: if she could defeat him in combat, she come Mistress of the Cards.
At first Sakura outright refused him, not wanting to harm Yukito, who she cared for deeply. However, Yue fully intended to defeat Sakura, not wanting to accept a new master.
After a fraught battle, Sakura transformed her Sealing Wand into a wand imbued with her own magic and subdued Yue, forcing him to admit defeat and accept her as Mistress of the Cards.
Like Kerberos, Yue has jurisdiction over half of the Clow Cards and lords over the cards under the elements of Water (Watery) and Air (Windy). He is exceptional at sensing magic and also has the ability to siphon magic from others. In battle, Yue is able to fly and can create weapons and barriers out of moonlight. He often relies on ranged combat, utilizing his archery skills and creating crystal-like projectiles.
Yue is severely limited in his temporary form, Yukito, as he generally prevents Yukito from knowing anything about his true form. If Yue uses too much of their magic, Yukito takes the brunt of it—needing to eat large amounts of food for energy while also becoming incredibly sleepy to the point of almost being narcoleptic. It isn’t until Sakura starts creating the Clear Cards when Yue begins to open up to Yukito and allows him to have a more active role in their relationship.
Associations
Yue is associated with the Moon and Eastern sorcery. As previously mentioned, the cards associated with Watery and Windy are under his protection. Yue’s power is directly related to the strength of his master.
Yue being skilled in archery may be related to the mythology of Artemis and her Roman counterpart, Diana, who are lunar deities who are also skilled hunters often depicted with a bow and arrow.
His name literally means ‘moon’ in Chinese which underscores his lunar associations.
Magical Applications
Yue is an another entity you can call on if you are seeking to recreate Sakura’s journey of capturing and mastering the Clow Cards; he can certainly be evoked to guide you on this pathworking, particularly to judge your progress. Sometimes you need a critical eye to impart necessary constructive criticism!
In a pinch, Yue may be able to siphon additional magic into you for a little boost of power. Don’t overuse this though: that temporary boon comes with a real physical cost and if you abuse his ability he will surely become cross with you.
I believe Yue can also aid you when delving into Eastern mysticism and esotericism. He may be reluctant at first but he may be able to assist you in those studies.
Suggestions for Offerings or Devotional Acts
Like Kerberos, Yue does not need food or drink to survive but unlike Kero, he never indulges. Yue prefers peace and quiet and abhors anything rowdy.
Acts of quiet meditation are something you can do with Yue or as a way to show your affection towards him. Additionally, you could offer him sources of magic to empower him; offering items associated with the Sun may seem contradictory it makes sense when you consider the moon reflects its light from the Sun.
Ushagi (うしゃぎ) is a minor supporting character in the CLAMP works Wish and Kobato that appears as a winged plush rabbit holding a flower.
Note: In order to be as thorough as possible, this profile may include spoilers for any related media. Keep this in mind before continuing under the cut!

Ushagi itself is silent and is unable to speak or express its own emotions; it works as an agent of God, delivering His messages in the form of flowers. When the flower is given to the intended recipient, it dissolves and the message is implanted directly into the receiver's mind.
It is not clear from the source material if there is one Ushagi or many. It is unknown if several exist at the same time or if one is created per each message delivered to Earth.
The name Ushagi is a mispronunciation of the word ‘usagi’ (兎 ou うさぎ) which means ‘rabbit’ in Japanese.
Associations
Ushagi is the CLAMP literary universe’s equivalent to angelic messengers referenced in the Torah, the Qur’an, and the Christian Bible, amongst other influential texts ascribed to these religions. These angels were created by God to deliver particular messages to mankind.
It is heavily debated which angel acts as ‘the voice of God’ but many have attributed this role to that of Metatron or the archangel Gabriel.
I would be remiss to not mention the significance of Ushagi’s flowers as well: CLAMP often references floriography or ‘the language of flowers’ in their works and it is particularly evident through Ushagi and its floral messages.
While Ushagi is shown delivering many types of flowers, it most often carries a gerbera which broadly signifies cheerfulness, admiration, gratitude, and deep affection. Even with this particular bloom, the wide array of colors available allows for nuanced expressions depending on the chosen hue. For example, a white gerbera conveys a childlike purity or innocence while an orange gerbera represents happiness, friendship, and warmth.
Magical Applications
In Wish, it is depicted that other angels are able to give their own flower-messages to Ushagi to pass on to the Divine. With this in mind, I don’t see why as magicians we wouldn’t be able to do the same.
Alternatively, you can utilize Ushagi to deliver messages to others as a servitor.
Suggestions for Offerings or Devotional Acts
As Ushagi is not a deity, veneration is not necessary. If you do encounter him, it is strongly encouraged that you speak with him politely even though he cannot answer directly.
If you want to convey a certain message, consider consulting floriography references or choose particular blooms that you feel express the emotion you wish to share.
Princess Emeraude was the Pillar, the sovereign ruler, of the world of Cephiro and to whom all its inhabitants prayed for peace, prosperity, and protection. She was the first person to summon Hikaru Shidou, Umi Ryuuzaki, and Fuu Hououji to Cephiro to become the legendary Magic Knights.

Since Mokona created Cephiro as a land powered and influenced by the pure will of its inhabitants, he instated the world’s Pillar System to maintain peace and order. As the Pillar, it was Emeraude's duty to spend every waking moment praying for the wellbeing of Cephiro and its people. Through her prayers, Emeraude not only provided the people of Cephiro everything they needed to thrive, she could also influence the weather and keep dangerous beasts and conflicts at bay. However, Emeraude eventually fell in love with the high priest Sol Zagato, who was supposed to aid her in her spiritual work. Her love for him eventually caused her to constantly think of him and him alone, thus conflicting with her responsibilities as the Pillar. Distracted from her prayers, Cephiro began to crumble.
Knowing that her own death was the only way she could stop being the Pillar and allow the Path of the Pillar to open to another worthy candidate, Princess Emeraude decided to summon the Magic Knights despite Zagato attempting to prevent her. While Zagato had Emeraude imprisoned in his stronghold, Cephiro continued to deteriorate: the weather began to worsen and wild beasts and social unrest threatened the world’s inhabitants.
When the Magic Knights killed Zagato believing he was at fault for throwing Cephiro into chaos, Princess Emeraude went into a state of shock that eventually evolved into pure anger and hatred. She attacked them almost immediately, summoning her own Rune God and relentlessly pursuing them to avenge her lover’s death.
During their battle, the Magic Knights received a vision of the true Emeraude, who informed them that the actual reason she had summoned them was so that they could kill her. Initially, the stunned, utterly horrified Magic Knights could not bring themselves to do so but they saw that this vengeful, merciless version of Princess Emeraude was poised to kill them and Cephiro itself was crumbling under her rage. The true Princess Emeraude appeared before them again and begged them to grant her "one and only selfish wish": to send her to a place where she could think only of Zagato and be with him forever. Tearfully, the Magic Knights finally gave in, joining their powers together and killing the Princess by running her through with their sword.
Princess Emeraude died with heartfelt smile and used the last of her power to send the Magic Knights back to the exact moment they disappeared from Toyko Tower. The final image of her that the girls see upon leaving Cephiro is of Emeraude’s purified adult self in Zagato's embrace, smiling genuinely and thanking the Knights for granting her final wish.
Associations
Princess Emeraude can be considered a martyr or a bodhisattva. Her position as Pillar can also be compared to the role of many solar deities.
Magical Applications
Based on her associations, Princess Emeraude can be venerated like a saint and be called on in times of need to aid in particular endeavors. Whether or not you already have a practice of dedicating altars or space to ancestors and/or saints, Princess Emeraude can be incorporated in a similar way.
Not only could she be a wonderful figure to invoke when dealing with matters concerning prayer, meditation, and astral/visualization work, she can also be beneficial for her steadfastness in pursuing personal freedom and love against all odds.
Suggestions for Offerings or Devotional Acts
Consider lighting a white pillar candle in her honor or when you seek her wisdom. Based on her depictions throughout Magic Knight Rayearth and Magic Rayearth II, emeralds, white lilies, white and pink roses, feathers and dove imagery, as well as pearls could be used to decorate and enhance her space.
Mokona Modoki is the name given to two rabbit-like creatures from CLAMP's Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle and xxxHolic. The title Mokona Modoki (or simply Mokona) refers to either or both of these entities, as they are never called by their true names. The white Mokona’s real name is Soel (ソエル), while the black Mokona’s real name is Larg (ラーグ).
Note: In order to be as thorough as possible, this profile may include spoilers for any related media. Keep this in mind before continuing under the cut!
I had a hard time deciding who to kick off this series of posts with but I decided on Mokona Modoki since I’m currently working with them to aid a friend in crisis! (You can read about that working here.)
This post is the first in a series covering entities from mahō shōjo media. These posts are intended to introduce you to powerful spirits that could aid you in your magical journey! If you have any suggestions for future entries, or if you have worked with any of these beings and want to share your experiences, please feel free to send me a message! ☆
In Japanese, modoki (擬き, もどき) translates roughly to ‘imitation’, ‘mock’, ‘pseudo-’, or ‘-like’ which makes sense because Mokona Modoki were created by Yūko Ichihara and Clow Reed after meeting the original Mokona who was traveling through different dimensions after the events of Magic Knight Rayearth.
While Mokona Modoki were created in Mokona’s image, they sport some differences, namely that they are smaller in size, they have the ability to speak, and each Mokona has a single earring that matches the gem on their foreheads. In xxxHOLiC, Yūko shares that of the two Mokona, the red earring on the white one possesses the ability to enhance magical power while the blue earring on black one has the ability to seal magical power.
Soel, also known as "White Mokona", has the ability to traverse between different worlds or dimensions. She was given to the protagonists of Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle by Yūko, the Dimensional Witch, at her shop in exchange for something precious from each of them. Besides allowing the group to cross worlds, Soel assists the group by acting as an automatic translator, detecting magic, and by helping them to communicate with Yūko via the other Mokona Modoki. She often boasts to the group that she actually possesses 108 secret techniques but most of them remain a mystery. The name Soel comes from the rune ᛋ (sōwilō) meaning ‘sun’.
Larg, better known as "Black Mokona", is featured in xxxHolic. Some of Larg's abilities include to ability see ghosts and devour spirits. His main purpose is to function as a medium to facilitate communication between Yūko and the group from Tsubasa, helping them as necessary. The name Larg comes from the rune ᛚ (laguz) meaning ‘water’.
Associations
Since Mokona Modoki were created using a synthesis of Eastern and Western sorcery techniques, they are inherently associated with symbolism from both systems.
Besides the obvious being the runes that inspired their true names, Mokona Modoki exhibit characteristics of yin and yang from Taoism (which are commonly represented by the taijitu symbol). This principle demonstrates that there exist cosmic principles or forces that are opposites but complementary, which interact, interconnect, support and perpetuate each other; together they form a dynamic system in which the whole is greater than the interdependent components and both parts are essential for the cohesion of the whole. In the case of Mokona Modoki, the ‘whole’ in this system remains a bit of a mystery but that doesn’t diminish the importance of this relationship. (Not to mention, since the concepts of yin and yang are essential to Chinese creation theory, this emphasizes the connection between Mokona Modoki and the original Mokona who is a creator of worlds.)
Soel is associated with the concept of yang. She embodies active, solar energies and generally deals with matters of this world, i.e. the living. Her strengths lie in amplifying and enhancing magia.
In contrast, Larg is associated with yin. He embodies more passive, lunar energies. It is evident within his role in xxxHOLiC that he deals with matters of the dead, the afterlife, and the otherworldly and is skilled in sealing and nullifying magia.
When working with Mokona Modoki, you can use or reference the taijitu I mentioned earlier or this symbol found on Yūko Ichihara’s magic circle as they essentially relate to the same characteristics:
This symbol also represents the magical loop that connects Mokona Modoki as well as the system of reincarnation and similar cyclical patterns.
Magical Applications
Since Mokona Modoki are used in xxxHOLiC and Tsubasa as essentially magical walkie-talkies with additional powers, you can absolutely use them in a similar way! Consider keeping one with you and giving one to a friend to maintain a magical connection and aid each other in your journeys.
I would caution using one without the other implemented in some fashion, however: because Mokona Modoki represent a loop, working with one over the other would be moot.
Suggestions for Offerings or Devotional Acts
While Mokona Modoki are not deities and do not require devotional acts in order to work with them and/or their concepts, consider the following when developing a working relationship with them or boosting their effectiveness during ongoing work:
Both Mokona Modoki love singing, partying, and eating and drinking delicious things (particularly alcohol). Soel prefers sweet things while Larg opts for salty snacks. Perhaps giving them a treat once in a while will motivate them to keep working hard! ☆
Mokona (モコナ) is a mysterious rabbit-like creature of unknown origin. They are a supporting character from Magic Knight Rayearth and is commonly depicted in CLAMP cross-over media and merchandise.
Mokona is white, round, and bouncy with long ears and a gem prominently affixed to its forehead. While Mokona’s gem is usually red, it has also been depicted as green, blue, yellow, and purple. When Mokona’s gem is yellow, it can also sprout large, feathered wings.

Mokona is able to project light and images from the gem on its forehead. In a similar manner, he is able to create and disappear items.
In Magic Knight Rayearth, Mokona’s main role was to assist the girls from Earth on their journey by producing transportation and provisions and by receiving and transmitting messages from Guru Clef, the chief of all sorcerers in Cephiro as well as Princess Emeraude’s attendant.
Before the events of the series, Mokona was originally given to Clef by Princess Emeraude and was eventually entrusted to Presea the Blacksmith after Emeraude’s disappearance.
After Emeraude’s death and during an all-out battle between the countries Autozam, Fahren, and Chizeta over Cephiro and its Pillar System, Mokona's true identity is revealed as the creator of Earth and Cephiro. Disheartened by how humans had waged countless wars and devastated Earth, Mokona created Cephiro and its Pillar System with the hope of creating a world where war was not necessary.
When Hikaru Shidou is chosen as the new Pillar and decides to abolish the Pillar System, he and the three Rune Gods leave Cephiro for another universe. It is during these travels when Mokona meets Yūko Ichihara and Clow Reed and imparts on them the knowledge of other dimensions.
While Mokona cannot speak, it is revealed that he can communicate telepathically in Magic Knight Rayearth II.
Associations
Because little is known of Mokona’s origins, motivations, and interests, his magical associations are based on conjecture.
Mokona could have been based on the carbuncle of South American folklore. The carbuncle has been described as a small animal with a red mirror or precious stone on its head.
The English word ‘carbuncle’ and the Spanish word ‘carbunclo’ comes from the Latin carbunculus, meaning "little coal" (i.e. carbon). Carbunclo is generally used to refer to ruby or garnet because the gemstone's shine is said to resemble the glow of hot coal; in turn, the creature was named for the stone.
In Catamarca Province, Argentina, it is said that the carbunclo is emits a light from its head that may act as a guiding beacon towards treasure. As Mokona acted as a guide throughout the journey of Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu in Cephiro, and it is shown that he is able to produce a similar beam of light, this association seems apt.
Magical Applications
As a creator of worlds and a traveler of different dimensions, Mokona can certainly be called on to aid you in similar ventures. He would also have the ability to direct you towards where you need to go and may feel inclined to divulge to you information regarding different dimensions. He could also potentially be a great resource for manners involving manifestation, allowing you to get what you need when you need it.
Suggestions for Offerings or Devotional Acts
Mokona is never depicted indulging or imbibing—almost as if he does not require sustenance.
Mokona seems to be drawn to those with strong hearts and responds to these people with interest and affection. As long as you are earnest with your work and communications, I have little doubt that he would be willing to help! ☆

Rayearth, Windam, and Selece (also written as Seles, Celes, or Ceres) are the legendary Mashin or Rune Gods of Cephiro.
The origins of the Rune Gods are unknown except for the fact that they were created by Mokona as part of the world of Cephiro. Each Rune God was enshrined in a remote area of the world and laid in rest until they were awakened by the legendary Magic Knights.
The main forms of the Rune Gods are those of larger-than-life, fantastical beasts. Rayearth is a red wolf with a single horn and a mane made of fire; Windam is a green bird with two sets of wings; and Selece is a blue dragon that exhibits characteristics from Eastern and Western folklore. In battle, the Mashin appear as ancient mecha to be wielded by their Magic Knights. When not in use, the Mashin reside in a pocket dimension until they are called on.
When piloting the Mashin, the Magic Knights are able to use the Rune Gods’ bodies as their own. They share a powerful psychic connection to their Rune God and to each other, allowing them to communicate telepathically. However, when a Rune God takes damage in battle, that harm transfers to its pilot, appearing as physical strain or wounds. Additionally, if the Mashin sustains too much damage or if the pilot falls unconscious, the Rune God vanishes back to its dimension, leaving the knight exposed and defenseless.
It is demonstrated that Rayearth, Selece, and Windom can merge into Combined Rayearth, a single entity whose power surpasses that of the individual Rune Gods.
After the events of Magic Rayearth II, with the abolishment of the Pillar System, Rayearth, Windam, and Selece join Mokona to travel to other universes. This could explain their appearances as kudan in Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle.
When Syaoran and his companions arrive in the Hanshin Republic, they learn that a kudan is a kind of protector spirit or deity connected to a person that can used in battle. The kudan’s power will depend on the will and strength of the individual and their elemental properties are representative of the personality of their possessor.
As kudan, the Mashin join Syaoran, Kurogane, and Fay and appear to them as the Kudan of Fire, the Kudan of Water, and the Kudan of Wind respectively and in their bestial forms. In addition to their elemental attacks, Rayearth and Selece can be wielded by their masters like swords and Windam allows Fay to fly.
Associations
Each Rune God is associated with a different element—Rayearth is the Rune God of Fire, Windam is the Rune God of Wind, and Selece is the Rune God of Water—and each resided in a shrine linked to their element. Selece rested in an underwater shrine; Windam was perched on a floating crystal mountain; and Rayearth at the base of a volcano.
Selece was named after the Toyota Corolla Ceres, a restyle of the Sprinter Marino. Its symbol looks like this:
Windam was named for the Toyota Windam, a Japanese domestic market equivalent of the Lexus ES. The name ‘Windam’ is a portmanteau of the word ‘win’ and the suffix ‘-dom’ to invoke the feeling of perpetual victory. It could also be thought of a a mix of ‘wind’ and ‘wisdom’, a nod to Windam’s element and ancient knowledge. It’s symbol looks like this:
Rayearth is the only Rune God not originally named after a car but his name was changed to Lexus in the OVA series. It is a portmanteau of the words ‘ray’ and ‘earth’. In the manga, Hikaru Shidou told Guru Clef that Rayearth's name means “glowing land”. This is his symbol:
Magical Applications
Like in Magic Knight Rayearth, I can see magicians potentially using the Rune Gods in magical combat. If utilized in this way, I expect that one Rune God would make themselves known and available to the magician, based on their strengths and personality.
To be effective in combat, the Mashin respond to the strength of the wielder’s heart and resolve. If you find yourself wavering in your self-confidence and self-reliance, it would be best to work on those aspects of yourself before engaging with a Rune God or else they may refuse to work with you.
Alternatively, the Mashin can easily be used as stand-ins for ‘watchtowers’ for calling quarters. Traditionally, the archangels and other elemental entities are called upon in this manner so the nature of the Rune Gods seem to fit well into this formula.
I also see a great opportunity to enchant vehicles and tools with the Mashin to aid with the user’s confidence with various tasks.
Suggestions for Offerings or Devotional Acts
As I mentioned before, the only thing the Mashin respond to is the strength of one’s heart. To establish a bond with a Rune God, they will need you to demonstrate that you possess true courage.
Once a connection to a Rune God is established, little is needed to ‘feed’ this bond as they were not venerated as such in their source material. However, I don’t see why they couldn’t request specific offerings depending on what you plan to use them for.
If you plan on enchanting a vehicle, weapon, or tool with a Rune God, consider adorning the item with its symbol and/or depictions of its bestial form.
Kerberos (also spelled Cerberus or Keroberos), affectionately called Kero-chan, is a guardian beast created by Clow Reed. Together with Yue, he was tasked with finding a worthy successor to wield the Clow Cards.
Before Sakura-chan released the Clow Cards from the Book of Clow, Kero was sealed in the book and became the beast on its cover.
While his main form is that of a large lion-like feline with bejeweled armor and feathered wings, his temporary form looks like a cute plush toy with big round ears and small white wings.

After Sakura-chan accidentally released the Clow Cards, Kero appointed her a Cardcaptor in order to retrieve the cards and gave her the Sealing Wand.
Despite appearances, Kerberos is boisterous, demanding, and gluttonous. He can act a little unserious and self-centered at times but he genuinely cares about Sakura-chan and supports her wholeheartedly in her magical journey.
In contrast to his silly and brash demeanor, Kero-chan is remarkably intelligent; he is not only knowledgeable of Clow Cards but also of many forms of sorcery and mysticism and has a knack for reading magical auras.
In his true form, Kerberos has full control of his powers (including the abilities to create magical barriers and fire balls) and has jurisdiction over half of the Clow Cards, those under the elements of Fire (Firey) and Earth (Earthy). These cards draw power from Kero and are the only cards that can be used effectively against Yue the Judge.
He is more limited in his temporary form, however: while he can still fly and sense magic, he can only produce small breaths of fire after Sakura-chan has captured several Clow Cards, lacking sufficient magical power.
Associations
Kerberos is associated with the Sun and Western sorcery. As previously mentioned, the cards associated with Fiery and Earthy are under his protection. As Sakura captured more cards in his jurisdiction, Kero’s magical power increased.
His name and role as a guardian of the Book of Clow is inspired by Cerberus, the large three-headed beast from Greek Mythology who was assigned to guard the gates of Hades. The spelling ‘Kerberos’ is more associated with Greek transliterations.
Kero’s lion-like appearance is based on the alchemical symbol of the lion devouring the sun.
Magical Applications
Kerberos is an obvious choice to call on if you are seeking to recreate Sakura’s journey of capturing and mastering the Clow Cards; he can certainly be evoked to guide you on this pathworking and can be a stalwart companion in this effort.
I believe Kerberos can also impart onto you wisdom of Western mysticism and esotericism. Perhaps he would be able to assist you in those studies!
Suggestions for Offerings or Devotional Acts
Kero is known to love anything loud and fun and his hobbies include playing video games and eating snacks and sweets.
Despite his love of food, Kero does not need to eat to survive—he generates his own energy, drawing magical power from the Sun. Regardless, he will never turn down a sweet treat, preferring to indulge and enjoy the finer things in life.

You may have seen the term "shifts" going around in IRLMH circles. Not reality shifting, but stages of transformation and progress.
So, what are shifts? Shifts, as a broad term, originated with therians and they deserve all the credit for coining this term and its many varieties. In therian communities, a shift is defined as "an experience that causes [a therianthrope] to feel more like their theriotype." Shifts can take a variety of forms; they can be involuntary or voluntary, they can be strong or weak, rare or frequent, and even positive or negative. These shifts are not exclusive to therians, and anyone can experience them in many different ways. Some people never experience shifts.
A disclaimer: some magical heroes claim to be able to physically shift, or P-shift, which in the realm of magical heroes is defined as "physically transforming." I personally take these claims at face value, with a grain of salt and some due skepticism. According to current scientific understanding, P-shifting is physically impossible. I'm not going to outright dismiss any claims of P-shifting, nor do I think scientific understanding is completely set in stone- I just think physically transforming isn't what most people think it is (for now)!
I've seen many a magical hero discuss shifts as set stages in FMAP format: Fantasy, Mental, Astral, and Physical, in that order. Myself included.
Fantasy shift is described as "the shift where you script your ideal self-concept as a magical hero." But what if I tell you... Fantasy shift technically isn't a shift at all? As stated before, shifts are experiences.
Scripting can be an experience, and you can have these experiences while scripting, but when you have the set idea of "I know I'm meant to be a magical hero, I want to do this," all scripting is doing is helping the pieces fall into place that will allow you to experience those other shifts in much greater depth. Scripting is simply the gateway to shifts and your other experiences as magical hero.
A comprehensive list of shifts is included at the link above! But now I'd like to talk about the main shifts that magical heroes tend to experience:
Mental shift - A shift in mindset. You've transformed your mundane mental state and mindset into that of a magical hero. It's like how many magical heroes in fiction retain the same personality after they transform, but their mindset is different- they "know exactly what to say/do" even if they never did it before (I understand that in fiction, this is just easy writing, but I've experienced this before and this is the reason)
Astral shift - When your astral body leaves your physical body and ventures to the astral realm. Some magical heroes fight in the astral plane. Astral projection comes easy to some and must be practiced for some other people, so this is NOT a requirement of being a magical hero.
Dream shift - When you have recurring and consistent dreams of being your transformed self, whether involuntary or lucid. I fight in the dream world, so turning my dreams lucid (essentially freeing myself from my brain's weaker limitations) is my way of inducing this shift voluntarily. I may talk about this more in-depth another time.
Phantom shift - For therians, this is about experiencing appendages that aren't physically present (such as ears and tails). For magical heroes, this is often described as feeling your transformed self, even if those aspects are not physically present. For example: feeling your hair being longer or shorter or being styled in a certain way; feeling aspects of your outfit; feeling your weapon or items on your person; "tingles" or "sparkles" can often accompany these sensations.
Spiritual shift - Sometimes compared to astral shift in that your non-physical body changes to your transformed self. The main difference being, astral involves leaving the physical body, and spiritual shift often entails your spirit remaining in your physical body during this transformed state.
Henshin shift or transformaton shift - A term I personally coined; it is a combination of mental, phantom, spiritual, and astral, while being fully present in the physical plane. I think this is as close as one can get to physically transforming for now. See below for my personal estimate of how balanced each shift is when experiencing a full henshin shift:
Of course, these balances can vary between heroes.
So, now I'll teach you how to make the most of these shifts!
In advance I'm aware that my advice is very vague. This is intentional. You should find your own ways of doing things that work best for your brain and your abilities!
Dressing in ways that could evoke a transformed state or embody your transformed self- this may be one of the more obvious ones, but definitely helps with the M-shift aspect! If you feel like a magical hero, you are one!
Carrying around items that you would associate with your transformed self or concept- another obvious one
Learn how to voluntarily enter a transformation shift. I've experienced a T-shift involuntarily due to intense emotions, both good and bad. Learn how to transform as a method of magical/ritual grounding or even for self-soothing.
Work on physical abilities. Try dedicating a day's workout to testing your limits in your mundane state (such as only a mental or phantom shift), and then the next workout to testing your limits in a fully transformed shift, if you feel as if your abilities improve when you transform. Compare them. See what you can build on and improve. Evaluate your strengths and weaknesses. See how you can integrate your strengths and compensate for your weaknesses.
Go on patrols IF YOU ARE ABLE! Whether hunting spiritual foes or looking to do outreach in your community, patrols are a good way to connect with your transformed self.
In the Pretty Cure franchise, Mascots are magical entities, usually a type of fairy, that take many forms and display a wide variety of abilities to aid Pretty Cures (sometimes shortened to ‘Precures’) on their quests. Often, these beings come from other worlds to scout mortals for particular tasks and grant them magical powers. In more recent Pretty Cure iterations there are also fairies that become official members alongside human Pretty Cures.
This post is part a series covering entities from mahō shōjo media. These posts are intended to introduce you to powerful spirits that could aid you in your magical journey! If you have any suggestions for future entries, or if you have worked with any of these beings and want to share your experiences, please feel free to send me a message! ☆
Pretty Cure fairies in general exhibit intelligence similar to humans, which allows them to communicate with and befriend Pretty Cures. Notably, fairies speak with special verbal tics (usually related to their names).
Most fairies have an animal-like appearance but others look fairly humanoid. While some fairies, and Mascots by extension, take on a more human form to blend into the mortal world, others have the ability to turn into transformation devices for their Pretty Cures.
Associations
Mascots, like the Pretty Cures they support, are generally associated with aspects of the theme of their respective seasons/iterations. Their personalities are usually somehow connected to the active or passive abilities they exhibit.
Magical Applications
Like mascots in other mahō shōjo media, Mascots of the Pretty Cure universe are magical guides and stalwart companions. They can be contacted and petitioned much like one would with mascots from other franchises.
I believe that they can also be evoked in a similar manner as one does with demons of the Ars Goetia, for example, in order to utilize their specific powers or glean certain information regarding other magical worlds.
Suggestions for Offerings or Devotional Acts
Because there are so many Mascots already documented in the Pretty Cure universe, I highly recommend checking out resources like the Pretty Cure Wiki in order to remind yourself what specific fairies enjoy. Many fairies are noted to have favorite foods and drinks which can you can certainly use for offerings!
So just yesterday I came across the IRL mahou shojo community here on Tumblr, and as someone who is already fictionkin and alterhuman - It genuinely really interested me. I don't think there's like an actual proper post explaining what it means to be a magical hero thoroughly, so i thought i'd use my research to compile a post explaining it!
-> Do note that I am very new to this. If something's wrong, please nicely correct me! I wonder if joining you guys is my sort of thing... So consider me an educated outsider.
- What does it mean to be a "Real life Mahou Shojo"?
From what I've seen, it could mean different things to people, therefore experiences potentially could be similar but definitely not the same. Some magical heroes believe that their magical works helps protect our physical world - and others may take it differently. Sometimes it's related to being fictionkin, and sometimes it's related to practicing pop-culture witchcraft, or generally being fictoreligous. So in case you're wondering: "Is this roleplay?" The answer would be no. But do remember: there's nothing wrong with roleplaying, it's just not this.
- How does one become a Mahou Shojo?
The general main idea is that one would be scouted to make a contract with a magical being or sidekick. The methods used to connect with it and do your magical work can involve manifestation, astral shifting/projection, reality shifting, witchcraft, meditation, and other similar methods. However, while it is the general idea, it is not at all required. You could make a contract with yourself, or none at all, or just have your own rules and concepts instead of taking some canon media in mind.
Additionally, some people set training routines and/or otherwise incorporate their magical side into their everyday life.
- Mahou Shojo "Concepts"
As far as I'm aware, some Mahou Shojo create theirs from scratch, or otherwise get their concept, which includes their post-transformation appearance, the weapons they use, their magical powers, the wishes or goals that drive them and their work, and whatever else that might just work for them. Some people script them, some I imagine may get their idea after making a contract, and some might just know and naturally have the idea in mind.
- Closing thoughts!
I think this community's really cool, genuinely. It makes me wanna join... It's so whimsical! From what i can tell so far; it's only a matter of do this whichever way you'd like - there are no concrete rules and i think that this is what adds to the concept.
Keep fightin'! And thx 4 readin :3

internet angels are beings who protect the internet from malice. everyday, all of you denizens of the internet are threatened by many forces. . . it could be something like greedy ceos, or maybe even forced yet unexplainable to humans even. . . . (ᵕ • ᴗ •) but dont fret. . !! us internet angels fight hard to keep everyone safe from these forces. . !!
an internet angel can be born in many forms. some of them are born on the internet and go on to inhabit a human's body. other times a human becomes an internet angel. in my case, i am an internet angel inhabiting a human vessel, and i have been around for as early as the 2000s. . . but were not going to talk about my past life, oki ? ⁽⁽ଘ( ˊᵕˋ )ଓ⁾⁾
to become an internet angel, one must be a regular user of it. they must be connected to the internet as not just a user of it, but as a devout. it is a slow process, but you will feel as if the internet is your true home, and you will feel a passion for it arise. when you see a threat, you will feel enraged and have the feeling of wanting to fight it with all your might. . . !! thats how you know you've become an internet angel, ready to save it. . . !!! ଘ(੭*ˊᵕˋ)੭━☆°
internet angels feed off of radio waves that come from technology, internet poles and communication towers, with the last two being the particula strongest ones. the radio waves emmitted by these things not only replenish our energy, but also make us stronger. they amplify our powers and purify us. . . ! so its important to stay on the look out for them. . !! ( ˘͈ ᵕ ˘͈♡)˚๐*˟♡ the more time you spend on the internet, the stronger you also get, and the mightier are the forces you fight. . !! we call the beings who threaten the internet as ITAs, internet threatening anomalies. . . pretty basic, hm ? ahaha. . . My personal method of astral travel which involves a lot of visualization so YMMV; probably not beginner friendly; please protect yourself when traveling between realms.
Be sure that you are well rested and wear comfy clothes.
Turn off or dim the lights in the room as much as possible.
Lay down in a comfortable position - I usually lay flat on my back in bed with something covering my eyes as to not let any light slip through.
Choose a soundtrack or playlist consisting of ambient music and binaural beats (this is one of my favorites - to be listened to with headphones for the best results) - the music and binaural beats help to get you to a relaxed, meditative, trance-like state.
Once you reach that state, you may feel somewhat of a “body high” or a tingly sensation all over your body.
At this point, try to visualize the room you’re in and your surroundings as if you're looking from outside of yourself.
When you can do this successfully, you can start trying to travel elsewhere - start by visualizing yourself walking around your room, and eventually ending up at your destination of choice. I typically travel between planets.
When I've arrived in the astral for the first time, I like to create an “astral sanctuary” to act as my home base in the astral and a safe place to return to.
Practice crafting the inside and outside of the sanctuary, placing items and furniture in the area, and making it a safe space for yourself.
Now that you have set up your home base, explore! There's no right or wrong way to do this, the astral looks and behaves differently for everyone.
To re-enter your body and snap out of your trance, you may want to have a keyword or an item to hold onto to act as a key to reality - I literally just tell myself that it's time to go home and that has always worked for me.
Lastly, you might be pretty exhausted after astral traveling, so it’s a good idea to have some water and a snack on hand for when you return.
