In the wake of the Grammy nominations it feels like a good time to talk about how we deal with people other than Taylor at awards shows. It's okay if she doesn't win. It doesnt necessarily mean that she is being snubbed or the awards people have no taste. And even if she is, there is a time and place for that discussion, and it's not when someone else is making their acceptance speech, because that other person is likely deserving of their moment. There are other artists who deserve to win awards too, whose art is incredible and ground-breaking and innovative, and we should celebrate that rather than tearing them down or being snide just because they aren't Taylor. There's a reason people say it's an honour just to be nominated - being acknowledged as one of a small number of excellent artists is a huge achievement, and just because by nature only one can be awarded doesn't mean the other nominees are lesser. Take the 2014 Grammys - Red was an incredible album, but that doesnt mean Random Access Memories wasn't incredible too. Most - if not all - of the nominees for an award deserve to win. And while it's okay to be disappointed or disagree with the results, that doesn't mean we can abandon common decency and good manners when we blog about it later. Just... be tactful with your responses, please. I know there's this sense that tumblr is a hidden, insular corner of the internet but it's not. It's a public platform (and we know that people like Buzzfeed and Perez Hilton have seen swiftie posts before) and hurtful comments have their way of finding their way to their target.
