I knew him for quite a while now, yet I knew nothing. We joked around here and there, having phantasies, watching movies. But lately he was getting more and more specific. 'What if's got more serious, phantasies he told felt more real until one evening he topped it all.
"What if I really could do that? What, if I had this ability for years, maybe my whole life"
I couldn't reply. He was kidding! Yet, my heart felt different.
"What, if all those phantasies, all those stories, are a way for me to share, to get it out while I'm so scared to reveal."
My heart began to pound heavier. "You're... stop joking with me... I"
"I cant keep it anymore. I..."
"Then don't" I said without thinking. He looked at me in a long silence. I liked him. Very much. He was one of my best buds, and more. And in that moment, I felt closer then ever, yet I feared to be ripped away, felt the urge, the risk, him, beeing so honest, so serious. And whatever happened, could go either way. I nodded as to inforce my words, to show my trust when a part of me was scared, scared of what might happen.
Another long minute passed. Then he went to the mirror, breathing heavily. I felt like stunned, looking ar him, wishing to give him closure, but I couldn't, I looked at himwith all my kindness towards him.
Then he looked in the mirror, and something happened. He seemedvto concentrate, closed his eyes, and all his body began to tense up, his muscles, his skin, sweating up. And there it was. He... changed! Slowly at first. I wondered if it really happened, or if my eyes were wrong. But soon, there was no doupt. His skin went darker, his hair went brown, grew a little, his features changed, strangely at first, but then they resembled this kind, handsome other face while his whole body grew into another man.
I nearly slipped, fainted at the sight.
Finally I stepped towards him, looking at his eyes, his body until my hands touched his side. I never felt this close to him. And my lips soon touched his shoulder before they formed the words I haven't be brave enough to think up until now, but always had:
"I love you"...
