WHY THE IDGAF MINDSET IS BAD FOR U
The "idgaf" mindset has become very popular in recent years. It emerged as a way to learn to stop worrying about the opinions of others and to live a detached and free life, and I myself followed this mentality However i started to really think about it and discovered many flaws in this mindset so I'm sharing them on my blog ofc ♡ according to psychology
1. the natural sensitivity of human beings
This mindset claims that whoever adopts it will instantly stop caring about the opinions of others, as if adopting this mentality directly changes everything and allows you to remain detached from everyone. This is where the brain's natural sensitivity comes into play; it's called negativity bias. The human brain is literally programmed to focus on potential danger, therefore on the negative. Unfortunately, trying to force yourself to adopt a detached mindset won't work and will only make you feel guilty. It is, of course, possible to improve this negativity bias, but not to eliminate it completely It's normal to be concerned about the opinions of others and to be a little hurt by an unpleasant remark (so don't be hard with yourself angels ♡)
2. perfectionism about your normal feelings
It's well known that our emotions aren't meant to be perfect we aren't meant to be detached from everything. Unfortunately, by adopting this mentality, many inflict this suffering upon themselves. Imagine always having to pretend that nothing affects you, Honestly it impacted me, but especially my friend who was forcing herself to remain detached from other people's opinions. She wanted all her feelings to be perfect, yet that's impossible we're made to feel negative sometimes.
3. the guilt-tripping
With perfectionism comes guilt, and what could be more destructive than starting to feel guilty about your own feelings This mindset will make you believe that worrying is a sign of weakness and that your emotions are invalid ( it’s literally stupid ) Personally, I felt a lot of guilt about it. I'm a very sensitive girl ( don't make me cry TWT) so trying to act like nothing affected me made me feel very guilty and with the machinery of social media, people pretend in front of others that they don't care about anything, and you wonder why you can't just not care about anything. And it's very likely that you start trying to perfect your emotions It usually won't work and will make you feel guilty
Of course, this doesn't apply to everyone, and this mentality suits some people ( i love saying something and then say the opposite ) But I think it's important to give my opinion so you can think about it for yourselves I hope you liked this; it takes me a lot of time to write all of this lol
Au revoir ♡
