focus on your character’s personalities and find out + develop their attachment style. are they reserved and cut themselves off from their s/o? are they romantic and devoted, swooning and following after them? are they anxiously dedicated, on guard for them 24/7 and constantly needing reassurance, giving them panicked phone calls at 4 am? establishing this can HEAVILY help with angst especially if they have opposite attachment styles to each other.

what was their childhood like (within reason)? do they have siblings, and were/are their siblings protective or mean to them? what is/was their parents’ opinion on them? did any big negative incidents happen when they were younger?unresolved issues from childhood can cause a deeper rift in their relationship or mental health and it’s a good thing to explore when making angst!

this adds on to the first one a little as well but what’s their general opinion on intimacy and/or physical touch? are they uncomfortable with it? do they crave it and just never ask or initiate it? this can help with adding some complexity to your character’s relationships if they also have different opinions on intimacy.

what do you MEAN your caretaker isn’t just another whumpee in disguise who’s only hiding their feelings so they don’t worry anyone? pretending to be okay and to be handling things well, but still burdened by whatever whumper’s done to them both?

When a whumpee breaks a glass and has a panic attack, only for their lover, caretaker, to come and comfort them (I have written this before with my OCs, twas super fun hehe)

Character A sits with their bare back against the cold bathroom wall, wincing as the air vent's freezing wind stings their arm, when they suddenly hear the front door open from outside.

"No, no, fuck, character B isn't supposed to be here," they panic, but they're frozen in place against the tile as B calls out their name, walking closer and closer to the bathroom. "Are you in here?" B asks, but A's mouth ran dry a long time ago, and the door finally opens, revealing B looming over them.
