season 1: -how is the op so relevant and so not-representative of the manga at the same time

-the manga itself isn't fast-paced exactly-but in a good way. but the anime is even more slow-paced in an awkward way? is it energy? does it lack energy? the sound is off? like the voice actors aren’t supported by the technical side of things? or the directing side of things? idk. it feels empty.

-my first impression is "low effort anime for a high-high-high effort manga," but we'll see

-the characters have more personality in the manga. i said what i said.

-am i tripping, the ayakashi look like something out of dandadan. (yes, i am aware noragami came first)

-i don't vibe with the music.

-gods don't poop, but do they pee? a sentence i never thought i'd write.

-and just. in the manga the change between light-hearted yato and serious yato is so subtle and seamless... in the anime it's like flipping a switch. it annoys me.

-one thing they do right is the yato-yukine bickering

-kazuma sounds exactly like i imagined, bless

-daikoku is good.

-THEY LEFT OUT YUKINE STEALING MONEY FROM HIYORI?! WHY?!?!?!?! THAT WAS A BIG THING!! they sanitized my child :') 

-the ablution scene was well-done, thank you.

-the problem is, if you frame rabou as yato's old partner, you erase the entire point of "yato had literally no one except father and the stray." which changes yato's origins. but was all that published in the manga at the time the anime was made, i don't know.

season 2 and OVAs -"kyouran hey kids" is from noragami??? i love this song omg. instant brownie points to s2

-yukine asking yato if hiyori will forget them when she gets old when actually it's when she gets old(er) that she remembers :')

-i'm just in ep 2 but everything's better than s1, the pace, the energy. it's more engaging, i'm actually reacting emotionally. and yato feels more like yato, and hiyori more like hiyori. idk, is it the s2 character designs, the dialogue pace, something. the only complaint i have about yato is that it feels as though they're not letting him not-be-a-hero if that makes sense? it feels like even when he’s "dangerous," he's still supposed to be seen as a hero, instead of letting him just be? like, his "questionable" moments don't pack a punch is what i'm saying.

-the yato killing veena's shinki sequence, great

-yato when yukine is "killed" and he screams "YUKINEEE!!" honestly that's one of the first sounds/visuals i associate with yato, him screaming "YUKINEEE!!" ahaha <3

-like, this is not nearly enough to go head to head with the manga or be its equal-ish, but it's more faithful and entertaining than s1

-yato as hiyori in the OVA is actually funny, i laughed. and it's well-done, you can really see yato's expressions in hiyori

-the ski OVA is so unexpectedly surprisingly in character, lol! good job.

-dude the voice acting is so much smoother and natural this season

-still, it doesn't have that dark undercurrent vibe that noragami lives in.

-amaterasu was benched i see. 

-you know, you really see how tight the manga is when even the little details the anime leaves out or changes, immediately make the whole thing more shallow. like, due respect, but the fact that yato released the stray all on his own had more gravity. it took guts. he was all alone, he and the stray and their long and deep history, choosing to do something for himself and yukine without expecting yukine to know. it was more intimate, private, harsh. and this is SO yato, one of his defining traits is taking care of his people in ways they're never supposed to know. if you remove those kind of things, the construction deflates. even with seemingly little things that maybe the production team at the time thought were harmless changes like yato holding ebisu in his final moments rather than bisha - that moment defined so much what came next for bisha that it’s a disservice to her character to take it away from her.
