Kyndal was listening to Jamya go on about her first time as she did on the 4th of July, when she opened her locker and found a note stuffed on the side of the mirror she hung inside it. She grabbed the two books she needed and the note and made her way to Mr. Turley’s class. Being a minute late to Calculus is like falling asleep and missing the semester. Motivated by curiosity about what was in the note, she took a quicker route than her friends and made it to class 3 minutes before it started. She quickly made her way to the back of the class and found a seat in a nearby corner. She got settled and quickly opened the note before someone came into the class and got in her business. She unfolded the notebook paper and was relieved as she read the words written on it.

As her classmates filled up the small room, Kyndal hurriedly folded the note and stuffed it in the large compartment of her backpack. She got out everything she needed for class, and said a silent prayer that 3 would come soon, just as her friends sat beside her.
“What had you in such a rush?”
“Yeah, last time you disappeared on us like that is when we went to that semi-annual sale at PINK.”
“Sorry, I found a note in my locker that had me confused, but turns out it was from Jimmy.”

“I got this, Jamya. Let me help the slow get up to speed with us normal folks. Today is Monday, and Homecoming is next Friday. All of a sudden, today, your boyfriend leaves you a love note telling you to meet him after school for something. Don’t tell me you don’t know what that means. “
“Since you're getting me up to speed, why don’t you tell me what it means?”
“Oh my god, Kyndal! How touched are you girl? Clearly, he plans on asking you to the homecoming dance after school. “
It all started to click in Kyndal’s mind. The quick realization had her feeling her face become warm as she was embarrassed that she didn’t catch on after reading the note, as her friends did.
“I feel so stupid.”
“Love you boo, but when it comes to common sense, yours isn’t so common.”
“Whatever, let’s get this worksheet done. The faster the day goes, the quicker I can get to 3:00.” With that, the girls worked together completing all the assigned problems for the class period and spent the rest of the period discussing the new music piece they practiced that morning in choir. While talking with her friends, Kyndal felt something hit her desk. She looked down and saw that it was a paper airplane. She picked it up and opened it only to see it was another note from Jimmy, who was three seats across from her. He came to class 2 minutes after the tardy bell as usual. She read the note that stated, “Did you get my note earlier?” She looked up and instantly made eye contact with him and responded with a head nod, letting him know she received the note from earlier. He gave a soft smile and mouthed “see you later,” and she responded with a warm smile.
Once Calculus ended, it seemed like the rest of the day hit fast forward because next thing you know, Kyndal looked up and she was turning in her exit ticket for Physics class. The familiar ringing of the dismissal bell had her shooting out of the class and dashing through the entrance doors of the school, leaving her friends behind, or so she thought. She begins to make her way toward the special tree where Jimmy asked her to be his girlfriend during their 9th-grade year, and soon she spots a familiar orange practice jersey.
“Excuse me, I’m looking for my boyfriend. Have you seen him? He's tall, just got a haircut, a football player, and did I mention he was soooo fine?” That made Jimmy turn around, greeting her with a smile. “ I might have seen him. He sounds really familiar.”

“So if we’re meeting under our tree, this must be something very important.”

“Yes! Yes! Yes! I would love to !” She jumped into his arms, and as the couple embraced each other the heard the sound of a flash go off. Kyndal turned around and saw Kelly holding her camera. Standing with Jey, Cody, Angelo, Montez, Jamya, and a few of Jimmy’s other friends.
“You all knew about this?”
“I support everything dealing with romance and happiness. You should know this by now. Jimmy asked us to help put everything together, and you know I couldn’t say no to anything involving my girl.”
“I appreciate y’all’s help fr I wouldn’t have been able to pull this off without y’all.” Both friend groups shared their support for the couple, and then everyone went their separate ways for the day.
Later that night, Kyndal got on the phone with the girls, and they all started working on organizing their homecoming plans.
“Ok, so my sister works at Berns, and she said she’ll put back some of the new inventory that comes in on Friday, so we can get first pick on a dress.”
“Cool, I can use my employee discount at Charlotte Rouse for our heels.”
“Ok, and Kyndal, did you ask your auntie if she could do hair and make-up next Friday?”

Next Wednesday
The countdown to Homecoming was slowly coming to an end, and the way all the seniors were running around gave away how little time they had to prepare. Jimmy and Kyndal both had jam-packed schedules between school work, football, and choir practice, plus all their extra time was going into getting everything they needed for Homecoming ready. “Actually, I saved up from working all summer and got myself a room at Embassy Suites for the night. I told him I would crash at Dustin’s if it got too late.”

“She's not ready, and I’m respecting that. In case y'all forgot, I’m a gentleman imma wait as long as my girl needs me to.”

“You sound dumb as fuck, and usually Jamya says shit like this to you, so you know I’m heated. You did not ‘blow up’ for starters, you only gained a little weight, and you made it tone out when we started working out that same summer. Time flew by, and before they knew it, Homecoming was here. The girls were almost done getting ready. They were waitng on Kyndal’s makeup to be finished so they coukd slide their dresses on. As her aunt began spraying the last of the setting spray, they instantly raced to change into their dresses and shoes, and shortly each girl made her way downstairs to meet her date. Jamya would leave shortly after their pictures due to Montez parents also wanting them to take pictures at their house. As the girl made their way to their dates, they saw Jimmy standing there nervous.

Jimmy always praised her looks and each time felt like the first time, but for some reason, the way he said that made her feel a little bit of something else. The couple took pictures and headed to the dance.
Entering the building the loud bass of “Happy” by Ashanti was thumping as they walked into the student center where the dance was held. Jimmy and Kyndal danced the night away until they both were tired and her feet started to hurt. “You wanna sit down ?”

The couple laughed and sat down as they began to talk about everything they missed during the time they were separated, leading up to this week.
