This is a psychotic thing to say. Without god, we use our senses to observe the physical world we inhabit. We measure the results of our actions to determine which actions are most beneficial. We can easily see that tolerating unjust killings, theft, etc is unsustainable for society. The standard is the physical reality we share.

Meanwhile, those who believe god is a moral authority somehow overlook his many abuses. God is not grounded in observable reality, he can be whatever a believer wants him to be. If god says "it is good," they believe it is good, even though "good" has no definition and seems to include slave rape and genocide. God is no standard for morality or anything else.

Backwards, magical thinking is deadly. There are no limits to what can be done in the name of a god who does not exist. Accountability becomes impossible when the justification is "a wizard did it".

We are accustomed to using the singular pronoun for all our individual actions! "I bought this. I did this. I saw this. I felt this. I touched this. My stomach hurts. I have a pain in my arm. I went out with her." We do this automatically, naturally, and it becomes second nature!

Using singular pronouns as an attachment to every thought and action we make and do, gives us the impression that there is a singular entity doing all of this! We then have this conception that, somewhere and it is mysteriously out-of-reach, there is this singular entity with a shape, purpose, and design. We might view this singular entity as being inside our head, inside our brain, and is our mind.

We probably view our mind as this singular identity. This is another structure created by the vortex of illusions! Have you observed directly this singular entity that dwells somewhere inside you, or it has direct access to all your movements and thoughts? No? But this singular entity must have a structure, at least a skeleton of existence! There must be something there? This is the vortex of illusions!

The vortex of illusions are emotional attachments with beliefs, conceptions, and understanding!

It is your body doing, initiating, and controlling all the movements. It is the body's heart that beats the blood faster after the body has done 30 minutes of intensive exercises! It is an emotion of the body that prompts certain thoughts, feelings, and actions. Every movement and every thought is initiated and controlled by the body. Not from any singular entity! Not from any "I"! Not from any singular mind!

Most people won't acknowledge or don't want to talk about the second one. It's why atheists are consistently ranked as the least trustworthy and least electable religious minority, it's why there's not a single open atheist in Congress and only .2% who are unaffiliated, it's why Jewish and Muslim faith leaders are joining evangelical Christians in suing to force prayer to be allowed in public schools, it's why people are fine with others talking about their faith but if an atheist brings up their beliefs it's viewed as inherently rude and aggressive, it's why there are people who may not like other religions but they hate atheists because they genuinely believe that you cannot be a good person without religion in your life, it's why there's so many posts on this website about how "you don't have to be religious but you DO have to believe in something!"

Many reasons. First, the god described in the bible, the one you are repeatedly instructed to worship and obey, often attempts to solve the problems he created with violence and slaughter (e.g., flooding the world, except that only confirmed that the humans he created will always be shitty and was a huge waste of life). Second, Jesus is depicted as a human sacrifice, and much like the flood it didn't actually do anything to help. Many christians still perform the ritual of eating his body and drinking his blood, saying "Thank you for dying for us, dying is the best thing a person can do." They believe in a happy afterlife, which completely devalues our real lives and incentivizes death.
