Yeah, dude. I am politically motivated by the desire to not support someone with a nazi tattoo.

I watched this episode of something a while back (I forget what) where a tattoo artist who was a skinhead was talking about how he covers up nazi tattoos for free. People who've gotten out of the life and are trying to be better but have this permanent reminder of their shameful past on their skin. Men who were incarcerated and joined nazi gangs because it seemed like a way to survive and later regretted it. That sort of thing. And this guy is using his work as a way to make amends and help people move on and make better choices.

I think it's admirable to learn and grow. I don't expect the individual people who were harmed to forgive them, or assume people in communities they targeted will trust them without their own proof. But if there's true rehabilitation and they regret what they've done and show that through their actions moving forward, saying "but you were a nazi, once evil always evil" is only going to serve to drive them back to that life.

AND YET

All Platner has done is make excuse after excuse. Every single direct quote I've heard from him has been attempting to handwave and discredit the people with concerns rather than taking ownership over the choices about what he put on his body. Regardless of whether you want to believe he didn't know what it meant at the time (I don't believe it, fwiw), THAT is the thing that's more concerning than anything. No responsibility or honesty.
