This might be a long list:
What were the matters in the books that were never addressed or poorly addressed?
Everything about the Roman demigods, imo especially Jason, basically, we never truly got a story on Jason and/or Camp Jupiter like we did with CHB in PJO, which made it hard for a lot of people to connect with them (the Romans). Also the issues with how absolutely nerfed Jason was (unconsciousness solved all of rick’s issues fleshing out Jason’s character). Jason fought the other side of the titans war? Fought Krios barehanded (or at least toppled the throne barehanded), somehow survived the wolf house at like 2-3 years old (how?) And like everything else about his fighting skills and his life at Camp Jupiter was kinda just left hanging (I adamantly refuse to believe Jason, who fought his whole life and trained his whole life, would actually lose to Percy who found out gods existed like 3-4 years ago. Jason’s also hera’s champion and Percy no longer had Achilles’ curse, so ???) We never saw Jason at his strongest (at least not when he was the focal character), with all his memories and stuff intact. And there was just so many other in resolved things about Camp Jupiter and how it worked (child soldiers while adults leisured? Training? Child care? New Rome in general?) and world building and stuff that needed to be addressed but never really addressed (at least not to the extent I would’ve liked). Also Jason and Percy’s rivalry was so weird. Some weird alpha dominance and masc reason that didn’t really make sense bcuz the two of them didn’t want to be leaders in the first place (I think they would’ve willingly given up the head of the table to Annabeth and not fought e/o for it). There are posts out there (idk where they are in the tags but they’re there) that give so many more valid reasons for Jason and Percy to fight, if they had to fight (why do they in the first place, the whole point was for the Greeks and Romans to get along and Percy doesn’t believe in godly issues interfering with his personal relations (I.e. rivalry btwn Poseidon versus Zeus) and Jason never met the gods in the first place) And more but that’s the biggest issue on my mind rn. I will edit when more come up because i feel this may become a post where I just rant about PJO/HoO and the issue I have with some of it.
Holy s-! I never received notification for this, why--- I’m glad I chose to check the post.
Thank you so much for your input, it helps out a lot!
P.S. I'll periodically check in case you edit.
I’m glad my brain rots are helpful! I’ll see if I remember to edit and update my opinions lol
Hello again, it’s me on my rants again, I figured that reblogging is easier than editing my post so if this gets annoying I’m sorry, I’ll switch back to the original plan of editing if you want me to. Also this is a long one, so i hope you don’t mind reading.
But moving on, more things that I felt canon did not do well enough:
Why did Hera have to plant fake memories into piper and Leo? Jason is hero complex enough with his stupid golden boy personality hammered into him by expectations (and his inability to not care for people he barely knows (I.e. Nico for a direct example)) that he would’ve tried to save them from Dylan and the venti even without fake knowing them? Coach hedge would’ve sensed he’s a demigod anyways (even if he felt a little bit off) and he still would’ve of been brought to camp (because how is a demigod that powerful smelling and that old surviving outside of camp? - hedge probably)
Along the same lines I get that Percy remembering annabeth was for the shippers but like why? Within the world Hera would’ve had no reason to keep that memory with Percy? It also just showed how much Rick preferred Percy over Jason (yes it showed in his writing that Jason wasn’t a character he either wrote well or even liked to write, unlike Percy who he made so overpowered even though he hasn’t been a demigod long and he was strong just because he was a big three child and like just main character syndrome idk does that make sense?)
Also how did the two of them start remembering? I haven’t read the books in a while but I just think the way their amnesia being cured suddenly was weird.
I personally think Jason should’ve canonically spent more time in the Wolf house and should have had more wolf like battle and social behavior as demigods are only sent to camp from the wolf house after they are deemed ready, I refuse to believe that after spending just one year at the wolf house Lupa would deem Jason ready to go to camp at 3 YEARS OLD ???? He would’ve been trained more (however brutally, or if we want less angst also cared for but canonically not true as we are told it’s kill or be killed there kinda). So Jason should’ve had like at least 3 years at the wolf house (until he was 5) and then sent to camp where he immediately started legion training because wow a son of Jupiter! Need to be trained to help on quests.
Also along the same lines of needing more camp Jupiter backstory, we need the quests the Romans went on, they can’t be the same as Greek ones, they would probably follow Roman myths, and idk how does camp Jupiter function as a demigod camp Rick? Huh mr. Author who gave us lovable characters but no background for them?
Reyna. How did she get to camp, leaving Circe’s island, how did she get praetorship? How did she get scipio? And her dogs? And like a lot of other details about her?
The power difference between Greek and Roman demigods. What? Like Hazel and Nico have a big power difference despite having the same dad (yes different domains and everything but still) like Hazel just doesn’t give overpowered big three kid the same way Percy and Nico do. Jason doesn’t give overpowered big three kid either. Hazel and Jason seem weak in comparison to Percy and Nico despite their godly parentage being equally strong. Idk this just bothered me, if you’re gonna make a certain type of character powerful, keep it consistent. Like big three kids were oh so rare and oh so powerful but oop that doesn’t apply to the romans.
Also the differences between roman and Greek fighting styles were highlighted but it was never mentioned how the seven solved these differences in strategy when fighting? Like they had to have had this conversation (or argument idk) about fighting and how they believed it worked.
I also disliked how left behind roman demigods were, greek demigods at least saw their parents like at some point, romans just don’t. They get no attention from the gods and just in general seem detached from the gods (is this why they’re weaker? Idk it just seemed weird) like Rome was just as big and important as Greece in terms of shaping the myths surrounding the gods, why are they not interacted with at all?
Caleo. That’s it, I just have an issue with it. Like I get why calypso needed to be mentioned again. But why. Why does this relationship have to happen? Why does Leo need to be in a relationship? There was literally such a good set up for Leo to be somewhere on the AroAce spectrum (as he didnt feel connected to other humans as much as he saw others were and felt pressured to do so and act like that as well to an extent), and the even if leo wasn’t the relationship is just kinda creepy. If Leo had to be in a relationship with someone for the sake of plot and omg all of the seven have to be dating or something so Leo’s not a seventh wheel (he isn’t by the way, that’s just nemesis and we could’ve had a whole plot of Hazel and Leo ignoring what nemesis said) don’t put him with a goddess older than even his dad and the olympians ok? Like what?
Ok that’s it for now, thanks for reading and I’ll be back (maybe) with more whenever these brain rots come up. Have a nice day!
No, not a maybe. You have to come back (please) haha. This is giving me a lot to work with. And I will reblog everytime you do. Thank you so much again for all your input!
No problem! I’m glad that my over analyzing of books is helpful!
I have two short random ones as a side note since I don’t have anything else for now.
Haha I’m back, I just saw a post that reminded me of something and I needed to add it to this list before I forgot: (also I had to pin this on my blog so I don’t lose it, i reblog too many things lol)
What was the wilderness school? We never got piper and Leo’s actual memories of the place and it’s lessons. We never got any background or characters from it other than the godly related ones. We just have no idea what it is and how it affected piper and Leo’s childhood and growth and all that. It kinda just is there as a plot device that’s left hanging? Like a backstory that is there but doesn’t truly exist. I think we should’ve seen more of how it worked and how it affected piper and Leo’s view of the world and just how it functioned as a whole.
But yes that’s it for now. Bye!
