compulsion; the ability to control and manipulate the body, mind, and soul of an animal or person.

telepathy; the ability to enter the mind of others; as an original, he has one of the strongest minds in the world. subsets: dream manipulation and illusion.

photographic memory; the minds of originals can hold a staggering amount of information, and are able to perfectly recall things that happened centuries or even many millennia ago.

werewolf bite; due to his werewolf heritage, klaus has venom which is fatal to non-original vampires and klaus himself is immune to werewolf venom. klaus' venom seems to take effect much faster than normal werewolf venom and non-original hybrid venom.

werewolf bite cure; klaus' blood is the only cure for a werewolf bite, this ability seems to be unique only to klaus and hope.

aura; a subtle, "luminous radiation" that surrounds klaus that could alter the emotions and energy levels of himself and others. he can generate an aura within himself. the aura is created by the power, longevity, strength and personality/emotions of the ancient vampire. his aura changes based on his emotions; most notably, when angry, it's a bloody red color, giving off the feeling of evil and can create fear in anyone approaching him.

WEREWOLF SIDE.

size and strength; one of the most notable differences from canon, klaus' wolf is huge. he surpasses the height of the average human, around 6'10, and his strength is immense.

temperature; before he unlocked his wolf side, his skin was cool, like all other vampires. however, since becoming a hybrid, he now runs warm (around 106°F). wolves (and dogs) are known to be little heaters, and this applies to klaus' wolf as well, which extends to his human (vampire?) form. he's able to easily withstand extreme cold, though he struggles a tad with hot weather and will often complain about humidity and high temperatures.

the wolf; i will often refer to his wolf almost as though it's a separate entity from klaus himself. this is mostly true, though he certainly has a level of control of the creature. i don't really know how to describe it other than it's as though he literally has a wolf living inside him that's always trying to get out; this will lead to outbursts when he's frustrated / angry, and he will often growl during these moments, along with perhaps his claws and / or glowing eyes showing for a moment. this is klaus losing a bit of his grip on the metaphorical leash he has on the beast within, and elements of the animal coming through. his wolf is oddly protective of him, often fighting to the surface to defend or avenge him.

alpha; he is the alpha of his pack, meaning he is both in charge of and responsible for every member of his pack. he takes this role very seriously, doing everything he can to guide and protect them. he considers his pack to be an extension of his family, and would care for them accordingly. similarly to twilight's wolves, he is telepathically linked to his hybrids and any wolves in his pack, allowing them to communicate over great distances.

hunger; as discussed in his bio, klaus has a deep-seated hunger to him that impacts every part of him. when he was just an original vampire, he already had to feed more than the average vampire to sustain himself. due to his age and the level of power that results from it, he needs large quantities of blood to fuel it. triggering his wolf side only doubled the amount of blood he needs, and added in a drive for the hunt and the ferociousness of a wolf.

anger; klaus of course already had anger issues before freeing his wolf, and his rage has only been exacerbated by his nearly constant battle for supremacy with his wolf. while this certainly doesn't excuse his hotheadedness or what he does while in a rage, it does offer an explanation. the wolf always craves battle, bloodshed, excitement in general, and frequently tries to push klaus in the direction of the choice that would give it any of the three. this is a big cause of his impulsive decision making, and a major reason he can fly off the handle so easily.

mates; wolves are known to mate for life, and klaus' wolf is no different. given that he already tended to remain in love with someone for decades (even if he couldn't have them - staring at stefan), this tenacity is only bolstered by his wolf side. once he has taken a lover (or more than one; he might be able to share) and they have been deemed worthy of mate status, he will be endlessly devoted to them. loving, in his own way at least, very protective and possessive, perhaps to an annoying degree. even in a rage, his mate(s) would be able to soothe him and his wolf, calming him like none other can.

transformation; unbeholden to the moon thanks to his hybrid status, klaus can transform at will. while still an exceedingly painful process, his age and prowess allows him to breeze through it at an impressive speed. he's also capable of partial transformation, in which he takes on some parts of his wolf without fulling changing. his frame grows larger, his shoulders broaden, his hands grow larger, and he can grow to surpass 8' tall. his dual set of vampire and wolf fangs drop, his eyes glow yellow and his facial features contort to become an odd mixture of wolf and human. he is a bit slower than his usual vampire speed, and will sometimes move around on all fours.

appearance; klaus' wolf is almost fully black, with some white / lighter fur mixed in. (with inspo from daisy's tri-colored hope) he is two-toned partially because he is a mixture of two species, and partially because of the inherent darkness / stain on his soul he believes he has. the darkness of his wolf's coat reflects the aberration he believes himself to be. a lifetime of his own father referring to him as an abomination has left its mark, and he's reminded of the title every time he shifts, the evil he sees within himself taking on a physical manifestation in the color of his wolf. the white sprinkled in represents the sparks of humanity that he still has, regardless of whether or not he sees them. his eyes are the typical hybrid golden.

WITCH SIDE.

due to being a descendent of a very powerful witch bloodline, klaus is able to practice expression despite being a vampire. in the process of becoming a vampire, his witch side was ripped from him. he thought that side of him was lost forever, creating much of his resentment and animosity he has towards witches. they had a connection to what he had lost, and that bothered him. it wasn't until he discovered the existence of expression that the door to witchcraft was reopened to him. it is a form of magic that is not bound by the laws of nature, and thanks to his connection to such a prominent and massively powerful bloodline, the ability to use expression is available to him.

expression is a form of extremely dark and powerful sorcery that supposedly draws on energy that is so malicious it would demolish the world if it were ever called into existence. unbiased details and history of expression remain unknown; however, according to a witch named nandi, the forces of expression are considered so powerful that many witches discredit it as magic, for it expands beyond the limitations of both ancient and modern witchcraft. some believe expression is neither benevolent nor malevolent, but instead a neutral source of power that is not monitored by nature, and thus can be used however a witch sees fit.

so far, it's been seen that a witch would need to draw power from very dark and / or notable events happening nearby to use expression, such as sacrifices. however, due to klaus' age, strength and being a powerful being like the original hybrid, he's able to draw plenty of power from himself. in addition, due to how often he takes lives, he draws energy from them as well. still, he can definitely overextend himself, causing harm to himself up to and including temporary death.

it is currently unknown what all expression is capable of, though it seems to be near limitless. it is heavily affected by the emotions of the wielder, and this is both a benefit and a detriment to klaus, given how emotional he is already. he can draw a lot of power from his emotions, but his outbursts can easily make the expression go out of control, which can be dangerous to those around him.

he has not been using this ability for long, and is still very much learning how to use and control it. due to the dark nature of expression, it's not as though he can go to other witches and ask to learn how to use it. it's a very much learn as you go process, and due to the danger it poses to others, he practices in secluded or abandoned areas.

his eyes are vibrant blue while using expression, and dark veins very similar to the ones that appear under his eyes when showing his true vampire face appear over much of his body.

WEAKNESSES.

the cure; it would revert him back to a werewolf-untapped witch hybrid.

uninvited; he cannot enter a private home with an invitation.

magic; he is susceptible to the powers of witchcraft, including mystical and dark objects.

desiccation; being completely drained of blood or his heart stopping will cause him to desiccate due to his vampire side, losing most of his strength and any ability to move. this process can be replicated artificially by magic.

dismemberment; while extremely painful, due to the strength of the spell that turned him, klaus would even be able to heal from being dismembered. it would be a long and agonizing process, and would likely need to be aided by his allies. but he would continue to live on, even if he was never put back together - more of a curse than a strength, really.

vervain; vervain prevents him from compelling anyone who takes it and would burn him if he touched it. he will heal very quickly from vervain wounds, however.

wolfsbane; when ingested, wolfsbane causes klaus to become weak and feverish until it leaves his system. again, if skin is exposed to wolfsbane, it will burn him, but he will heal quickly once it is removed.

white oak stake; it would kill him (for real this time).

01.2. forevermore, secondary main verse with salvatoraes; klaus and stefan meet when stefan is still human, and they fall deeply in love. stefan wanted to be with him forever, and so klaus is the one who turns stefan in 1508. they are not only in love but they share a deep sirebond. they spend the next 500+ years together, never separating. klaus will be more mellow in this verse, as he has one of the things he's always craved the most: someone who chooses him first and loves him as deeply as he loves them.

002. canon tvd. follows canon much more strictly up to end of the originals, with only these changes: klaus and elijah don't die, they trap the hollow in dark objects placed in obscure locations around the globe, and my k.laroline changes. if you are unfamiliar with his story, you're welcome to follow this link to his wiki page. wiki link.

003. the books. living in a german village, he turned katherine back in the late 15th century after a maid begged him to help her dying young mistress. nothing more is known about klaus' whereabouts when, one day, in 1491, katherine returned to the german village to find him. the two then spent the next five centuries together. klaus was rather cruel to her, teaching her to become a significantly tougher, stronger vampire, and over time with his influence, she becomes power-hungry and insane, utterly losing her childlike innocence and naiveté. at some point, however, katherine eventually attempts to kill klaus, evidently believing that she has succeeded. he received word of katherine's death in 1992, and headed to fell's church for revenge; and so began his reign of terror on the small town.

klaus is very different in this verse; he is insane, cruel, cares for nothing and no one other than himself. he genuinely makes show klaus look like a well-adjusted saint; do not expect any sort of kindness or goodness from him in this verse. he will not put up with disrespect, and will react violently if challenged. please do not have your muse be snarky with him and not expect him to react ten fold.

004. supernatural. klaus is the alpha vampire, aka the progenitor of the species. it is unknown exactly how old he is, but he mentions he was "the thing in the dark" when humans first built fire, as well has having lived through "continental divide", implying he's hundreds of thousands, if not over a million years old. in general, he's mainly focused on ruling the vampire race, but his goals and what he's doing can vary by the season. very open to plotting, this doesn't have to be his story for this verse!

005. twilight. follows twilight lore. klaus is one of six originals, who were all turned or created by unknown means over five thousand years ago. however, once the volturi began to come to power, aro used his coven of gifted vampires and the help of several powerful witches to lock the originals away. they were too powerful, too cruel, and aro could never have world domination while they walked the earth. they have been entombed ever since; until now. klaus has been stirring, and has finally resurfaced after millennia. he is as vicious as ever, and now deeply vengeful towards the volturi. his personality is essentially the same as is in his main verse, and he's a vampire gifted with weather manipulation.

006. humanity. klaus is human, has always been human, and was born in the late 1980s. i'm not all too sure what exactly i'd do with him in this verse, but it'd be fun to see him as a complete antitheist of his usual self. well, his ego is likely to be very similar, he just won't have the same power to back it up.

007. crime. klaus is essentially a mobster oc; he can be human again in this verse, or some supernatural creature. he's a high up member of the mafia, with the personality and cruelty to match. much of his canon stuff applies here, such as the abuse he suffered due to his stepfather, mikael.

008. apocalyptic. a general verse for when interacting with muses set in apocalypse universes or sources. before whatever apocalyptic event hit, klaus had a family; a wife and a daughter. he lost them both, and is most likely currently surviving on his own. he's probably much more somber than in his regular verses, not finding the humor in really anything like he used to.

009. tomb raider. klaus is a fellow tomb raider, and probably has some level of rapport with lara and the other characters. he could be on trinity's side, or more likely working only for himself. he still has his devil may care attitude.

010. baldur's gate 3. he's most likely a companion, but can also be written with as tav. he's both a high elf sorcerer vampire (or a spawn, whichever is easier / makes more sense) and the dark urge. he can either be found on the nautiloid in the beginning, or in withers' crypt; having freshly killed and fed upon the looters (but hiding that fact). he's very similar to his main verse, but more quiet and twitchy due to his durge status.

011. au tvd based off canon. following mikael's demise in s3 and the mystic falls gang's failure to kill klaus as well, bonnie enacted plan b: she cast a spell that wiped his memories of his life as a vampire, sending his mind back to when he was still human. he finds himself in new orleans, in a world that looks completely different from what he knows and clearly missing a large chunk of time. he's alone until he spots katherine, latching onto her as she is familiar to him even without his memories. the original hybrid remembers nothing of his life as being the monster among monsters, and has essentially returned to who he was when he was human - simply with power and a deep-seated rage he doesn't know what to do with. he won't recognize anyone but his family, having at most an odd feeling of familiarity with anyone he met after becoming a vampire. he will be confused and almost childlike, his usual arrogance nowhere to be found.

BACKSTORY.

ㅤmany millennia ago, there was a couple in love by the names of silas and qetsiyah. in a bid to be together forever, qetsiyah, an extraordinarily powerful witch, created the immortality spell. silas betrayed her by giving the elixir to his true love amara, the two of them becoming the world's first true immortals. centuries later, another powerful witch used a modified version of this spell and the blood of amara's doppelgänger to protect her family from the threat of werewolves. however, the spirits retaliated against her for this, and she had turned her family into the bastardized version of the immortals - original vampires. (the rest of this essentially follows canon, so i won't blather on; but basically, everything happened much further back.)

ㅤdue to his mother forcing his wolf side into dormancy, klaus spent the next six thousand years trying to break the curse suppressing his wolf. this proved to be exceedingly difficult however, as new doppelgängers were an exceedingly rare commodity. even with the fictional sun and moon curse in place, he rarely heard even a whisper of one existing. he finally struck gold upon finding katerina petrova in the 1400s, only for her to ruin his plans. infuriatingly, he had to wait even more centuries for another chance. upon finding elena gilbert, he made certain to cover his bases, and finally broke his curse, becoming the true original hybrid he was always meant to be.

PERSONALITY.

with this ( ... ) immortality came a terrible hunger.

ㅤ and no one felt this hunger more than niklaus.

due to klaus' status of being a hybrid and an original (and possibly also due to his untapped witch potential), he has to drink far more blood than the average vampire to sustain himself - but no matter how much he feeds, he never truly feels satiated. he can easily go through numerous victims in mere moments, as he tends to feed in a frenzy, likely in part to his werewolf side. while self control is likely something he could have perfected by now, he's never seen any reason to; partially due to his lack of true empathy for his victims, and partially because he already believes he's a beast, so why bother? this enduring hunger can be seen mirrored in aspects of his personality as well, such as his perpetual paranoia and his infinite craving for affection. ㅤin your paranoid mind, nobody can be trusted! ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤwhere does it end?ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ

ㅤㅤ ㅤㅤthere is no end!

klaus' boundless paranoia is already well-known in canon, so i wanT talk more about him both craving and fearing affection, along with his deep-seated dread. klaus has committed many great sins, but most of them stem from two main thoughts: ❛❛ he doesn't feel safe, and doesn't know what to do about it. ❜❜ & ❛❛ is that what this is about? you just don't want to be alone? ❜❜ he has been persecuted, abused, beaten and hunted by his own 'father' for his entire life, along with constantly being belittled and insulted by him. while klaus has worked so hard to earn the infamy to become the monster under the bed of other monsters, he himself has been haunted by a monster he deeply fears for a thousand years. and while mikael hunted all of them, his deranged hatred of klaus above the rest was exceedingly clear. and so klaus needed to be stronger, meaner, needed to have an army and even more power for when mikael inevitably returned. but even with all that, he never truly feels safe. and so his endless quest for more power only continues, even after mikael is dead. in his mind, there will always be the next enemy that comes for him, and he needs to be ready.

ㅤㅤ you are klaus mikaelson! you are the most ruthless, ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ wicked beast to ever live!

and yet, he wants nothing more than to experience unconditional love, but it invariably seems to be out of his reach. he's always expected this from his family, no matter how unrealistic that is. he tends to view romantic interests for his siblings as threats (when it comes to rebekah especially), as he knows them being in love will lead to them leaving. in his mind, he should always come first to them, and anything less is an insult and a threat to their family. and though his siblings are often justified in standing against him, these are betrayals he feels deeply every time; he tends to be unwilling to see any fault of his own that lead to these betrayals, instead viewing it as an attack. and while elijah and rebekah have shown to stick by him the most over the centuries, they've both still chosen others over him and betrayed him at different points, and his twisted mind struggles to see anything beyond those slights. so while he desperately seeks love and loyalty, he fears being vulnerable and experiencing the inevitable moment they leave him or choose another over him. his own family (of course starting with his parents) have consistently done this over the course of his life, so how could he expect differently of those not bound to him by blood?

ㅤㅤyou are a cruel, wretched thing, and unworthy of anyone's love.

002. to be clear, klaus is a villain, sometimes an antihero if it suits him. please refrain from assuming a relationship with him, as he won't go along with that. he has a circle of people he cares about, and everyone outside of that is simply chopped liver. unless we've plotted something out at least a little bit, he will not respond well to random people being pushy, threatening, antagonistic, too familiar, etc. klaus has a short temper, so if you have your character approach klaus in a way that could be perceived as any of the above, please be aware you are sending them to interact with an exceptionally volatile character; he is very likely to respond violently, up to and including murder. with this clearly stated in my rules, i will respond to things under the assumption that people are aware of this and accept it. if you are not comfortable with it, that's perfectly fine! that just means we need to figure out something else out / discuss things beforehand.

003. i am mutuals only, and tbh i really follow based on vibes. please give me a couple days to check out your blog if you follow me. things that will prevent me from following: rules or posts that are off-putting (i.e. they’re aggressive, accusatory or rude etc), you post a lot of vagues, uncut and untagged posts, you have no rules or info about your character available (exceptions will be made if we're mutuals on another account). interest trackers lowkey stress me out, so i seldom do them, and i don't interact with "like to stay mutuals" posts. just please know if i follow you, i want to write with you! that being said, i am in not in a hurry. there are no timelines or "we must write within x amount of time to stay mutuals" here. i don't judge people who run their blogs this way, but if you do, we may not gel well as writers.

011. i'll be first to admit that i live to ship and ship to live, so please let me know if you’re interested in shipping with klaus! i would love all sorts of dynamics for him. as for romantic shipping, i'm very open to that as well, chemistry really being the only prerequisite i have. however, it's important to note: klaus is not kind or loving, at least not in a normal way. any romantic ships with him would be complex and toxic, as he is bound to be overly possessive, easily jealous, and obsessive. i will not change his personality to create a soft / fluffy ship. k.lefan is my main ship, but i am open to most others. k.laroline would require heavy plotting / likely a full rewrite as it was very ooc for klaus. ships i am not interested in writing romantically (subject to change): k.layley, klaus x genevieve, klaus x aurora. mutuals are welcome to approach me about a potential ship at any time.

ㅤㅤbut on the other hand, he absolutely doesn't want to believe, for multiple reasons. the first reason being he knows he isn't a good person, and has done enough horrible things to be damned countless times over. facing eternal consequences for his actions in the afterlife isn't exactly an appealing possibility, to put it mildly. it would also mean terrible things happen despite an all-knowing, all-powerful being existing that should be perfectly capable of putting a stop to them. he has a rather nihilistic view on life in general, bolstered by centuries of witnessing atrocities, plagues, devastating wars and countless other things that, to him, shouldn't be able to exist in a world watched over by a god. it's really like ... a bitterness he has at the thought of so much evil existing at the same time as an all-powerful deity that could stop it. ( brings to mind the quote: "god is just a kid on an anthill with a magnifying glass." ) a hypocritical view of course, given how many evil things he himself has done. which also brings up the question of if god is real, why has klaus ( and the rest of his family, really ) been able to do basically whatever he wants without being stopped? he's faced the occasional consequence over the years, but none to the severity he would expect if a higher power is out there somewhere. and then just on the logistics side, he's lived long enough to witness the rise and fall of countless different deities and religions throughout time, so how would he even begin to decide which one was correct / real? to him, it should be provable without a question of a doubt, rather than left up to interpretation.

ㅤㅤand finally, the lines who will take the fall? who of us is stronger? klaus has a pretty flagrant god complex, even if it is at constant war with his intense self-loathing. his ego and heavily sought after place as "the most powerful" make him uncomfortable / annoyed with the idea of an all powerful being looming over his shoulder. feeling like he has control is important to him after having a lifetime of the opposite thanks to his father, and any real semblance of control over his life / destiny would be out the window if some higher power out there was the one actually pulling the strings. his life has been constant cycles of fighting for dominance and being the apex predator, resisting anyone getting the upper hand on him and killing those who try without hesitation. and it's not like he thinks he could actually fight any existing god ( okay well maybe he does think that sometimes kfdsal him and his ridiculous hubris ), it's more just . . . his instinctive response to any perceived threat, even if it's just in a way that questions his power, is to square up and prove just how powerful he truly is. in pretty much any situation, if there is to be a question of who is left standing in the end, he intends for it to be him. there should be no one stronger than him, no perceived enemy left standing as long as he's still breathing. so basically, a representation of his need to be the strongest and his frustration / refusal to accept that he might not be ⸻ even though deep down, he knows that the very fact that he even needs to question whether or not he could win means he isn't always going to be the most powerful. and he hates it.

now, whether he prefers stefan with or without humanity is a bit complex. it's obvious he very much enjoys his rippah, as in his own words, "i was your number one fan." the simplest reason for this is that klaus loves the bloodshed, the hunt, the intensity in which stefan acts on his vampiric desires while without his humanity. a ripper is a vampire with a special talent for spilling blood, something the original enjoys and appreciates. but delving a bit deeper, as twisted as it is, part of him truly believes stefan is better off when he isn't fighting against his bloodlust. he mentions multiple times that stefan's humanity must be so heavy, must be killing him, etc. as someone who indulges so freely in the dark parts of immortality, he doesn't like how stefan needlessly tortures himself for simply living the way vampires are supposed to. and the deepest reason, the one he doesn't want to admit: he knows stefan is too good for him. when stefan is on the wagon, he is empathetic, chivalrous, loyal, kind. he wakes up everyday and fights that darkness within him, trying to do and be better despite it all. klaus knows he only looks all the more monstrous in comparison, and it begs the question of why would stefan be with him when klaus is the biggest monster of them all? but when stef's off the wagon, their personalities, hungers and sins are essentially on the same level. klaus feels far more comfortable at his side, doesn't feel like he is being judged and found inadequate compared to stefan's light. stefan is also far more likely to allow klaus at his side while sans humanity, another major benefit for the hybrid. however . . .
