the mikaelson name. "Klaus hates Mikael, and found out he wasnt even his son. How come Klaus continued to go by Mikaelson even knowing he wasnt mikaels son?"
ㅤㅤa couple reasons; firstly, simple pettiness. klaus is well aware of how much mikael hates him, and how likely it is that if mikael couldn't have his death, he would at least like klaus removed from the family / any possible tie klaus has to them to be unacknowledged. therefore, klaus keeps the name to spite him. secondly, it's the name his siblings all have. family is everything to him ( despite the twisted ways he shows it ), so he would never try to sever that connection to them. and lastly, it would only further other him from his siblings. he is already their only half brother, is the only one born of an affair of their mother's, and is the only half wolf. dropping the last name they share would simply make it all the more obvious that he doesn't fit into his own family, would only further his paranoia that they don't see him as a true sibling and that they don't truly love him. he already fears their blood bond is the only thing that inspires any sort of loyalty to him, so to make it more obvious that they share just half the strength of that bond with him than they do with each other would simply exacerbate that fear. carrying the mikaelson name comes with a heavy burden, but it also comes with the promise of always and forever, a crutch he has relied on from the very beginning of their new eternity. he can't afford to let go of that.
katerina and the werewolf venom cure. "SO. S2. Where Klaus sends Katherine with the cure for the werewolf bite to Damon. By then he absolutely knew she wasn't compellable. Did he think she would actually give it to Damon? Why? And if not, was that what he was counting on to give Stefan more of a reason to leave? MOTIVATIONS GIVE THEM TO ME."
ㅤㅤyes, he absolutely thought that she would take it to him. he may not have cared about convincing stefan in the moment that she would deliver the cure and was playing a bit of a game, only shrugging carelessly when stefan said ❛ she'll never take it to him. ❜ admittedly, he was a bit moody / bitter, on an emotional rollercoaster after seeing stefan again, breaking the curse and everything that went with that, elijah almost killing him, etc. it was a lot, and he wasn't happy, despite the successes, so he was being a bit of a bitch. still, he knew she would go save damon, despite being well aware she was on vervain. that is why when stefan received a text, the first thing klaus said was ❛ did katerina make it in time? ❜ without even knowing the message was from elena. they have been enemies for over five centuries, but he recognizes that they are startlingly similar, including when it comes to being attached to certain people. they both wear a mask of not giving a shit about anything because that is what is required for their lives, but he knows what lurks beneath hers, if only because he saw it before she covered it up. they share a deep intensity in their capacity for emotions and caring for someone, and their ability to carry that flame for a very long time. he knew she wouldn't let damon die if she could help it, even if only because he's stefan's brother. he had no need to give stefan more reason to leave, as they'd already made a deal and that was binding to him. though if anything, he was rather certain damon's death would give stefan reason not to leave with him. but again, he had no concern that damon would succumb to the bite, because he was completely confident that katherine would take him the cure.
our end is always self made. "Random Headcanon Question: what does our end is always self made mean to Klaus?"
ㅤㅤit doesn't mean anything to him but denial, as he refuses to admit / acknowledge that much of the pain and problems in his life were caused by his own actions. ( one of the main reasons i got so frustrated / annoyed watching to, bc he just kept repeating the same cycles of self destruction ). as cami put it, ❛ you are the architect of your own unhappiness. ❜ even when he takes steps towards his goals, he's constantly standing in his own way by lashing out, making enemies, putting himself at odds with his family - even though he admitted in the end that he likely only lasted as long as he did because of his siblings. he continued cycles of abuse and self sabotage rather than putting a stop to them for most of his life, and only started making any sort of progress towards breaking free of his shitty habits after hope was born, aka the last, like, 15 years of his life. if he hadn't had the support of his family, he would've met his end and been put in his in grave in retaliation for his own actions and cruelty; scheming and making enemies for a thousand years pretty much guarantees that.
ㅤㅤi've wondered about this myself, and haven't made it beyond a weak maybe. we all already know klaus is an exceptionally jealous and possessive person, so i think whether he could handle it or not would vary greatly depending on the dynamic. i see one of three necessary conditions needing to be met, or some combination of the three:
he would have to be equally obsessed with both of them and literally be like "i can't choose just one of you, i have to have you both." this option doesn't seem super likely to me, considering how fixated he gets on one person at a time. like ... he locks on to his chosen person, and if he can actually have and keep them, i don't see his eyes wandering enough to develop romantic interest in another. for example, he carried a flame for caroline for years after they parted, having only moved on when it was clear he wouldn't be able to be with her. but even after he had fallen for cami and lost her, he was still very clearly into caroline when they reunited. if he and caroline had gotten and stayed together, i highly doubt he ever would've developed romantic interest in cami. not saying it would've been impossible, just super unlikely.
the other two would need to have no romantic interest in each other whatsoever, only be into him. a very tenuous thing to put faith in to him, because what's to truly stop them from falling for each other? their word? that would be highly risky in his eyes, and he would probably always expect that to inevitably change, no matter how hard they tried to assure him otherwise.
if the second option isn't possible, they would have to be more into him than each other. he already has this near pathological fear of abandonment and being second best; having to watch two people he's in love with clearly prefer each other over him would be guaranteed to drive him mad. and again, no foolproof way to prevent that ⸻ he would be worried about it constantly.

ships. i just realized we really never got to see klaus in a long-standing romantic ship, and therefore didn't get to see how the passage of time would change their dynamic / klaus' disposition. the first one we're shown is tatia, sort of. elijah says "none loved her more than niklaus", but we don't really see much of them and she ended up choosing elijah over klaus, cutting any relationship between them short and breaking his heart. then comes aurora, but again, it's cut short when she brutally breaks up with him ( the truth of that is of course revealed eventually, but numerous centuries too late ), breaking his heart again and majorly impacting his self worth. then we're shown his interest in caroline and their game of will they won't they ( which i've explained doesn't make much sense to me), but a sustained romantic relationship never comes from it.
ㅤㅤhis romantic involvement with hayley was really as simple a one night stand, but tbh, i preferred that for the two of them and really ended up loving what their dynamic grew into. genevieve is hardly worth mentioning here, as while they of course had a physical relationship, i saw klaus' thing with her to be strictly strategic rather than having true romantic interest in her. now comes the crème de la crème of a romantic relationship perhaps making klaus a bit better: cami. but unfortunately, not only did it start slowly ( def not inherently a bad thing, but they had so little time together in total it was quite detrimental here ), but once again, it was cut short before it could truly flourish. cami becoming a vampire basically halted the growth of their relationship ( understandably so ), and while they ended up taking great strides to repair and further their bond, it was literally during cami's last days and then she died - and that was that. she was his last romantic relationship before he died, and the closest thing to a healthy, sustained ship he was shown to have; and considering healthy wouldn't really be a great way to describe their rocky, power imbalanced relationship, that's saying a lot.
ㅤㅤso once again, i'm going to take liberties with something that wasn't shown in canon. in my mind, i like to think that upon actually officially taking someone on as his s/o, the beginning of their relationship would have that intensity his canon ones are shown to have. he would likely start out as highly possessive, easily jealous, his affections and passion turned up to 100 ( bc he knows no other way to be tbh ), and he would just overall be a lot. but as time passed and his s/o remained both alive and with him rather than choosing someone else, i believe he would mellow out quite a bit. not really in the passion department, because he has exceptionally strong emotions in general, but definitely when it comes to his more negative expectations. he would start to relax, be more confident in the relationship ( namely that they aren't going to leave him / choose another over him ) and probably soften quite a bit. his toxic behaviors are of course highly unlikely to ever fully disappear, but i do think he'd become comfortable being more gentle and vulnerable with his s/o. he would also eternally be touchy about them potentially dying, especially given his own unique level of immortality, so he'd probably never get less overbearing when it comes to them being in danger and doing what he can to prevent that very thing. but i definitely think he would soften in other areas, perhaps even becoming almost sweet, and more outright romantic.
despite how he probably seems, klaus doesn't typically have that high of a sex drive. more often than not, sex is simply something he uses to manipulate people and charm them into doing what he wants. as such, while he's a very attentive lover and always makes sure to leave the person satisfied, he himself is detached from the act and mentally far away. there could be any number of reasons for this, but one of the biggest ones is his paranoia; last thing he needs is an enemy to attack him when he literally has his pants down. it's a vulnerable situation to put himself in, so he has to do so strategically and with alertness.
however, when he's with someone he truly likes, his drive tends to go through the roof. he struggles to keep his hands to himself, and wants them to constantly be touching him, too. he's the type that can go a round at least once a day, if not more than once. he likes to monopolize their time, and getting them into bed is an excellent way to do that.
he tends to like it rough, specifically with things such as biting / marking. he likes them to have bruises everywhere, be walking funny the next day ( or two ), make it impossible for them to think of anyone but him.
he is, of course, very much a top. he wants control in all things, and sex is no different. it would take a hell of a lot for him to consider handing the reigns over to someone else, and it would definitely have to be with someone he's been with for a long time and that he trusts fully. sometimes he thinks he'd like to let someone else be in charge once in a while, allow himself to just sit back and be taken care of, but quite frankly, the idea of that scares him. his instinct is to believe they would take advantage of the situation and do something to harm him.
klaus loves the chase, both the literal and the metaphorical kinds. is this because he's animalistic due to being a hybrid, or is it just his personality? who knows lmao, it just is. now i will specify to say i don't mean the chase as in going after someone who doesn't want him or whatever; he requires interest that matches his before he'll pursue someone. when i say the chase, i mean like an agreed upon game between him and his partner; something that gets the adrenaline going and blood pumping. could be chasing them around nola, a little will they won't they back and forth, or literally a chase through the damn woods lmao. just makes it a bit more fun when he catches them and they're breathing hard and their heart is racing <3
along the same vein, he loves reducing his partner to a whimpering mess. overstimulation tends to be the name of the game, and he will just keep going until there are tears involved ( or a safe word is used ). he always prioritizes his partner's pleasure over his own, and half the fun for him is figuring out what makes them tick and using that knowledge to make them come unglued. this applies doubly to people who are kinda standoffish / trying to play it cool with him; he views that as a game / challenge, which makes the payoff of them falling apart under him all the more sweet.
he tends to be rather quiet and reserved during the whole act, reigning in his voice and facial expressions. this goes back to him wanting control and to avoid vulnerability, though he might ease up on this if he's with a partner he trusts. contrarily, he heavily prefers a vocal and responsive lover, wants it to be obvious just how much he's pleasing them. wants everyone in the building to know exactly how much he's affecting them <33
relationship with god(s). "i'm so interested in the ethel cain quote in your pinned and how it ties in with klaus. what is klaus' relationship with god? and being a viking and all, didn't he used to worship gods?"
ㅤㅤi'm gonna try to explain this in a way that makes sense, but i apologize in advance if it doesn't - this is a multi layered answer and i suck at explaining things dfskaj. i don't remember if it was canonically stated that the mikaelsons believed in god(s) ( me not remembering something in canon? shocker of the century lmao ), but given it was basically a perquisite for people at the time and esther was a witch, it's safe to say they did. in present day however, his thoughts on the subject are about as contradictory as they are for basically everything else. on the one hand, i think a part of him wants to believe - wants to believe there's a higher power out there that created everything, is watching over everyone and that there's something more, something good, after death. that there's something more out there than just want happens on this hunk of rock floating out in space and maybe there's some deeper meaning to existence. to me, the i'm scared he was gone all along applies to klaus in the existential fear of "what if this is all there is? what if no one is watching over us at all, and we're just here randomly and by chance?" because if there is no greater plan, then there's no larger meaning to suffering. it just ... happens, rather than happening for a reason ( aka one of klaus' ways of justifying his own actions ).
ㅤㅤbut on the other hand, he absolutely doesn't want to believe, for multiple reasons. the first reason being he knows he isn't a good person, and has done enough horrible things to be damned countless times over. facing eternal consequences for his actions in the afterlife isn't exactly an appealing possibility, to put it mildly. it would also mean terrible things happen despite an all-knowing, all-powerful being existing that should be perfectly capable of putting a stop to them. he has a rather nihilistic view on life in general, bolstered by centuries of witnessing atrocities, plagues, devastating wars and countless other things that, to him, shouldn't be able to exist in a world watched over by a god. it's really like ... a bitterness he has at the thought of so much evil existing at the same time as an all-powerful deity that could stop it. ( brings to mind the quote: "god is just a kid on an anthill with a magnifying glass." ) a hypocritical view of course, given how many evil things he himself has done. which also brings up the question of if god is real, why has klaus ( and the rest of his family, really ) been able to do basically whatever he wants without being stopped? he's faced the occasional consequence over the years, but none to the severity he would expect if a higher power is out there somewhere. and then just on the logistics side, he's lived long enough to witness the rise and fall of countless different deities and religions throughout time, so how would he even begin to decide which one was correct / real? to him, it should be provable without a question of a doubt, rather than left up to interpretation.
ㅤㅤand finally, the lines who will take the fall? who of us is stronger? klaus has a pretty flagrant god complex, even if it is at constant war with his intense self-loathing. his ego and heavily sought after place as "the most powerful" make him uncomfortable / annoyed with the idea of an all powerful being looming over his shoulder. feeling like he has control is important to him after having a lifetime of the opposite thanks to his father, and any real semblance of control over his life / destiny would be out the window if some higher power out there was the one actually pulling the strings. his life has been constant cycles of fighting for dominance and being the apex predator, resisting anyone getting the upper hand on him and killing those who try without hesitation. and it's not like he thinks he could actually fight any existing god ( okay well maybe he does think that sometimes kfdsal him and his ridiculous hubris ), it's more just . . . his instinctive response to any perceived threat, even if it's just in a way that questions his power, is to square up and prove just how powerful he truly is. in pretty much any situation, if there is to be a question of who is left standing in the end, he intends for it to be him. there should be no one stronger than him, no perceived enemy left standing as long as he's still breathing. so basically, a representation of his need to be the strongest and his frustration / refusal to accept that he might not be ⸻ even though deep down, he knows that the very fact that he even needs to question whether or not he could win means he isn't always going to be the most powerful. and he hates it.
tl;dr: it's complicated, and my attempt at an explanation probably didn't help much lmao. also i obviously heavily focused on the c.hristian version of god; and that's mainly because that's what i was raised with so that's what i'm best versed with and therefore most comfortable discussing. i apologize if that's not what you were interested in hearing about, nonnie!
ㅤㅤklaus is very wary of touch, regardless of who it's from or the intentions behind it. more often than not, any sort of contact he receives is threatening or violent in some way, or has an ulterior motive behind it. the result of that is that he is resistant to it even if the touch comes from his siblings, his relationship with them so shaky and unsure. while he can become more comfortable with physical affection as he gets to know people and begins the slow process of trusting them, expecting violence from any potential touch is ingrained in him down to his bones, and he doesn't know how to change that. this tension in him is likely noticeable to anyone who is allowed close enough to him, the way he almost flinches when someone reaches out. despite this, he craves affection in all its forms, physical included. when he becomes comfortable in a romantic relationship, he's very touchy-feely, becoming borderline clingy. in platonic relationships where he trusts the other person, he is more open to hugs and random touches. it takes a while for him to get to this point however, and usually requires some kind of notable event that makes it clear he can trust them.
klaus is insatiable; thanks to having nearly infinite stamina, he could quite literally go all day if he wanted. he typically only stops or takes a break if his partner needs to . . . and also because ig he has actual things to be doing, unfortunately.
he is very dedicated to his partner's pleasure, and is basically a service top (believe it or not). if he's with a committed partner, he's this way because he genuinely enjoys pleasuring them and watching them get off (especially at his hands) is satisfying to him - sometimes even more than the act itself. if he's with a hookup, it's more an ego thing - to him, it's shameful for a man to leave a sexual encounter without thoroughly pleasuring their partner and he would find it embarrassing if they didn't finish at least a couple times.
he's an obsessive eater, and far prefers giving head to receiving it. again, it's exceptionally satisfying to him to watch his partner come undone under him, and he's the type to hold their hips down and keep going until they're nearly crying from overstimulation. an any time, any place situation for him; all his partner has to do is ask him to and he'll be telling them to pull down their pants and he'll dive in.
you'll probably gasp with shock at this one, but he's almost exclusively dominant. his obsessive need for control makes him unwilling to submit 99% of the time, and it's very difficult to find someone who'll be that 1% exception. being dominant and having another submit to him is a big part of being intimate to him, but the inverse (aka him giving up control and submitting) could be just as impactful with the right person.
another obvious one, but he's a constant biter and loves leaving marks everywhere. the more excited he gets, the more mouthy he gets, and he will bite bite bite! this is reciprocal, as he enjoys being marked by his partner, even if the bites heal quickly.
he enjoys seeing his s/o in lingerie, and more specifically, things he purchased and chose for them. this also includes certain jewelry, such as chokers or rings (or piercings, if they're brave enough and down for that), anything that marks them as his. he likes picking out what lingerie they wear, when they wear it, having them take pieces of it off in public to give to him, etc. he also gains satisfaction from dressing them in general, even outside of lingerie.
i feel like this is already too long, so i'll speed run other k.inks: bloodsharing, dom/sub dynamics, primal themes (chasing, claiming, etc), choking, general manhandling, c.ockwarming, watching his partner, giving / receiving praise, worshipping / being worshipped, etc.

living magnum opus. while klaus has hatred and resentment for katerina, above all, he views her as his living magnum opus. she is a breathing representation of the reputation he has so purposefully cultivated over the years, of the fearsome and unforgettable creature he's become. he's no longer that afraid, weak boy he once was, and katerina is like a walking billboard spreading this message. in addition, one of his biggest fears is being forgotten, and his influence over her and how he's shaped her into what she is today will ensure he can never be forgotten ⸻ for even if someone manages to kill her, her legend is unlikely to die, and his own will be right behind hers; that string of fate that ties them together is too strong to ever be cut or ignored. she is perhaps his greatest creation, and he has a twisted love for her as much as he has hatred. he will never be free of her and she will never be free of him, no matter how far she runs.
compelling stefan. "how did klaus feel when he was compelling stefan to turn off his humanity? also, does he prefer stef one way or the other? what’s the tea?!"
we all know klaus is prone to impulsive behaviors, namely when his emotions get the best of him, and he almost always comes to regret the action he took during an outburst. compelling stefan in this instance is a perfect example of this particular pattern of behavior. he had been simmering with jealousy ever since they reunited and he realized just how much stefan loved elena, but seeing how far he would go to avoid hurting her, despite the hybrid's compulsion, sent him over the edge. he didn't necessarily want nh!stefan, he wanted back the stefan that didn't love elena, the one that had wanted to be by his side. it's clear he realizes the magnitude of this action and that he shouldn't have done this the moment after he does it, especially considering stefan had pleaded with him a mere thirty minutes ago not to compel him. even then, he said "i didn't want to. all i wanted was your allegiance, now i'm going to have to take it." but did it anyway ( i could go on and on about how klaus doesn't truly think himself worthy of earning loyalty so he forces it, but that's a topic for another time ) because stefan said he didn't care about elena only to prove the exact opposite moments later. both times, klaus feels jealousy that stefan is choosing another over him and he envies s.telena's bond, leading him to impulsive actions that he knows deep down won't make anyone happy, including him. and while the next shot we see of him he looks pleased and says "i fixed him", this is only after he has a moment to recover and bury his true reaction under his usual blustering. he knows he fucked up ( and probably felt that chill we all do when we know we messed up ), but all he could do was double down. this entire scene is a textbook example of his impulsiveness: things aren't going his way, one of his chosen people chooses another over him, his emotions bubble over and he has an explosive outburst, he does something stupid, his emotions settle enough for him to realize wtf he just did, and he has a moment of self-awareness before he does something to make the situation worse rather than fix it - because he just can't help it, can he?
now, whether he prefers stefan with or without humanity is a bit complex. it's obvious he very much enjoys his rippah, as in his own words, "i was your number one fan." the simplest reason for this is that klaus loves the bloodshed, the hunt, the intensity in which stefan acts on his vampiric desires while without his humanity. a ripper is a vampire with a special talent for spilling blood, something the original enjoys and appreciates. but delving a bit deeper, as twisted as it is, part of him truly believes stefan is better off when he isn't fighting against his bloodlust. he mentions multiple times that stefan's humanity must be so heavy, must be killing him, etc. as someone who indulges so freely in the dark parts of immortality, he doesn't like how stefan needlessly tortures himself for simply living the way vampires are supposed to. and the deepest reason, the one he doesn't want to admit: he knows stefan is too good for him. when stefan is on the wagon, he is empathetic, chivalrous, loyal, kind. he wakes up everyday and fights that darkness within him, trying to do and be better despite it all. klaus knows he only looks all the more monstrous in comparison, and it begs the question of why would stefan be with him when klaus is the biggest monster of them all? but when stef's off the wagon, their personalities, hungers and sins are essentially on the same level. klaus feels far more comfortable at his side, doesn't feel like he is being judged and found inadequate compared to stefan's light. stefan is also far more likely to allow klaus at his side while sans humanity, another major benefit for the hybrid. however . . .
❛ those that persevere, despite all they've been through, those who still believe there is good in the world. as dark things, we often find we need that light the most. ❜
despite what he and many others would believe, he doesn't truly prefer ripper stefan. yes, there are of course aspects that he thoroughly enjoys, benefits for him that only apply when stefan has his humanity off. but the deepest parts of him crave the light that counteracts his own darkness, the kindness and gentleness that is so difficult for him to summon on his own. much like a moth to flame, klaus is shown to be unable to resist being drawn in by people who have a bright light inside them, even when he knows he is likely to be burned by them in some way. this holds true when applied to stefan, especially when they are in the lovers phase of their relationship - klaus is on the receiving end of stef's support and affection, something he consumes like a man starved. though this is a double-edged sword when they are at odds, as klaus is then forced to watch from the sidelines as the softness in stefan given to everyone but him, something he can hardly stand. but just as one part of him believes stefan is needlessly torturing himself by trying to be a ~good~ vampire, another part believes that is truly what stefan wants. that unlike him, he isn't a shameless monster that kills without thinking twice about it. the original can't help but be partially enthralled by that, by the pure strength of will and just . . . goodness in stefan that it takes for him to be so dedicated to being better than the ripper part of him. to him, there is beauty to be found in stefan's strive to be good, even if it doesn't make sense to him. in the end, klaus doesn't really prefer him either way ⸻ he simply loves him, period. klaus will love him at his very best and at his very worst, without judging him no matter how far he falls.
k.laroline. klaus lost romantic interest in caroline rather early on. i used to be a hardcore k.laroline shipper, but the more i've thought about it, the less it makes sense? ( from both perspectives tbh but im of course focusing on klaus ). now i won't say klaus doesn't enjoy a good chase when pursuing a potential partner, but there's definitely a limit to that; stemming from a mix of his ego, paranoia, and trust issues. and after numerous times of her being used as "klaus bait" and using his interest / affection for her as a way to lower his guard so the mf crew could attack him and / or his family, i don't see him truly forgiving that, considering his ability to hold grudges and how personally he takes shit like that. while they had some positive interactions for sure, a large portion of them were her being hostile or faking nice for her friends to enact a plan. now i adore caroline, and she had every right and reason to make moves against him, but klaus would never see it that way. any trust he may have had in her would've been obliterated, and his romantic feelings would've died too. maybe some day, after many years have gone by and wounds of the past had time to heal, they could've had something. but from what we're shown in canon ( excluding anything that might've happened in legacies bc i've never seen it fdklas ), i don't see how it's plausible it could've happened from klaus' pov. so yeah, anyway, he definitely doesn't dislike her and i certainly see friendship being plausible for them, but he did move on from his romantic feelings for her. however!! this is not me saying i hate k.laroline or won't write it at all - i definitely would with proper plotting. this is just to say for my canon, klaus stopped pursuing her in a romantic way long before they slept together, which i don't count as canon for my klaus either.
in love. sometimes i think about how i don't think i've ever posted a shipping call here, and then i remember why; klaus does nothing half-assed - he becomes obsessive, possessive, entirely consumed by the one he falls for. and if they happen reciprocate his feelings, these qualities only increase tenfold. he's covetous, easily jealous and a single word from them can sway him towards or away from almost any decision. plus, he not only wants to be the center of their world, he wants their entire world to start and end with him, the first and last thing they think of every day - they come to him for any and all needs, never feel safe or comforted unless with him. would lock them away if he could, so only he could have their company and love and so he could be the only one who gets to see them. wants to cut away the memories of all others until he is the only one they remember, the only one they reach for. he simply cannot settle for any less, and y'all's muses do not deserve to deal with all that mess 😭
devotion. also, to add to my last headcanon; once one has proven themselves worthy (admittedly, a rather arbitrary requirement in his mind), there is no foe klaus is unwilling to face for those he loves. no matter how powerful the threat, no matter how many times he is beaten down, he will rise again, and again, and again to protect his family, no matter how many times it takes to vanquish the enemy. as long as there is breath in his body, he will never stop working to eradicate any and all threats to his loved ones. he is endlessly devoted, and willing to do any sort of unspeakable things to protect and / avenge his circle.

the most powerful. "do you believe that Klaus would have ever attempted to turn any of his siblings to hybrids if given the chance?"
ㅤㅤthat seems highly unlikely to me - i think his obsession with being the most powerful would prevent him from helping make anyone as strong or stronger than him. we all know he has deep trust issues, and that extends to his siblings. he of course loves them ( in his own twisted way 😭 ), but they're already originals, which is about as indestructible as you can get - he wouldn't see any reason they'd need to be hybrids. not to mention, i think he feels oddly ... possessive of his original hybrid status? after all he suffered due to being ' other ' / different from him siblings, i imagine he'd view his ability to be a hybrid as a right solely earned by him, not any of his siblings. they weren't punished for being half wolf like he was, so why should they get to reap the benefits of becoming one? and unfortunately, knowing him, even if he discovered there was a way to do that, he would likely be keeping that information to himself and hoping no one else found out.
ㅤㅤㅤwith this ( ... ) immortality came a terrible hunger. and no one felt this hunger more than niklaus.
due to klaus' status of being a hybrid and an original (and possibly also due to his untapped witch potential), he has to drink far more blood than the average vampire to sustain himself - but no matter how much he feeds, he never truly feels satiated. he can easily go through numerous victims in mere moments, as he tends to feed in a frenzy, likely in part to his werewolf side. while self control is likely something he could have perfected by now, he's never seen any reason to; partially due to his lack of true empathy for his victims, and partially because he already believes he's a beast, so why bother? this enduring hunger can be seen mirrored in aspects of his personality as well, such as his perpetual paranoia and his infinite craving for affection.
ㅤㅤin your paranoid mind, nobody can be trusted! where does it end? ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤthere is no end!
klaus' boundless paranoia is already well-known in canon, so i wanna talk more about him both craving and fearing affection, along with his deep-seated dread. klaus has committed many great sins, but most of them stem from two main thoughts: ❛❛ he doesn't feel safe, and doesn't know what to do about it.❜❜& ❛❛ is that what this is about? you just don't want to be alone? ❜❜ he has been persecuted, abused, beaten and hunted by his own 'father' for his entire life, along with constantly being belittled and insulted by him. while klaus has worked so hard to earn the infamy to become the monster under the bed of other monsters, he himself has been haunted by a monster he deeply fears for a thousand years. and while mikael hunted all of them, his deranged hatred of klaus above the rest was exceedingly clear. and so klaus needed to be stronger, meaner, needed to have an army and even more power for when mikael inevitably returned. but even with all that, he never truly feels safe. and so his endless quest for more power only continues, even after mikael is dead. in his mind, there will always be the next enemy that comes for him, and he needs to be ready.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤyou are klaus mikaelson! you are the most ruthless, ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤwicked beast who ever lived!
and yet, he wants nothing more than to experience unconditional love, but it invariably seems to be out of his reach. he's always expected this from his family, no matter how unrealistic that is. he tends to view romantic interests for his siblings as threats (when it comes to rebekah especially), as he knows them being in love will lead to them leaving. in his mind, he should always come first to them, and anything less is an insult and a threat to their family. and though his siblings are often justified in standing against him, these are betrayals he feels deeply every time; he tends to be unwilling to see any fault of his own that lead to these betrayals, instead viewing it as an attack. and while elijah and rebekah have shown to stick by him the most over the centuries, they've both still chosen others over him and betrayed him at different points, and his twisted mind struggles to see anything beyond those slights. so while he desperately seeks love and loyalty, he fears being vulnerable and experiencing the inevitable moment they leave him or choose another over him. his own family (of course starting with his parents) have consistently done this over the course of his life, so how could he expect differently of those not bound to him by blood?
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤyou are a cruel, wretched thing, and unworthy of anyone's love.
many say klaus feels nothing at all, including himself - but in reality, he feels far too much and too strongly. he deeply loves his siblings, but doesn't believe they love him the same (their father didn't, so how could anyone else?), fears them abandoning him, and so he daggers them. he doesn't believe he can inspire or earn the loyalty he covets, so he forces it. he is one of the powerful creatures who ever lived, and yet he's never powerful enough to assuage the fear daddy dearest instilled in him - the fear of mikael himself, the fear of no one ever truly loving him, the fear of being alone for all time. he's never loved enough to make himself feel worthy of it; having hope was the closest he ever got, but even then, the fear of becoming his father and tainting her with the evil he held within himself shadowed his relationship with her. the beast within him forces him to feed like he's starved, but he can never feed enough to feel fully satiated. klaus has a gaping maw of hunger deep within him that affects every part of him, and he doesn't know how he'll ever fill it - or if he even can.
